Introduction
As we head into another frantic run-up to Christmas, traditionally the busiest
time of year for the book industry, we can reflect on an amazing year for
Sherlock Holmes fans.
Many have commented that there has never been a better time to be a Holmes
fan with a multitude of franchises doing very well. The first two Holmes
movies from Guy Ritchie have been entertaining blockbusters, BBC Sherlock
is on the verge of a much awaited Series 3 and the first series of Elementary
has been big enough of a hit for the second series to come hot on its heels.
Worth remembering that Sherlock has but three episodes per outing – though
you could argue they are virtually movies in their own right – and Elementary
has more than twenty episodes. Add the Russian series, a host of live plays, a
brilliant audio adaptation from Big Finish and there is much for our eyes and
ears to consume.
So on to the books. It’s been another record breaking year for MX on all
fronts – in terms of numbers of titles, sales, stories, formats and translations.
Traditional fiction, and in particular the short story collections continue to be
the most popular in terms of sales and David Marcum’s ‘The Papers of
Sherlock Holmes Volume One’ has had quite wonderful reviews. Volume Two
comes out at the end of September, as does the audio adaptation of both
volumes at a very special event which also marks a new partnership with the
Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes Hotel on Baker Street. On the 26th September a
host of Holmes author join David who is travelling over from the USA to
launch the new book, with a few copies of his debut novel A Quantity of Debt
on hand too. The novel comes out in November and does do in hardback - we
keep getting asked for hardbacks so we are giving it a go. We hope to hold
free events monthly at the Park Plaza and will be celebrating the first one by
giving away $500 of free books in goody bags to the first twenty fans that
reserve seats.
In June we launched Benedict CumberbatchIn Transition a performance
biography which has been a big hit – and in August the Japanese edition was
released. Chinese rights have also been sold and there is interest from Korea
8
too. We’re doing our own Dutch and Polish translations thanks to the kind
translators that worked originally on the Sherlock’s Home project.
Talking of ‘Save Undershaw’ the fight continues to save Conan Doyle’s
former home and this month we’re working with Carrie Carlson to publish a
homage to the thousands of fans that have been involved in the campaign.
‘Two, to one Be’ is the inspirational title of this special book. Kickstarter fans
with their donations will decide how many translations we’ll be able to do.
We like to push the boundaries and this year is no exception. Sleight of Fate is
a great little novella where a murderer tests his victim with a deadly quiz – but
perhaps the most controversial book of the year is Sherlock Holmes and The
Black Widower where Dr.Watson is accused of being a serial killer.
What will 2014 bring? Well, we hope more licensing into other languages.
Our partners in Italy, China, Japan and Russia report great sales of our titles
and we are actively seeking publishers to work with for other languages and
countries. We have a host of Holmes expert translators in Spanish, French,
German, Polish, Italian, Dutch and Chinese on hand. More audio books with
AudioGo on the horizon to add to the excellent half a dozen we have live
already too.
I’m particularly looking forward to the sequel to one of my favourites – The
Secret Journal of Dr Watson by Phil Growick. The Revenge of Sherlock
Holmes looks like it will be a real classic in May. We have several more
collections coming from the prolific Mike Hogan and more in the McCabe
and Cody series from Dan Andriacco. If you haven’t tried his books yet do
yourself a favour and start with No Police Like Holmes – one of the funniest
and best written modern takes on Holmes out there.
Here’s to a cracking Holmes filled autumn and winter season.

Types of new Sherlock Holmes Fiction
You can segment Sherlock Holmes books in a number of ways. The simplest
is non-fiction and fiction. The latter is by far the most popular as fans have a
huge appetite for new Holmes stories.
You can break the fiction into several smaller segments. One standalone
segment is modern stories that have an aspect of Sherlock Holmes association,
but don’t feature the characters themselves. Dan Andriacco’snovels with
Sebastian McCabe (No Police Like Holmes, Holmes Sweet Holmes and The
1895 Murder, and The Disappearance of Mr James Phillimore) are perfect
examples. Whilst Holmes and Watson don’t feature, fans can spot lots of
references to the original stories.
Stories that feature Holmes and Watson are often referred to as ‘pastiches’
and you can segment those even further.
We like to split them like this:
Traditional. Set in the same time as Conan Doyle’s originals and generally
written in the same style.
Cross Over. These can still be quite traditional, but bring in other major
characters from history – like Dracula and The Phantom of the Opera for
example.
Fantasy. Bringing in out of this world beings like fairies, warlocks, vampires.
There is some overlap with the cross-overs here.
The other segmentation that you can do is by length and we like to identify
three formats – novel, novella and short story.

Description
The recent decease of one of the descendents of Dr. Watson has brought to
light his personal papers. These include a number of stories that Dr. Watson
suppressed at the time for various reasons. As all involved are long dead, the
inheritor has agreed to the publication of a set of eight of the most interesting
adventures.
Review
The book contains eight stories and, on a cosmetic level, the most pleasing
aspect is the way that the book is presented in the style of the original Strand
Magazine. The typeface is the same (or very close to) and the illustrations are
excellent. In fact they almost make you feel like Sidney Paget had been
resurrected to produce them. I particularly enjoyed "The Adventure of the
Medium" and "The Adventure of the Amazonian Explorer" . All in all this is
very much one of the better collections of pastiche stories. For me personally
I very much like the fact that the author has stuck to the spirit of the originals.

Description
Sherlock Holmes is, of course, the arch rationalist, but his creator claimed to
speak with the dead. Conan Doyle, a medical man steeped in empirical
reasoning at Edinburgh University and the creator of the super-logical
detective, was fascinated, from his mid-twenties on, by Spiritualism, early
experiments in thought transference and healing through mesmerism. He
spent the last years of his life writing and lecturing on those subjects. Doyle
was first introduced to Spiritualism between 1885 and 1888 when he was
invited to the home of one of his patients, General Drayson, a teacher at
Greenwich Naval College. The medium was a railway signalman. Doyle was
amazed by some of the paranormal activity he experienced, but he was no
fool; he thought the other sitters at the séances naive and gullible.
Nevertheless, he was intrigued, and he used his skills of deductive reasoning
to investigate the possibility of communion with the dead. In these five
novelettes, Holmes and Watson pit their wits against supposedly ghostly or
ghoulish presences: the Ratcliffe Oracle, the Impulsive Vampire, The ghost of
One Little Maid from School, the Skull of KohadaKoheiji and the ghostly
apparition of Kit Marlowe.

Description
Someone is killing sheep in the Cotswolds. Or something. As Holmes and
Watson arrive in the tranquility of a little village of shepherds and farmers to
enjoy a few restful days in the idyllic countryside, strange things start to
occur. While Holmes locks himself in his hotel room, consumed by
depression, Watson is left to explore the surroundings on his own, acquainting
himself with both the local shepherding community, the eccentric vicar, and
the local folklore concerning a mysterious werewolf. It isn’t long before the
murderer directs his attention to other prey than sheep, and Holmes is forced
out of his ennui into a world of fog-enshrouded moors, wild men, pitchforks
and a big bad wolf. This volume also includes four shorter stories in the vein
of Conan Doyle: ”The Adventure of the Velvet Lampshade”, ”The Adventure
of the Missing Mudlark”, ”The Adventure of the Forking Paths”, and ”The
Adventure of the One-Armed Pugilist”.

It was an incredible year, the start of a new century. Queen Victoria was still

Transvaal and the Orange Free State defied the British Empire, and at home
Sherlock Holmes was at the peak of his powers.
Review
Few people have considered the early life of John H Watson in any depth.

It is early 1916 and the world is at war. Sherlock Holmes is well into his spy
persona as Altamont following the capture of the German spy Von Bork at the
opening of the Great War. Watson is called to London by Mycroft Holmes
and is asked to join Sherlock, who has infiltrated the Irish Volunteers. War
within the United Kingdom could deal a decisive blow to the war effort and
Holmes must find out the rebels' plans, and if possible, stop the rebellion
which appears imminent. He has need of Watson once again.

Description
It was the time of Queen Victoria’s “Little Wars” and the “War to End All
Wars”. It was also the time of Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson. Watson,
the man, would be formed by his experiences in the British “Second Afghan
War”, before he ever met Sherlock Holmes in an adventure, he would record
this experience as Watson’s Afghan Adventure, a tale of war and mystery.
Later, Holmes and Watson would go on to not only share the problems of
crime solving, Watson’s three marriages, a purported tragedy at Reichenbach,
and Holmes’s return from the dead; they would also share two more wartime
experiences. In Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Boer Wagon, they
are called on by Mycroft Holmes and the British government to go to the
battleground of South Africa. Their mission is to stop the flow of army secrets
to the Boers and try to recover a King’s ransom in gold. By the time of their
third great wartime adventure the two friends are retired, but Mycroft, and the
government, need them once more as they are called on in Sherlock Holmes
and the Irish Rebels. Holmes and Watson had already foiled the plans of a
German espionage ring at the start of the Great War in the tale Watson called
“His Last Bow.” But it was not, in reality, Holmes’s last bow. Holmes and
Watson are sent now to the little war within a war, the killing fields of Dublin
in 1916 and the Irish Rebellion. Can they stop it? And can they stop the plans
of a renegade member of the Dublin Metropolitan Police? A special hardback
edition including all three bestselling Sherlock Holmes novels from Kieran
McMullen.

one? That's what the dogged journalist Hale aims to find out. Covering the
Hangman Murders brings him into contact with a diverse cast of witnesses

Book 1 – Lyme Regis Trilogy
Description
The year is 1896. Doctor Watson is invited to the Dorsetshire coast by an old
friend. To Watson's surprise he manages to persuade his good friend, Mr
Sherlock Holmes to accompany him. This hitherto unknown tale of Watson's
involves romancing, dancing, occasional glasses of cider, but the holiday
turns into a nightmare as the two old friends encounter an unimaginable evil
which threatens their very souls. Can they triumph?
Review
David Ruffle has taken on the challenge of writing a short novel in the style of
Dr Watson, and all in all he does pretty well. It's very easy (I speak from
experience) to become stilted or florid or verbose. Mr Ruffle largely avoids
the stylistic traps. Mr Ruffle paints a vivid picture of Lyme and its harbour.
The characters are distinct individuals: the charming landlady, the
insufferable police inspector, Watson's friend the local doctor, and all the
others. And the plot is undeniably exciting!

Book 2 – Lyme Regis Trilogy
Description
The year is 1898. Doctor Watson is once more in Lyme Regis to visit the lady
in his life, Mrs Beatrice Heidler. A gruesome death with echoes of one of
Sherlock Holmes previous cases brings Holmes himself down to Dorset. In
the company of an old friend, they encounter an old enemy with vengeance on
his mind. A tale of revenge, violent deaths and plum puddings.
Review
This is an interesting collection of stories, constructed around a colorful and
interesting place. It is well worth the time it takes to read and it evokes
pictures of times long past and people worth knowing. The collection ends
with "A Brief History of Lyme Regis" and a pair of laudatory poems.

Description
1903. Lyme Regis. The Royal Navy comes to town. As do Sherlock Holmes
and Doctor Watson. And Mrs Watson. And Lydia. And a ghost. And a dog.
And a man with murder on his mind. This, the last of the trilogy of Sherlock
Holmes in Lyme Regis pastiches is bright, breezy and fun.

Book 1
Description
In 'Sherlock Holmes and The Dead Boer at Scotney Castle' the great
consulting detective comes up against the rich and powerful Kipling League.
Dr Watson recounts the extraordinary events which took place on a spacious
early summer day in the Sussex and Kent countryside in 1904. None of the
earlier stories chronicling the adventures of Sherlock Holmes compares to the
strange circumstances which determined Watson to take up his pen to relate
this extraordinary adventure against Holmes' express wishes.
Review
In 1904 the invitation to speak to the exclusive Kipling League at a Sussex
country house has unexpected consequences for the detective and the doctor.
Holmes suspects that the lecture was arranged to provide an alibi for the
murder at nearby Scotney Castle, but uncovering the truth stretches his
powers to the limit as the killers have learned more from him than he
supposed - and the Kipling League's schemes, like those of Baron Maupertuis,
are colossal. It's an engrossing tale, well told.

Description
It's the year 1900. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson receive an urgent
commission from the Prince Regnant of Bulgaria to come to Sofia. The Codex
Zographensis, the most ancient and most sacred manuscript in the Old
Bulgarian language has been stolen. Its disappearance could lead to the
outbreak of war between Russia, Austro-Hungary and the Ottomans, three
ageing empires disintegrating like great suns on every side of the Balkans.
What follows is an extraordinary story of duplicity, murder, vampires and
greed for vast estates in Bulgaria and Hungary, with the fate of millions in
Sherlock Holmes' hands.
Review
A very good story in the Canon Doyle style with an interesting historical
narrative. What I enjoyed most is something other readers will get a real
education from if they are not already familiar with the period. This takes
place in 1900 and Holmes and Watson are involved in a case with
international consequences for the world. They go to Bulgaria both to aid a
prince plus act on behalf of the British Empire.

Description
In March 1882, when John Watson is invited to Edinburgh to visit his cousin,
the eminent Dr. Patrick Watson, he convinces Holmes to accompany him on
what he believes will be a relaxing holiday. But where Sherlock Holmes tends
to go, then surely a crime must be detected. What begins as a chance
encounter of a seemingly simple mystery at an Edinburgh home, soon takes
Holmes and Watson in to conflict with the Edinburgh Police, an investigation
involving murder and corruption, and crossing paths with the local populace
including Dr. Joseph Bell. As Holmes works more closely with a young
Edinburgh constable on the case, it causes Watson to question not only his
own position, but his very relationship with Sherlock Holmes.
Review
The Case of the Edinburgh Haunting by David Wilson is a first-rate pastiche
and is extremely well-written. This is a superior pastiche which will leave one
wanting more from the pen and imagination of David Wilson, it certainly did
for me.

Review
"This book is so completely awesome. Erudite was a word another reviewer
used, which is the one word I would use to describe the book if I couldn't use
'awesome.'It's not for purists. Firstly, Watson's barely in it. Secondly, the
subject matter is a little bit more uh... edgy? than what I assume would be
traditional. Witchcraft, a little bit of sex (though not explicit, I think), drugs,
religious discussion. I mean, it does have Aleister Crowley in it as the Watson
subsitute, ha. This novel shakes up beliefs about Sherlock Holmes... which
makes it sound "merely clever" but I assure you it is not. It reads like the work
of an intelligent person passionate about sharing a story with you, as opposed
to a person passionate about showing you how clever they are. Which sucks if
they are not as clever as they think they are. heh. Still, if you are a purist this
novel is probably blasphemous. I personally find it sacrilicious."

Description
Erik has returned and has brought an interesting character to Holmes's
attention: Dr. Henry Jekyll. It appears Jekyll is experimenting on an
unsanctioned patient in an effort to prove his theories concerning human
nature correct. But who is the patient he's found? Is it his mentally ill father,
shut away for years in an institution? Is it Simon Stride, the jealous former
suitor of Jekyll's fiancée? Or could it be the mysterious, unsavoury murderer,
Edward Hyde, with whom Jekyll seems to have intimate knowledge?
Sherlock Holmes, along with Erik and Watson, investigates this bizarre case.
Holmes uses a very unorthodox method that brings him to the brink of
insanity as he delves into the mind of a man obsessively devoted to his work.
Will Holmes's own mind crack under the strain of this case?

Review
It isn't the first time that the detective and the vampire have been pitted
against each other, and it won't be the last, but it has a good deal going for it.
Other writers have shattered Holmes's disbelief in the supernatural, but Mr
Seitz assaults the credulity of Dr Van Helsing and others of Bram Stoker's
characters - without diminishing the excitement of the conflict. And (hurrah!)
he doesn't try to make Count Dracula a Byronic romantic hero.

Description
With Baron Barlucci escaping London on his way to New York with Abigail
Drake, Dr. Watson is certain they’ve seen the last of the Whitechapel
Vampire; Sherlock Holmes isn’t so sure. They soon learn the Animus Lacuna,
barque of the now infamous Barlucci, was reported lost at sea and a longboat
carrying the body of Abigail Drake was recovered by Newfoundland
fishermen. But when Inspector Andrews of Scotland Yard arrives to retrieve
her remains, the body suddenly disappears and Sherlock Holmes is called in
to investigate.
“Sherlock Holmes and the Body Snatchers” takes up the story of the
Whitechapel Vampire in New York, where Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson
meet, work with, and sometimes work against, New York detectives Mylo
Strumm and Michael Murray. Holmes and Watson are on a quest to find the
missing body of Miss Abigail Drake, while Strumm and Murray are
investigating a string of unusual murders that bear a striking resemblance to
the ‘Ripper’ murders in London.
Fast-paced and well-researched, “Sherlock Holmes and the Body Snatchers”
sequel to “Sherlock Holmes and the Whitechapel Vampire” takes the famous
detective out of his familiar London environs and places him in 1888
Manhattan, a place of sin and vice, rivalling the worst London has to offer.
Holmes chases his nemesis while he struggles with the enigma Barlucci
presents.

Spring 1887. Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson find a cuckoo in their
comfortable nest at 221B Baker Street when, after a chance encounter in Hyde
Park, twelve-year-old Winston Spencer-Churchill is dumped on them by his
far from doting mother, Lady Randolph. Winston blossoms under the
affectionate, if occasionally jealous care of Watson. His developing detective
skills and connections in Society are combined with a capacity for creating
mayhem. Add in pack of Indians from Buffalo Bill's Wild West show and a
homicidal pork butcher with an axe and as Holmes says of this first in a series

He will be much better prepared for daily life at his public school".

June 1887. As the climax of her Golden Jubilee celebrations, Queen Victoria
will join more than fifty foreign monarchs and heads of state, her peers of the
realm and her ministers in a service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey.
Spymasters in the newly created Special (Irish) Branch of Scotland Yard

wipe out the Queen and her family; Fenian assassins will throw bombs of
terrible potency using the new explosive, dynamite. Sherlock Holmes and his

Christmas 1887. With his mother and father away on a European tour, young
Winston Churchill, now thirteen years of age, spends his Christmas holidays
with Holmes and Watson. Young Winston is a lively addition to the
household, but Watson cannot help thinking that a cuckoo has landed in the
nest at 221B. Holmes places a reliance upon the boy that appears quite unfair.
He gives the boy tasks that would previously have fallen to Watson's lot. A
boy of thirteen can hardly be expected to bring to a problem the expertise and
sagacity of a seasoned professional or can he? Perhaps it is time for Winston
to spend more time with his brother and his nanny. Young Churchill assists
Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson as they trace the missing Apostles'
papers, expose the mad doctor of Hammersmith and track the Giant Moles of
Paradol Hall in Herefordshire.

college public relations director Jeff Cody finds himself knee-deep in
Sherlockian suspects, besieged by an aggressive reporter he loves but no

Writer-actor-director Peter Gerard's latest film was a smash hit, but some fans
of Sherlock Holmes were outraged. Why? Because 221 B Bourbon Street
portrayed the beloved detective as a goateed, saxophone-playing southern
American working in 1920s New Orleans! Was it a disgruntled Sherlockian or
someone else who hated Gerard enough to kill him - twice? That's what
mystery writer and college professor Sebastian McCabe, assisted by brotherin-law Jeff Cody, must find out before McCabe's own disgraceful
involvement in the affair comes to light. And it will take a little stage magic to
do it. Amidst this challenging mystery, Jeff's complicated relationship with
the lovely journalist Lynda Teal seems to be reaching a definitive resolution

Description
When popular mystery writer Sebastian McCabe agreed to take part in a
literary debate in London, he had no clue that he would wind up as both
investigator and suspect in the strangest case of his amateur sleuthing career.
Arthur James Phillimore, investment guru to the stars and member of an elite
Sherlock Holmes society, steps back into his home to fetch an umbrella one
rainy day and is never seen alive again. The mystery is eerily evocative of one
of Dr. Watson's most famous untold tales, the disappearance of Mr. James
Phillimore. But this Phillimore soon reappears - dead. Jeff Cody and Lynda
Teal, also in London on the second leg of their honeymoon, get swept up in
the bizarre case as well. From the home gym of a gorgeous movie star (the
second Mrs.Phillimore) to the flying office an airline entrepreneur, they help
McCabe chase down clues all over London. For the journalist Lynda, it's a big
story. For Jeff, it's a big distraction from the joys of married life. Dogging
them along the way is the shadow of Sherlock Holmes, the one subject that
several of the characters have in common. The great detective is also a figure
for whom Lynda - to Jeff's dismay and consternation - evinces a growing
fascination.

Description
Are librarians meek and mild bookish types with orthopedic shoes and granny
glasses? Or are they ruthless killers with voracious appetites for wine, women
and song? Can a young widow solve a murder with the help of a Chicago
policeman and an affinity for Sherlock Holmes? The Murder in the Library
reveals all. It is elementary, my dears.

Review
the book is entertaining, puzzling and a lot of fun. This is not a love story.
Instead, it is a coming-of-age tale starring two of our favorite characters.

Irene Adler is enjoying a quiet, undisturbed life in Sussex when the
mysterious disappearance of a local farmer named James Phillimore throws
her world into turmoil and forces her to enlist the aid of her friend and former
enemy Sherlock Holmes. Irritated by his flatmate John Watson's romantic

and unexpected loyalty that lie at the heart of a seemingly-innocent village
and a case filled with diabolical deception.

The adventures of Mrs.Watson with a supporting cast including Sherlock

Review
“What we have here is no more or less than a gorgeous romp involving
several characters from the Holmes Canon, principally Mary Watson.
Married to the good doctor who is forever heeding Holmes's calls and leaving
Mary twiddling her thumbs at home. Mary is evidently too feisty and
individual a woman to let this state of affairs continue for long and proceed to
set herself up as a detective in harness with the startlingly un-Victorian Emily
Fanshaw. The action flows along with great humour (very often at Watson's
expense) and verve.”

Review
The book is really a collection of short stories whose link is the problems
between the main characters, Mrs. Watson and Mrs. St Clair. They travel the
globe from New York to Baden Baden and search for almost anything ,
including the Holy Grail. This is not a serious study but a light hearted
adventure.

Description
Barefoot on Baker Street is set in late Victorian London where a life of crime
is the only way to escape poverty and servitude for one bright young
workhouse orphan. The narrative follows Red on her incredible life-journey
as it twists and turns through poverty, riches, infatuation, loss and love. A
dramatic escape from the workhouse at thirteen propels Red into a world of
slum housing, street gangs, prostitution and petty crime as the rapidly
expanding city groans under the weight of the industrial revolution. A chance
meeting with the mysterious and eccentric Sherlock Holmes prompts an
infatuation which cuts through her street-wise bravado. Red's blossoming
criminal career also brings her to the attention of Professor James Moriarty.
An autistic savant riddled with obsessive compulsions, Moriarty is a
dangerous criminal who draws Red into his life and onto a collision course
with Holmes.

The greatest mystery surrounding Sherlock Holmes comes to light-he was
actually a woman! The master-or rather, mistress-of disguise finally puts pen
to paper to reveal this decades-long deception and, in so doing, discovers
another fact she kept secret even from herself. The complex mind of the
brilliant consulting detective is finally opened to the public, in the chronicle of
a new case involving Dr. Watson and Constance Moriarty, the beguiling
daughter of Holmes’s infamous nemesis.
Review
“The woman Holmes lives as a man, and Watson believes her to be a man.

because it's essential to the story, which is a good one, involving the beautiful
daughter of the late James Moriarty.”

Sherlock Holmes
Novellas
‘Like a novel, but shorter, novellas are extremely popular as
a pastiche format. Conan Doyle’s four longer works were
really novellas by modern standards. Anthony Horowitz, who
wrote The House of Silk commented that he had to write two
interconnecting stories to reach the length required for a
modern novel. The longest of the four books from Conan
Doyle, The Hound of The Baskervilles was barely half the
number of words of a modern novel’

Description
When two prison guards are found beheaded in the barren countryside
surrounding Her Majesty's Prison at Wormwood Scrubs, Inspector Lestrade
seeks Holmes' singular powers to determine how the murders could have been
committed in separate locations with the only footprints being those of the
murdered guards themselves. With Doctor Watson at his side, Holmes sets out
on this new adventure and uncovers deeper mysteries still; mysteries that will
not only test the detectives' powers of observation and deduction, but his
skepticism of the paranormal as well.
Review
“Now, this is how I like pastiches to be, namely on the short side with
characterisations of Holmes and Watson spot on. To me very often less is
more and here the authors presents us with a novel crime which appears to be
'impossible' yet how can we think that with Sherlock Holmes on the scene. The
plot development is skilful and not hurried along in spite of the brevity of the
tale. The atmosphere is perfect.”

Description
From the well-worn tin dispatch box belonging to Dr J. H. Watson, three
untold stories are brought to light. In Sherlock Holmes and The Murder
AtLodore Falls, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are drawn into a case that
involves murder, blackmail and robbery. It is a case that leads to danger to
both Homes and Watson and brings a confrontation with their old adversary.
With Dr Watson facing his own personal nightmares, will Holmes be able to
solve the mystery and help his troubled friend? The two other tales are
Christmas stories. In The Adventure Of The Wooden Boat, Dr Watson is
haunted by an old tragedy and copes by building a model boat, which is an old
family tradition. In The Call of Angels, Dr Watson has an accident while
travelling back to Baker Street and is aided by a mysterious stranger. Who is
this mysterious stranger? Sherlock Holmes is determined to uncover the truth,
but all is not as it appears as his investigation comes to a stunning conclusion.

Description
A century after the publication of The Hound of the Baskervilles, the
relevance of both Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John H. Watson
is jeopardised. Their creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is accused of stealing
the narrative for 'the supreme adventure' from a friend called Bertram Fletcher
Robinson. Worse still, it is also alleged that Sir Arthur committed adultery,
blackmail and murder in order to conceal his act of plagiarism. The stage is
now set for the return of Holmes and Watson to Dartmoor in Devon!

Description
The indomitable Baker Street duo travel to the still wild areas of South Texas
to investigate the puzzling disappearance of an heir to the great estate in the
part of the South West known as The Wild Horse Desert. The pair travel by
steamship to the Texas coast and then overland to the Rancho Royal where
mystery awaits them. This is the second Sherlock Holmes pastiche from
celebrated cartoonist Dicky Neely. 'The Case of The Grave Accusation' had
Holmes and Watson travel to the future to clear the name of their creator Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle. The book featured input from the real life murder case
brought against Conan Doyle a few years ago and received great reviews from
Holmes fans.
Review
Of all the disguises in the canon, one that Sherlock Holmes never adopted is
that of a cowboy. DickyNeely remedies that lack in his novella, Sherlock
Holmes and the Texas Adventure. The short book is illustrated throughout by
delightful Dicky Neely cartoons.

1915. Sherlock Holmes to Watson: Stand with me here upon the terrace for it

there is not even the smallest amount of light penetrating the room. In the
room itself a dim light enables us to see a figure in a bed. The pipes, tubes and
all the trappings we associate with keeping someone alive have been removed.
The man, for it is a man, lies prone and still. Still, but not silent. 1929 The last
quiet talk.
Review
I strongly recommend this book, as it is written beautifully; full of wit and
heart and sincerity. David Ruffle wrote a wonderful last adventure, which
feels a bit like the end of the Tempest, when Prospero breaks his staff and
drowns his magic books. It breaks your heart, but it leaves you, too, at peace.

Description
Late on a foggy November afternoon, a desperate young woman arrives at
Baker Street, imploring Sherlock Holmes to help her. She is terrified about
what may be going on inside a secretive London refuge for Russian exiles,
where her sister works. Thus begins a frightening case which deeply strains
both Holmes and Watson because of the dreadful consequences of failure and
the mystifying nature of the forces against them. The case leads into strange
territory. Into the circles of Victorian radicals and idealists, where early
feminists and socialists rub shoulders with exiled foreign revolutionaries. To a
utopian anarchist commune in Essex wilderness, which imitates the Tolstoy
farm communes in Russia. Deep into the very dark political world from which
so many Russian exiles have fled.
Review
This story kept me interested through to the end where others have felt jarring
and inconsistent in their efforts to emulate Conan Doyle's style. A highly
recommended read for light-hearted mystery buffs and hardened Holmes fans
alike!

Review
This is a comforting and disquieting book all at the same time. The sense of
`1895' is so strong that it overwhelms the strangeness introduced by the
preternatural elements for most of the narrative. Holmes and Watson work
together with the familiar combination of trust and knowledge that fill the
Canon but are finally separated by their own natures and circumstances. It is
odd and familiar, comfortable and unsettling. It is just, as I suppose, as the
author planned it to be.

Description
A sequel to Shadowfall, this novel continues the adventures of Holmes as a
man of two worlds, gifted with both deductive and magical powers. The
convalescing Watson's country holiday is brought to an abrupt end when an
eccentric recluse named Edgar Telfair demands that Holmes investigate his
daughter's disappearance. Holmes's refusal to take the case is followed by
Telfair's sudden, horrific slaying. The act revives Watson's suppressed
memories of the Shadows and reintroduces him to Holmes's double life.
Together Holmes and Watson must find Alice Telfair, a witch whose
shocking powers are obtained through blood magic, the vilest form of sorcery.
Tracking her from Paris to Prague to America, they soon learn that she is
traveling with a shadowy figure equally as dangerous.

Description
In an alternative Steampunk universe (c.1885), the plans for Captain Nemo's
mysterious Nautilus submarine have been stolen from the British Secret
Service. There is only one man who can solve the case: Sherlock Holmes.
With his bionic sidekick Doctor Watson, and his brilliant and lethal sister,
Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock unravels a mystery that will shake the foundation
of the British Empire. Adapted by P.C. Martin from the short story 'The
Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
(c.1912), 'Steampunk Holmes' is a convergence of one of Doyle's favorite
Sherlock Holmes stories with Jules Verne's 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under
the Sea' (c.1870).
Review
A fantastic combination of the classic stories from Doyle and Verne putting
both Sherlock Holmes and the remarkable creation The Nautilus inside the
Steampunk universe that will be enjoyable for readers of both classic
literature and Steampunk. The Steampunk world that is created in this novel is
vivid and imaginative.

Description
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is one of the most written about men who ever lived
but despite this some parts of his life get little attention. One such period is
between 1891 and 1894 when he lived in South Norwood in present day south
east London. During this period he wrote and published much of his best work
including the first two series of Sherlock Holmes short stories. This book
looks at his life during this period and, in contrast to other biographies, spends
time looking at some of his input into local Norwood life.
Review
There are many books about Arthur Conan Doyle, but this one by Alistair
Duncan offers a new perspective, because it is focussed on the three or four
years that Doyle spent living in Norwood - and thus it's able to be more
detailed than a standard biography could possibly be.

Description
The late 1890s saw Arthur Conan Doyle return to England after several years
abroad. His new house, named Undershaw, represented a fresh start but it was
also the beginning of a dramatic decade that saw him fall in love, stand for
parliament, fight injustice and be awarded a knighthood. However, for his
many admirers, the most important event of that decade was the resurrection
of Sherlock Holmes - the character that he felt had cast a shadow over his life.
Review
This charming book stands not only as a testament to a crucial and hugely
productive period in the life of one of our greatest storytellers but as a proud
call to arms for his houses preservation.

Description
In 2009, a few inspired individuals took notice of the plight of Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle's former home 'Undershaw' in Hindhead, Surrey and determined
that it was up to them to do something about it. Banding together, they found
a way to create a window for spreading their passion and energy outwards to
the world around them. In the years that have followed, that window has
grown into a vast portal, through which thousands of devoted Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes fans from all over the world have gained
(and seized) the opportunity to have a very tangible impact on the
preservation of Doyle's legacy.
For those involved, Undershaw is infinitely more than 'just a house'. The
purpose of this book is to hold a proverbial hand lens to that deeper meaning
in hopes of capturing some small part of the deep emotion it represents. In the
pages that follow, you will find an eclectic collection of essays, original
artwork, and photography created by supporters and ambassadors from a wide
range of countries, all of which in some way address the same set of
questions: What is it about Undershaw that has the power to drive such a
wide range of people from all over the globe (most of whom have never met
one another in person) to join hands in support of protecting something that
for many is thousands of miles away in a foreign country? How has the
campaign or the property itself touched the lives of those who have come into
contact with it and what sorts of experiences have people had as a result? Our
intention here is to create a kind of insightful snapshot of these things as both
a form of reverent acknowledgement for the efforts that have been put forth
thus far, as well as a source of inspiration for the future.

Description
Ever since A. C. Black & Co. brought out their first Whos Who? of the great
and good in 1849 (followed in 1897 by Who Was Who after death intervened
and removed their entries to a separate volume) people have been fascinated
by the rich and famous. So there is, for example, a Whos Who in cricket, a
Whos Who in Agatha Christie. And even a Whos Who in a famous cemetery.
So if you have ever wanted to know where Watson bought his boots, or where
(and when) Inspectors Lestrade, Bradstreet, Athelney Jones, Hopkins and
MacDonald appear in the stories then this is the book for you. How many
times is Moriarty mentioned, and what was his henchman, Colonel Moran, up
to in an empty house? Who on earth was Acton and, more to the point, who
could possibly have been called (by the Great Detective himself) a rival to
Sherlock Holmes?

Description
A Few Lessons from Sherlock Holmes is a book for those who want to
improve their thinking. It is a practical and enjoyable book that tells in a
short-easy-to-read way about what we all can learn from Sherlock Holmes.
Peter Bevelin has distilled Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes into bitesized principles and key quotes. This book will appeal to both Sherlock fans
as well as those who want to think better. It contains useful and timeless
methods and questions applicable to a variety of important issues in life and
business. We could all benefit from A few lessons from Sherlock Holmes.
Review
“So much wisdom is packed into this small book it would be impossible to
distil it into a brief review. But everyone’s favorite maxims are there, such as,
“Eliminate all other factors and whatever remains must be the truth,” (from
The Sign of Four) and “Like all other arts, the science of deduction and
analysis is one which can only be acquired by long and patient study, nor is
life long enough to allow any mortal to attain the highest possible perfection
in it” (from A Study in Scarlet). In conclusion, I would recommend this book
to anyone – Holmes enthusiast or not – who might benefit from a primer on
systematized common sense.”Margaret Whitmer

Review
Mr Riggs's exposure of methods used by con artists is valuable, and I suspect
that if we could follow his own methods for training ourselves to observe, to
reason and to remember we'd achieve some of the qualities that we admire so
much in the great detective.

A diverse collection of Sherlock Holmes related writings including several

Sherlockian is obvious, and there is much here for Sherlock Holmes fans to
enjoy.
Review
It gives you the same sort of feeling as when you're chatting over a drink with
a knowledgeable fellow-Holmesian. After explaining how he came to be an
enthusiast - his principal allegiance is to the Tankerville Club of Cincinnati Mr Andriacco tells of his pilgrimage to Reichenbach. He considers the
influence of Sherlock Holmes on the methods of John Thorndyke, and lays out
sensible rules for the composition of a Holmes story. The reader can then
judge how well he follows his rules in "The Peculiar Persecution of John
Vincent Harden". Another neat story and two radio scripts complete this very
pleasant book.

There is melancholy here; there are laughs, tears and numerous flights of
fancy. Did I mention weirdness? The overall content of the forum is varied in
the extreme, covering every aspect of Holmes and Watson's lives and careers
and along the way we have set ourselves various challenges such as writing
pieces on a Holmesian theme for Christmas and Easter. Many of the pieces in
this collection sprang from such challenges and there were many more that
could have been included, but had to be omitted for reasons of space etc.

Description
In her third book author Molly Carr has, for the moment, abandoned the
Watson-Fanshaw Detective Agency in favour of discovering as much as
possible about Doctor Watson. Radically different in style from her first two
books, the investigation will nevertheless be of interest to students of military
history, railways both Indian and British and of course all fans of Sherlock
Holmes. Holmes is a household name. But where would he be without his
Biographer? Beavering away in Baker Street, unknown to everyone except
Scotland Yard and a few luckless criminals. It is time to put the loyal and
much put upon man, Dr. John H. Watson M.D., centre stage.

John H. Watson. It covers a lot of territory and does so in a readable and
interesting fashion.

Eliminate the Impossible
AlistairDuncan

9781904312314 (Paperback)
Kindle, iPad, Kobo, Nook.
Description
The book begins with a brief examination of the effect that the stories have
had on modern crime literature. It goes on to examine the origins of the
character of Holmes himself from his appearance to his drug use and
supposed dislike of women. We then move onto a mini-biography of some of
the significant characters in the series. Each of the original stories by Conan
Doyle is examined in an effort to explain some of the more esoteric aspects
and an examination is made of the attempts to form a proper chronology for
the stories - as Doyle did not write the stories in strict chronological order.
The second half of the book focuses on Holmes's career on the screen. There
is a brief examination of some of the more notable actors to have portrayed
Holmes and the films in which they appeared. Finally we look at the possible
requirements for a definitive screen portrayal of the canon.
Review
Alistair Duncan knows his Holmes, and he brings a fresh eye to this 240 page
survey of the Canon and its film and TV off-shoots. Eliminate the Impossible
is well written and entertaining.

It's that time of year again on Baker Street. That time when trees are trimmed,

Well, take one obsessive Sherlockian and give her a flood of ideas from
wildly-imaginative fellow fans... and you get one wacky advent calendar of
Sherlockian short stories. A picnic in a graveyard, a snowball fight, a violinist
on the roof, a vampire or two, Jack the Ripper, Professor Moriarty, and the
Baker Street Irregulars all combine to make this one unforgettable Christmas
collection.
Review
Miss Frame gives us insights into Holmes that mark her out as an
exceptionally gifted writer and a woman who truly understands these Doylean
characters. Not a traditional Holmes read by any means, but different in a
very rewarding and often moving way. Top marks to Miss Frame for so
wonderfully challenging our conception of Holmes.

Description
The 'thoughts' in this book are the fruit of nearly ten years spent studying the
canon and the life of Sir Arthur (Ignatius) Conan Doyle, writing two pastiches

and A Sherlock Holmes Who's Who. In it readers will find much to entertain,
along with enough out of the way information to interest even the most
knowledgeable Sherlockian. For those new to the iconic pair I have tried, as

about the man and his doings and perhaps become fervent Sherlockians

A dusty folio of official documents caught the eye of an experienced retired

historical elements of the stories from the perspective of a lifelong fan of the
material. It's not academic, but a companion - the passionate, excited, and

Sherlock Holmes, the best-known detective (sorry, consulting detective) on

a tribute to his genius, and to mark the occasion, The Holmes Sutra is
presented (by a crazed fan) as: (a) a compilation of one hundred and sixty
mantras (aphorisms/slogans/sayings - call them what you will) - some
original, some canonical, some based on various print/media adaptations aimed to make Sherlock Holmes (and his fans) smile, and (b) a test of the
readers' Holmes Mania Quotient (HMQ)- based on the resulting HMQ score,
the particular condition/stage of Holmes Mania would be determined, with
possibilities of a cure. Happy birthday, Sherlock - this is your birthday gift;

Description
Norman Schatell was the leading Sherlock Holmes artist of the 1970s. 'The
Lighter Side of Sherlock Holmes' is a collection of over 300 humorous
cartoons and illustrations based on the characters that appear in Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle's' famous stories. Many of the cartoons and drawings originally
appeared in 'The Baker Street Journal', the British 'Sherlock Holmes Journal',
'The Armchair Detective', 'The Baker Street Miscellanea', and 'The Serpentine
Muse'. Murder Ink, a former New York City mystery book shop, used fifteen
of the cartoons to illustrate a line of stationery. The book is a must for all
Sherlock Holmes buffs - and a treat for anyone who enjoys the stories,
movies, and television shows.
Review
Some cartoonists have looked beyond the Sherlockian clichés, and combined
artistic skill and a mad sense of humour with a deep knowledge of the canon.
One of the best was the amazingly prolific Norman Schatell (1925-1980),
whose work enlivened The Baker Street Journal, Baker Street
Miscellanea and other publications.

Description
Mycroft has a missing agent; the stepdaughter of Lord Wexford Foyle wants a
pearl brooch authenticated. Sherlock Holmes has little interest in either until
he learns the gem is the Jacobite Rose, a royal treasure. Reading Debretts
Peerage, Holmes discovers Lord Foyle has a brother who is known as a
craftsman in gold. Three strange clues the drawing of a rose, fish scales and a
fragment of pine resin discovered at the last known locus of the missing man
begin to link the two cases. This two act play, with ten main characters, is laid
out in a large format ideal for theatre groups and classrooms.
Review
Well-researched, well thought out and well plotted. A delight to read and one
would think a joy to perform also.

Description
Laughter, intrigue and suspense are evoked in equal measure by this fastpaced dramatisation of the classic Sherlock Holmes mystery. Originally
scripted for open-air performance in the promenade style, the action kicks off
with an amusing, rustic, Victorian melodrama; but thereafter it is the brooding
presence of Dartmoor which lies at its dark centre. Over the purple heather,
the granite tors and the sucking bog of Grimpen Mire, comes a parade of
colourful characters to confuse and disturb the courageous soul of Doctor
Watson, sent by Holmes to scout for some solid facts behind the highly
mysterious death of Sir Charles Baskerville. Fresh-faced from Canada, the
new baronet, Sir Henry Baskerville, - You can cut the Sir ! - is having none of
the old world superstition surrounding the ancient curse on his family; yet it
slowly becomes apparent, even to his no-nonsense mind, that a very real
threat is lurking on Baskerville Moor. And, what is more, it leaves footprints...

Description
The acclaimed National Theatre actor Robert Stephens said to the star of
Granada TV's Sherlock Holmes; Jeremy Brett; "Do not undertake the role of
Sherlock Holmes. He will be your undoing". "You must drop it Mr. Holmes,
you really must. It will be your undoing" said Professor James Moriarty upon
his first encounter with Sherlock Holmes. Somewhere between the fact and
fiction Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's greatest creation stole the soul of Jeremy
Brett, the actor who would become the embodiment of the Baker Street sleuth.
The Curse of Sherlock Holmes follows Jeremy as he fights for his sanity....
His life. This is the full script of the play by Dhanil Ali.
Review
It’s an imaginative presentation of Jeremy Brett hospitalized and unable to
distinguish between fiction and reality.

Description
All serious Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts want to visit London to see the
places mentioned in the Great Detective s adventures. The e-book version
allows enthusiasts to -visit- London from their home computers, or internet
connected TVs. This is achieved by hyperlinking the latitude & longitude
addresses in the book to the -Street View- feature in Google Maps. The map
coordinates are also GPS addresses for those who visit London with handheld GPS devices. The book groups the 400+ Sherlock Holmes sites by the
nearest underground or railway station. Entering GPS addresses after arriving
at the station will generate turn-by-turn directions from one Sherlock Holmes
site to another. Six walking tour maps are also included. These are not the
usual rambling tours, but walks in Holmes and Watsons footsteps. Finally, for
those with a statistical bent, the book lists 454 characters named in the book,
and statistically analyzes their titles and occupations.
Review
Ideally used in its e-book format where the map references are hyperlinked to
Google Maps and over 400 photographs. As a step-by-step guide to the
London of the Canon, it's unbeatable.

Description
The London of the late nineteenth century was home to both Arthur Conan
Doyle and his famous detective - Sherlock Holmes. This book looks at some
of the many locations in both central and outer London that have connections
to one or both of these famous names. In addition to examining the history
this book also looks at some of the theories that have been woven over the
years around Holmes and these locations.
Review
Mr. Duncan's location chapters are easy to follow and he communicates the
facts in an engaging and straightforward manner. It is as if an old friend is
visiting London for the day and s/he and the author are enjoying a relaxed
conversation whilst the latter points out, with great accuracy, important
canonical and Doylean locations and their context. The writing is very well
supported with over 140 black and white photographs (some colour in ebook
format), many showing how buildings looked over a hundred years ago and
their appearance today. This is a delightful book, as useful on your reference
shelves as in your pocket when on your field trip

Description
The definitive tour guide for anyone looking to retrace the steps, physically or
virtually, of Arthur Conan Doyle during his time in Devon and see the places
that inspired the Sherlock Holmes stories. The book features a comprehensive
tour map with GPS co-ordinates for around thirty key sites. Arthur Conan
Doyle is best remembered for writing sixty tales that feature his legendary
detective, Sherlock Holmes.
Review
Unlike many tour guides which leave one wondering if you're on the right
trail, this guide provides not just detailed maps but a combination of period
and contemporary photographs of the sites so you know what you're looking
for. The authors have even provided latitude and longitude so you can plug
into your GPS and be sure to find the pub on time! All in all, a wonderful
book.

A young woman named Deseray Underwood has been found dead, in her
London lodgings, by her finance Samuel Mortimer. The body itself shows no
signs of a struggle. Lestrade, baffled by the cause of death, summons the aid
of Sherlock Holmes and his great powers of deduction. Holmes stumbles upon
one single clue, a crystal blue bottle, which sends him and Watson on a wild
chase through the streets of London in pursuit of answers to this young
woman's sudden demise. A death that would make any benefactor very
wealthy.
Review
The story reads authentically, especially when Kuhns is writing in Holmes’s
voice... it works well. I enjoyed Blue Bottle’s story and its visual art.

Aside Arthur Conan Doyle: Twenty Original Tales by
Bertram Fletcher Robinson

Description
Aside Arthur Conan Doyle is a collection of twenty original short stories by
the twentieth Century Editor and Journalist, Bertram Fletcher Robinson
(1870-1907). He is perhaps best remembered for assisting Arthur Conan
Doyle with the story, The Hound of the Baskervilles (1901). Thereafter,
Fletcher Robinson wrote fifty-four stories before his tragically early death.
Throughout this period, Conan Doyle and Fletcher Robinson remained close
friends and each man appears to have influenced the other man's work. This
book was written as a tribute to the special friendship between Fletcher
Robinson and Conan Doyle; a friendship that enriched British literary history.
Review
This is a comprehensive collection of Robinson's writing and shows that he
was capable of impressive work and could have gone on to even greater
things had his life not been cut short. The quality of the reproduced articles is
excellent and the slightly larger than usual size of the book is perfect for
showing these articles as they were meant to be seen.

Description
The first biography about Bertram Fletcher Robinson, who acted as 'assistant
plot producer' to Arthur Conan Doyle over the Sherlock Holmes story The
Hound of the Baskervilles (1901/02).
Review
Bertram Fletcher Robinson was for many years only a name on the first pages
of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Now this man has been made flesh by Brian
Pugh and Paul Spiring. This book should severely dent, if not destroy, the
arguments of those people who suggest that more sinister reasons lay behind
Robinson's reduced contribution to this famous novel. It also illustrates that
this man is definitely worthy of being recognised as more than a mere
footnote.

The World of "Vanity Fair" by Bertram Fletcher Robinson
Paul RSpiring
3rd April 2009

9781904312536 (Paperback)
Description
Bertram Fletcher Robinson edited Vanity Fair between 1904 and 1907.
During his editorship, he began advertising widely and also swapped
publishing house from Arthur Evans to Harmsworth. These actions coupled
with the recruitment of writers such as PG Wodehouse saw an increase in the
readership of Vanity Fair. Between December 1905 and February 1907,
Robinson also had a series of fifteen articles entitled Chronicles in Cartoon
published in The Windsor Magazine. Within these articles, Robinson reviews
the most prominent caricatures and accompanying Jehu Juniors to appear in
Vanity Fair between 1868 and 1907. Collectively, these articles provide a
fascinating insight into every aspect of late Victorian-life and they will
interest both collectors of the famous caricatures and historians. During
January 1907, Bertram Fletcher Robinson died aged just 36 years. His
untimely death occurred just two months after he relinquished the editorship
of Vanity Fair and just one month before the conclusion of his serialization,
Chronicles in Cartoon. It is very likely that had he lived, he would have
sought to have the fifteen items that were published in The Windsor Magazine
compiled and republished in book form. Moreover, it is probable that he
would have considered this work to be his magnum opus given that he was a
graduate of History from Cambridge University. This book affords Robinson
that posthumous opportunity.

Wheels of Anarchy by Max Pemberton

Description
In January 1904, three men were elected to a small and secretive Londonbased criminological society referred to by its members as "Our Society."
Members of this society would meet at each other's homes to discuss real-life
crimes and ideas for stories. The three men were close friends and each, in his
own way, became a successful crime writer. The first was Max Pemberton, a
popular late Victorian and Edwardian novelist, who had several bestsellers,
such as 'The Iron Pirate' to his name; the second was Bertram Fletcher
Robinson, a man of many talents, who sadly died young, and before the full
extent of these talents could be realised; and the third, Arthur Conan Doyle.
These three friends formed a creative partnership that remains practically
unique within the annals of popular fiction. Robinson's collaboration with
Doyle over 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', belongs to literary folk lore, but
Robinson's dealings with Pemberton were likewise fruitful. During January
1907, Robinson contracted typhoid and became terminally ill. Shortly before
he died, Robinson drafted some notes for an adventure story and asked
Pemberton to write it for him. The result was 'Wheels of Anarchy', not only a
rip-roaring adventure story, that makes James Bond look like a stay at home,
but also a testament to the friendship between Pemberton, Robinson and
Doyle. It should engage Sherlock Holmes fans and aficionados of the
adventure and mystery genres alike.
