RULES AND REGULATIONS
ENTRY FEE – 10 % OF FIRST PREMIUM
1. Competition is limited to all students in grades K-12. Students will not enter Adult Arts competition.
2. Each student over 6 years of age will be issued a one-day pass, which will enable him to reclaim his exhibits on the
last day. If he or she desires to become a member of the Chemung County Agricultural Society, a membership
ticket may be purchased for $10 which qualifies him as a member. Children 6 years and under are admitted FREE
every day.
3. An exhibitor may enter only ONE ARTICLE in a class.
4. All work must be original work of the student exhibiting. No commercially manufactured article may be considered for a premium (i.e. kits, number paintings, models, etc.)
5. There will be a special Merit Award from the County Fair of $10 for each Section at the discretion of the judges.
6. Your grade classification will be the grade you were in as of June of the current year.
7. A child may enter up to two items of something he has done himself as a painting, cut or formed paper, hand made
object, etc.

Elimination will be made on the basis or appearance; final selection on quality and taste except canned goods. All
preserved food should be exhibited in standard containers and must have been canned within the year. Standard
containers refer to COMMERCIAL CLEAN GLASS JARS. The size of the jar to be used is specified at the start of
each selection.
STANDARDS FOR CANNED FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
• COLOR – As nearly as possible to that of the natural fruit or vegetable.
• CLEARNESS – Syrup or liquid clear and free from seeds and bubbles.
• PACK – Arrangement with reference to symmetry and best use of space. As large a proportion of solids to liquid
as possible. Uniformity of shape and size.
• CONTAINERS – ONLY metal screw band two-piece tops may be used. All foods not in standard jars or not
sealed with self-sealing lids will be disqualified by the judge.
• TEXTURE – Uniformity ripened products firm enough to hold shape. No defective or overripe fruits or vegetables. Only young and tender vegetables should be canned. Jars will not be opened.

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS
1. No helper’s passes will be issued in this Department.
2. An exhibitor may enter only ONE ARTICLE IN A CLASS. No article may be entered in more than one class.
3. Even though there may be numerous articles entered in a class, if only one piece is worthy, premium is to be
awarded at the discretion of the judge.
4. FOR AMETEURS ONLY: Those who teach as a profession or receive a percentage of income for their work
will be considered professional and cannot exhibit, unless professional class is listed.
5. All reasonable care will be given in the protection of the exhibits but the Fair will not be responsible for any loss,
which might occur.
6. Under Needlework, no article may be considered for premium which was manufactured commercially (all to be
hand made or machine made as specified).
Needlework should be items done in the past year and not previously exhibited as the Fair.
Selection will be made on the basis of neatness of appearance, simplicity in pattern, usefulness and lack of unnecessary
decoration. Sale of any exhibit article will not be allowed.

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS
1. Novice Spinning – Spinner must have learned to spin during the past year. The spinner will supply a tied, 2 oz.
Skein of two-ply yarn. The spinner will state the device used to spin it. A) on the drop spindle or B) on the
wheel.
2. “Spindlefulls” – Spinner will provide a spindle full of singles spun year on any fiber. The yarn is to be spun and
or displayed on a spindle that is suitable to both the fiber and the diameter of the yarn. This includes drop spindle
and wheel bobbin.
3. Handspun Skein – Only one entry per class per entrant. Each skein must have been spun by entrant. Work must
have been completed during the past year, and not previously entered at the Chemung County Fair. Each skein
entry will consist of a 2 oz. minimum handspun natural fiber. Skeins should have a circumference of 1 ½ to 2
yds. And be neatly wound and tied securely in at least three places. Each skein must have at least a 3” X 3” knitted, crocheted or woven swatch attached. Fiber source named on a tag.
