You will receive your name badge and the conference materials, including the USB memory

If you have registered on-line and have booked the full conference package including
accommodation, final conference registration will be possible for you at your hotel – and
only there – from 12:00 to 22:30 on July 10. Please register before proceeding to the hotel
check-in.
You will have chosen one of two hotels:
Acora Hotel (basic option):
Courtyard Marriott (surcharge):
Nordring 44-50
D-44787 Bochum
+49-234-68 96-0
Klinikstr. 43-45

We have reminded you of your choice in a mail dated May 26, 2015. Please make sure that
you travel to the right hotel. Regular check-in times are 15:00 at Acora and 16:00 at
Courtyard, but rooms may be available earlier.
Please inform us in case you plan to arrive at your hotel later than 22:30 on July 10.
If you have registered on-line without booking accommodation (including having booked
accommodation in the Renaissance hotel with a conference code) or have not registered online, you are kindly asked to use our registration desk at the Opening Ceremony venue, which
will be open for you from 16:00 to 19:30 on Friday, July 13.
For all participants, registration will be possible at the Gastronomie, and only there, from
Saturday (July 11) morning onwards.
At registration, the remaining conference fees need to be paid in Euro and cash. We cannot
accept credit or debit cards. Please refer to the following table to find out which fee applies
to you. In case you have registered on-line, your down payment of 100 EUR is of course to be
deducted from the fees listed below. To ensure a smooth registration process, please have
the appropriate Euro amount ready in bills only up to 100 EUR.
Neither money exchange nor ATMs are available at any of the registration sites.

Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony will take place at the Conference Center (Hall 2b) on the campus of
Ruhr University Bochum on Friday, July 10, at 18:00.
Bus transport to the campus will be available from both conference hotels at 17:00 sharp.
Conference participants staying in the conference hotels are kindly asked to please make
sure to be in the hotel lobby by 16:45 in order to ensure a timely departure. Since the
Conference Center at Ruhr University Bochum is not accessible for travel buses, the transfer
will involve a ten minutes’ walk across the campus.
All other conference participants are kindly asked to come directly to the Conference Center
and, if possible, register there before the start of the Opening Ceremony (or by 19:30 the
latest). For finding the venue, please refer to the attached travel information sheet.
In case you take a taxi to Ruhr University Bochum, please tell the driver to let you off at
Veranstaltungszentrum (i.e. Conference Center, see map).
After the opening ceremony, a group picture will be taken in front of the Auditorium
Maximum of Ruhr University Bochum (at approximately 19:10). From 19:30 to 21:30,
conference participants are cordially invited to join the Korea Foundation Dinner Reception
on the uppermost floor of the Conference Center.
Buses to the conference hotels will leave (again from across the campus) between 21:30 and
22:00. You will be guided back to the bus station.
Conference Venue and Panel Sessions
The academic part of the conference will take place in the “Gastronomie im Stadtpark”, a
conference location situated in a pleasant park, a few steps away from the Courtyard Hotel
and a ten to fifteen minutes’ walk from Acora Hotel. Participants staying at Acora will be able
to follow a guide to the Gastronomie on Saturday morning. Guides will leave from Acora at
07:30, 08:00 and 08:30 on Saturday only.
Free W-LAN access will be available in the Gastronomie.
An AKSE registration/information desk will be open at the Gastronomie during session hours.
Presentations will take place in four parallel panel sessions in four conference rooms, named
“Stiepel”, “Altenbochum”, “Wattenscheid”, “Harpen”. All four conference rooms are located
on the upper floor of the building. Please note that you can only enter the conference area
with your name badge which you receive when registering.
All sessions except one are four paper sessions of 105 minutes length. We have allocated 20
minutes for each presentation and altogether 25 minutes for discussion. The last session on
Saturday is a three paper session of 80 minutes length (20 minutes for each presentation, 20
minutes for discussion). Panels do not include a formal discussant, although panel chairs are
invited to briefly (less than five minutes) comment on the panel before opening the
discussion for the floor. Papers will be presented in English or Korean.
If you wish to have your presentation supported by PowerPoint, please bring your
presentation on a USB stick in ppt or pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint) AND pdf format (Adobe).
Name your file with plain Latin alphabet letters (without any diacritics). Presentations
should be copied to the notebooks in the respective conference room during the break
preceding your panel at the latest. Notebooks in the conference rooms are based on
Microsoft Windows 7. An Internet access will be available; however, we strongly advise
against using internet-based presentation formats since we have no means to influence the
quality of the connection. Please also note that you should only use the notebooks provided
by us for presentations. It will not be advisable to connect your own laptops to the projector.
Conference Volume
Following the precedent set at the AKSE Conference 2013 in Vienna, we will not publish a
printed conference volume. Instead, each participant will receive an electronic conference
volume (containing all abstracts as well as those full papers that have been submitted in
time) on a customized USB memory stick. This stick will be handed out during registration as
part of the conference package.
Meals
Light breakfast, coffee breaks and lunch will be served at the Gastronomie on all conference
days (Saturday, Sunday, Monday). A fare-well dinner sponsored by the Academy of Korean
Studies will be served in the Gastronomie on Sunday evening.
Regular breakfast at the hotel restaurant is not included in the conference package for
those who have booked accommodation at Acora or Courtyard through AKSE. If you wish to
have breakfast at the hotel nevertheless, you will have to pay upon check-out. The light
breakfast at the Gastronomie is served from 7:30 every morning.
Please note that all meals are available to registered conference participants only.
Closing Concert
Thanks to the gracious support by ARKO (Arts Council Korea), conference participants will be
able to enjoy a performance of traditional Korean music on Sunday evening from 18:15 to
19:15 (between panels and fare-well dinner). For details, see “closing concert” in our
conference schedule.
End of Conference
The conference will end with lunch on Monday, July 13.
Check-out times are 11:00 for Acora, 12:00 for Courtyard. Please make sure to leave your
hotel room in time. We advise to leave your luggage at the hotel front. It will be possible to
deposit luggage near the information desk at the Gastronomie; however, we cannot take any
responsibility for your personal items.
Climate/Temperature
Weather in the western part of Germany is rather unpredictable. Daily highs in July can range
between roughly 20°C and 35°C, daily lows between 10°C and 20°C. In case of rain and wind,
evenings and nights can be chilly.
The weather forecast as of July 3 predicts sunny weather, but also a tendency towards
intermittent thunderstorms for the time between July 10 and July 13.
