Advent in Zagreb officially begins with the lighting of the first Advent candle on the city’s main
square, Ban Jelačić square, on the 28th of November 2015. Surrounded witha lush Advent wreath
and beautifully decorated Christmas tree, theopen air stage at the main square will host a wide
variety of events, including children's performances, cultural, art and music events, as well as
concerts. The Advent season peaks with the traditio nal New Year’s Eve celebration, when citizens
of Zagreb toast to the old year and welcome the New Year with musical sounds and spectacular
fireworks.
The Christmas market is traditionally held in the charming streets around
Ban Jelačić square. Along the festive Bogovićeva and Gajeva streets,
Zagreb craftsmen and artists display a wide collection of Christmas
ornaments and decorations, souvenirs, gingerbread cookies and
many other Christmas treats and gifts, making your gift shopping
a pleasant and fun task. The real beauty of Advent in Zagreb
awaits at Zrinjevac, a beautiful park in the middle of the city
centerthat becomes a magical place during holiday season.
Through the alley of trees wrapped in thousand lights,
you will reach a sparkling fountain and the old music

M U L LED WINE
Ingredients:
Method:

1. Peel large sections of peel from your clementines, lemon and lime using
a speed peeler and cut into small pieces. Put the sugar in a large
saucepan over a medium heat, add the pieces of peel and squeeze in the
clementine juice. Stir slowly. Add the cloves, cinnamon stick and bay leaves.
Throw in your halved vanilla pod and stir in just enough red wine to
cover the sugar.
2 clementines
1 lemon
1 lime
200g caster sugar
6 whole cloves
1 stick cinnamon
3 fresh bay leaves
1 vanilla pod, halved lengthways
2 star anise
2 bottles of red wine
2. Let this simmer until the sugar has completely dissolved into the red
wine and then bring to the boil. Keep on a rolling boil for about 4 to 5
minutes, or until you’ve got a beautiful thick syrup.
3. When your syrup is ready, turn the heat down to low and add your
star anise and the rest of the wine. Gently heat the wine for around 5
minutes, pour it into glasses and serve.
