THE GREAT OUTDOORS ITINERARY Enjoy outdoor pursuits DAY 1 offered by two outstanding hotels in the spectacular Highlands of Scotland, each located beside a loch with a mountainous backdrop. Stay in a 19th century Scottish castle, recently voted the best hotel in Europe, with a Arrive at Michelin-starred INVERLOCHY CASTLE HOTEL near Fort William and check into one of the individually-designed 17 bedrooms: the hotel is set in the West Highlands of Scotland amongst lochs, glens and mountains. Awarded AA 3 Red Rosettes and 1 Michelin Star for their modern British cuisine, the hotel offers three dining rooms, all with decorative furniture gifted by the King of Norway. frescoed ceiling and Venetian crystal chandeliers where Queen Victoria spent time painting and sketching. Then move on to a private family-run hotel with its own intimate boathouse retreat; sea and river views are enjoyed by all five suites, some feature a balcony or patio, hot tub or coal fire. DAY 2 Enjoy some of Scotland’s finest scenery while staying at Inverlochy Castle Hotel – it sits at the foothills of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. EXPERIENCE OPTION Ref. IC1 – Sightseeing tour by Rolls Royce. Be introduced to the Highlands of Scotland in style and comfort on this scenic day tour of the area in a swish Rolls Royce Phantom. You will enjoy a champagne picnic during the tour (up to four hours). Choose from a drive to Loch Ness or to Glenfinnan monument and viaduct around Loch Linnhe and Acharacle. If you take the chauffeur drive option for this tour, there is no additional charge, otherwise the cost for two people is £450. INVERLOCHY CASTLE & POOL HOUSE Tour 003 6 nights DAY 3 Opt for a cruise on Loch Ness or try one of many outdoor activities in the area which include hiking, biking and pony trekking. EXPERIENCE OPTION Ref. IC2– Scenic and wildlife tour. On this half-day tour, travelling by 4x4 vehicle or 8x8 Argo, you’ll pass by Loch Lochy and Loch Arkaig, enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the rugged countryside en route, and enjoy afternoon tea and cakes at Ardechive House. The cost for a half day tour is £275 for two people. EXPERIENCE OPTION Ref. IC3 – Photographic tour with a deer stalker. Starting around 10am and returning late afternoon, with a packed picnic lunch, you will explore the scenic Highland hills and ridges with a deer stalker who, with a bit of crawling or sliding, will get you close enough to the deer to get some great photographs. The cost for a half day tour is £275 for two people. DAY 4 Check out of Inverlochy Castle after breakfast and drive north for 127 miles to POOL HOUSE, Poolewe. Relax after your journey in the billiard and whisky room and family library or meander around the small crofting hamlet. There is a set dinner menu each evening in the dining room. Alternatively a locally caught seafood and shellfish platter can be provided (available by prior arrangement). DAY 5 From this private family home you’ll enjoy commanding views over Loch Ewe and the beautiful sub-tropical Inverewe Garden. There is a nine-hole links course nearby which overlooks the Isle of Skye. EXPERIENCE OPTION Ref. PH1 – Half day canoe paddling adventure. On this half-day tour you can explore the Scottish bays or rocky shorelines of Wester Ross in a canoe or kayak, tours will be tailor-made for you – whether beginner, skilled, or family, with www.ewecanoe.co.uk Cost is £70 for two people. EXPERIENCE OPTION Ref. PH2 – Learn to Climb. Suitable for beginners or rusty climbers, you’ll cover the basics of rock climbing, abseiling, develop climbing skills and movement on the rock, and tackle easy and enjoyable routes with www.gofurtherscotland.co.uk The cost is £160 for two people. INVERLOCHY CASTLE & POOL HOUSE Tour 003 6 nights DAY 6 An array of activities is available in this region, including marine cruises, sailing trips and sea angling. EXPERIENCE OPTION Ref. PH3 – Guided mountain walk. You will discover some remote and beautiful mountains on this guided mountain walking day tour, tailored to your own requirements with www.gofurtherscotland.co.uk. The cost is £150 for two people. EXPERIENCE OPTION Ref. PH4 – Shellfish Safari. From Loch Gairloch, go on a Shellfish Safari with local Skipper Ian McWhinney - a supplier to many London restaurants. You’ll haul creels in Badachro Bay such as langoustine, lobster or crab; return to Pool House with your catch and the chef will cook it for your supper with www.shellfishsafaris.co.uk. The cost for an hour and three quarters trip is £17.50 per person. DAY 7 Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before checking out. Inverness airport is 82 miles from Pool House, and Edinburgh is 145 miles away. The drive back, down the side of Loch Maree is on one of the most beautiful roads in the world. Additional hours would be added to the final bill upon completion of the hire if incurred. Option 2: Self-Drive Mercedes E-Class or Jaguar XF saloon • 7 days self-drive car hire. Inclusive of mileage and insurance • Insurance excess is £1500.00 for any damage caused. This can be reduced to £750 upon payment of an additional £15 per day. • One additional driver at no extra charge. • Rate is based on collection of car from Edinburgh Airport with drop off at Edinburgh Airport • Vehicle must be returned with a full tank of fuel • All vehicles would have integrated navigational aids.
