October 15, 2014 Gaylea Lunday will be here to talk about STAP (The Texas Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program) She will be here to help anyone that might need a specialized phone. October 17, 2014 Lunch & Learn with the Cowboy Poet Jack Taylor from 11:30am to 1:00pm. October 25, 2014 Fall Family Festival. Fun for the whole family at Freedom Park from 9am to 1pm. They will start the day with a fun run. There will also be a petting zoo, pony rides, costume parade, pumpkin patch, arts and food vendors. So bring the grandkids out and have fun. November 22 & 23, 2014 City of Angleton Market Days at the Brazoria County Fairgrounds. December 10, 2014 The Silver Heart Senior Annual Christmas Party from 9am to 1pm. Bring in your brochures, newspaper articles, or any information you have on trip suggestions to the Travelers Club meetings held quarterly at the Recreation Center. There is no registration necessary and the club is open to those 55+ who share the interest of traveling. Registration for quarterly trips opens the mornings of Travelers Club meetings. Seniors are registered on a first come, first serve basis and must do so person. October 6 & 7, 2014 Monday & Tuesday—Ghost Tour in Granbury Texas Come join us as we travel to Granbury, where their motto is “Where Texas History Lives” Granbury boasts more then 40 historical sites, from a 19th century jailhouse to Comanche Park, a sacred Native American site. The town has had some colorful characters pass through, such as Elizabeth Crocket widow of Davy Crocket, John Wilkes Booth and Jesse James to name a few. We will visit the jailhouse, the courthouse and take the Granbury’s Ghost & Legend tour, which was voted as one of the top 7 ghost tours in the country. Openings: 18 Leave Center: 9:00am (Monday Oct 6) Return to Center 7:00 pm (Tuesday Oct 7) Fee: $68 Shared room (Single room add $37) Meal: Each person is responsible for their own meal. October 14, 2014 Tuesday—Senior Day at the Brazoria County Fair. Join us again this year as we visit the Brazoria County Fair for their annual Senior Day. There will be games, entertainment, contests and lunch. Openings: 22 Leaving Center: 8:00am Return to Center: 2:00pm Fee: FREE Meal: Meal will be included. October 18, 2014 Saturday—Madisonville’s Mushroom Festival We will travel to Madisonville for their Annual Texas Mushroom Festival. At last years festival there were 278 arts and craft booths including everything from jewelry to seasonal art. There will be mushroom cooking demonstrations by professional chefs, wine tasting (For a Fee), a quilt show and musical entertainment. There will be a lot of walking, and it might be hot or cold so dress appropriate. Bring a hat or an umbrella. Openings: 22 Leave Center: 8:00am Return to Center: 7:00 pm Fee: $8 Meals: Each person is responsible for their own meal. November 7 & 8, 2014 Friday & Saturday—Henderson TX. Syrup Festival & London Museum We are going to Henderson, TX. For the 25th Heritage Syrup Festival, where you will be able to visit the Depot Museum to watch cane syrup making, folk art demonstrations and see saw mill demonstrations. The festival will have vendors & exhibitors and there will be musical entertainment. We will also visit the London Museum that tells about the tragic explosion in 1937 at London School. Openings: 14 Leaving Center: 8:00am (Friday Nov. 7) Return to Center: 8:00pm (Saturday Nov. 8) Fee: $75 shared room (single room add $58) Meals: Each person is responsible for their own meal. November 15, 2014 Saturday—Trader’s Village 25th Annual Native American Indian Pow Wow Join us for the Native American Pow Wow at Trader’s Village. There will be dance competitions, Native American arts and crafts as well as authentic Native American food. There will also be all the vendors that Trader’s Village is known for. Openings: Leaving Center Returning to Center Fee: Meals: 22 8:30 am 5:30pm $4 Each person is responsible for their own meals. November 23, 2014 “Arsenic and Old Lace” A Play in Texas City Join us as we travel to College Of the Mainland’s Community Theater for a performance of the classic comedy thriller Arsenic and Old Lace. We will have dinner after the play. Openings: Leaving the Center: Returning to Center: Fee: Meals: 22 1:15pm 8:00pm $24 Each person is responsible for their own meal. December 5 & 6, 2014 Friday & Saturday—Wimberley Market Days & Outlet Shopping We will be going to the Wimberley Market Days just in time for you to do some serious Christmas shopping. We will also visit the San Marcos Outlet Center. Openings: 14 Leaving the Center: 8:30am(Friday Dec 5) Returning to Center: 8:00pm (Saturday Dec 6) Fee: $68 Shared Room (Single add $51) Meals: Each person is responsible for their own meals. December 15 2014 Monday—Festival of Lights & Ice Sculptures We will visit the Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens this year. They also have a holiday themed ice sculpture area, called Ice Land. Ice Land will be very cold so please bring a scarf and gloves, Moody Gardens will only supply you with a parka. We will stop for a late dinner on the way home. Openings: 22 Leaving the Center: 3:45pm Returning to the Center: 9:00pm Fee: $24 Meal: Each person is responsible for their own meal. NOTE: A gas surcharge has been added on all our trips. The fee is based on the number of miles in a trip and the number of people that can sign up for a trip. Prices are based on the number of participants in the group. We are required to purchase some tickets in advance, therefore once you have registered, there will be no refund unless someone is able to take your place. Participants must be independent or have a caregiver sign up to attend the trip as a guardian. Meals are not provided unless specifically stated in the description of the trip . S I LV E R HE A R T S N E WS L E T T E R PAGE 4 SENIOR WEDNESDAY’S Every Wednesday we invite you to join us for cards, dominos, puzzles, crafts, and bingo, or just to socialize and have lunch. EVERYTHING IS FREE, so join us for the entire day or drop in for a little while. Brown bag lunches are provided during the Wednesday program, but we ask you to pre-register for it at the Recreation Center by the Tuesday before the program. The group will meet at the Recreation Center once a month and then travel to local restaurants and review them. Each person will fill out a review on food quality, service and attitude, and ambiance and cleanliness. Pre-registration required. Menus available upon request. Must sign waiver form to participate. You do not need to register for Wednesday Senior program, but we need to know one day in advance if you are eating lunch. Some Senior programs require registration paperwork . These forms must be completed and returned with appropriate fees before participating in any Parks and Recreation program. All program fees are regulated according to the cost of the instructor, supplies, and minimum class enrollment. Wait List If the class/activity you desire has already filled, staff will place you on our waiting list. If an opening becomes available, staff will notify you. Program openings will be filled on a first-come first served basis. Registration Fees Fees may be paid by cash, check or credit cards at the time of registration. Any returned checks will be subject to a $30 charge. Cancelations Policy All programs must have a minimum number of participants in order to be conducted. If a program does not meet this minimum by registration deadline, the class may be cancelled or revised within 48 hours prior to program starting date. Refunds Programs/Activities: Due to the cost of supplies, staffing, and prepayment of activities, refunds or transfers will not be given unless a doctor’s note stating they were unable to participate, or unless there is someone on the waiting list who is able to take your place. 1. A $10 processing fee will be charged for all refund checks issued. 2. Credits to your account are only good for one year after cancellation. 3. A program may be prorated or forfeited depending upon date of request and program guidelines. 4. All request for refunds will be reviewed by management. 5. Refunds will be given as a credit on account or check processed. No cash refunds. 6. Processed refunds will be mailed and could take up to 3 weeks.
