OPERATIONS Water Consumption City of Ottawa Water Rates increased approximately 9% recently. Here are a few ways to help keep the consumption down in your locations. •Replace toilets with those that use less water. •Have plumber check fixtures regularly to help foresee any issues you may have with them and have them fixed before they become a big problem. •Repair that leaky faucet, 2 drips per minute wastes 33 litres per month. As summer is upon us and promises to be hot and humid, Carlingwood Operations Gets a Building Automation System we should do our part and help conserve energy and lessen the load on our power grid. Here are a few ways you can help so hopefully we won’t face any power failures or blackouts in the heat of the summer: Ensure store signs are only illuminated between 9 am and 9 pm. Ensure any baseboard heaters are turned off as they are not required Adjust thermostat to 23˚ Take advantage of one of the programs offered to small businesses to help save money for your business and help conserve at the same time. Visit www.saveonenergy.ca for more information. Our operations department recently commissioned its new building automation system. This system allows the operations department to control lighting and HVAC in the common areas by a computer operated system in the administration office. The benefits of this system will be a more comfortable common area, as we are able to ensure HVAC and lighting are only on when needed, while saving money and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Storefront Cleaning Soaring Hydro Bills? Why not monitor your consumption in an effort to help you control costs? Monitoring your consumption of electricity is easy if you are a Hydro Ottawa customer. Simply go to Hydro Ottawa’s website and sign up for myhydro link. With an account number and some other relevant information you can accurately see how much electricity you use and when. www.hydroottawa.ca Please ensure that your storefronts, doors, windows, bulkheads etc. are all free of dust and cleaned on a regular basis, keeping fingerprints and dust continually removed will help your store look inviting to customers! SECURITY Defense Tactics & Crisis Awareness Through active participation by the security team, security continues to train on how to verbally and/or physically control individuals when faced with varying levels of resistance. These skills build on those learned within the Defensive Tactics program. This year the program was run by Max Carter and Jim Adamson from Awareness First Inc., in line with our co-operate initiatives on June 24th and 25th. Emphasized in this course are areas such as: Effectively making arrests, functioning within the Canadian Legal System and learning proper skills on controlling crisis situations. Upon successful completion of this course security will be able to demonstrate: • How to properly carry, access and maintain standards with controlled restraints • How to effectively apply restraints to both nonresistant and actively resistant people • How to defend oneself against aggressive/uncooperative individuals prior to being placed in restraints • De-escalate situations utilizing verbal command techniques and control measures • Emphasis on public safety and security and effective customer relations - Carlingwood Booster Packs The security department here at Carlingwood would just like to remind everyone of our Battery Boosting program.
