Talking of the new, our food court, My Square, has been given quite the face lift
and is now the one-stop destination for all foodies, where variety meets flavour.
My Square is home to some of the most renowned brands and offers you the
opportunity to meet, greet and eat – what more does one need in life! With 14
brands that bring the world on your platter, the temptation is aplenty. Apart
from these options, there are carts of eatables, baked goodies and candies. The
al fresco seating is perfect for a summer lunch or an evening snack. My Square
will be hosting events such as book launches, exhibitions, cooking classes and
so much more. So bring family and friends to My Square for some experiential
dining that they’ll never forget. To add to the smiles on your face, we also have
Drool and Keventers opening their doors at Select CITYWALK very soon.
Do take a walk on our High Street for some sun, fun and a shopping spree. With
Hurom, H2O, Shahnaz Husain, Preeti Mohan and a lot more, we strive to cater to
all your needs. Kathis has also found its spotlight at Select CITYWALK and we’d
like to welcome you in to embrace all the newness.
My Square beckons, all that good food beckons, a great time beckons. Put those
bibs on and come on over.

I
s the heat too high? Fret not. Give your skin an invigorating burst of coolness
with the new sorbet refreshment by The Body Shop. With the ground breaking
aqua sphere technology, the new vitamin E aqua boost sorbet contains
microscopic moisture spheres that act like tiny reservoirs delivering a 24-hour
feed of moisturisation helping the skin quench its thirst. It is enriched with
wheat germ oil, shea butter and community fair trade soya oil, which is obtained from
GM-free, organically grown soya beans cultivated in the hinterlands of Iguazu river in
Gebana, Brazil. The rich moisturising properties of soya oil meet the needs of even very
dry and mature skin, leaving a soft-velvety, feather-light tingling effect post application.
Available as body sorbets in four fruity flavours –strawberry, and satsuma and one
floral fragrance - moringa, they offer the ultimate summer sensorial experience. body
sorbets contain 100 per cent organic community fair trade aloe vera from Guatemala
to comfort your skin and help you stay fresh and confident all summer long. Store the
sorbets for face or body in the refrigerator for an even more rejuvenating sensation!

atch yourself eating your lipstick up often, don’t you? There
has always been some mysterious logic behind making makeup
smell or taste like food, especially dessert. Scan an eye through
all your makeup items and you’ll find these names pop up
– chocolate, strawberry, cinnamon, marshmallow, cranberry,
raspberry, cocoa, cream, plum, wine, champagne and so on. What’s food got
to do with makeup really? A lot, it seems.

Gaspberry!
Cranberry, raspberry or blackberry –
pick a berry you like and squish it all
over your lips because the berry lip
is here to stay. When opting for this
look, keep in mind that the berry lip
is central and build your look around
that. In the lighter tone, stick to a
sheer berry hue with pink undertones,
while in the medium tone; pick a
berry with brownish undertones. For
the deep dark berry, a deep purple,
plum or red wine is your best pick.
What’s more, this dark, sensuous
colour looks great on all skin shades.

Whip that cream
Think whipped cream on your fingers. This is one amongst
many of the minimalist trends that’s been trending through
negative manicures, marshmallow-y French manicures or
simply cream-filled swirls of satiny polish. Loud and bold is
so last season. Embrace the subdued and sophisticated. Tone
down your nails to pale pink, sandy beige, creamy ivory and
chic marbles. Not to say that you can’t get graphic with this
subtle shade. You can! Paint just those half moons with this
colour or create a flip-flop look with negative space. Swipe
stripes across your nails horizontally or vertically or even
a geometric pattern would bring this trend to the fore. Go
whip that cream now.

Sheer lip colour is always handy, Bobbi

When in the mood, a tomato red lip can
do wonders. Tangy, bold and a statementmaking makeup trend, the red lip is back
with a bang. A vivid colour, this striking
trend is not just for the brave-hearted
but even the coy flirtatious damsel. Blend
with a bit of tangerine orange and you’ve
got a softer and easy-to-wear shade. These
high-impact lips are rich, saturated with a
soft edge with a slightly stained effect. So
go for that electrifying poppy red or blend
with a matte orange tint, either way, the
red lip has returned.

FLAVOURS ABOUND IN
PENANG, MALAYSIA
Another heavyweight in street or
hawker food, this cosmopolitan
island state in the south-east is
definitely a foodie’s paradise,
where the specialties offered by
the roadside stalls and carts are a
mirror to its multicultural makeup.
The many fusion delectables are
the city’s main draw; thanks to its
Chinese, Malay and Indian populace.
A great eating destination, Penang
offers meaty street foods replete with
huge hawker centers. With infinite
soups to slurp, tons of noodles- fried,
tossed or in broth and a variety of
Indian-influenced curries and rotis
(flatbread) to gorge on, Penang is a
foodie’s paradise.
MUST-TRY
Head to Gurney Drive
in Georgetown or at
Kimberley Street in
Chinatown to indulge
in cheap, scrumptious
fare. Assam laksa (sour
fish curry), muar chee
(sticky rice cakes with
ground peanuts), cendol
(pandan-scented rice
noodles in coconut milk)
and ‘char kway teow’
(stir-fried rice noodles)
are must-haves.
MUST-TRY
Capo Vucciria and Ballaro are the
city’s sure shot street food havens.
Do not forget to close your meal
with a sugar-dusted ‘cannoli’,
Sicily’s iconic pastry with a velvety
ricotta filling. Assure yourself of a
heavenly swirl in the mouth with
Palermo’s must-try street food
‘Gelato con brioche’, an ice-cream
sandwich made using hamburger
rolls and generous amount of
gelatos.
GET EPICUREAN DELIGHTS IN PALERMO, ITALY
Unravel the secrets of world-famed Italian cuisine by lounging over a meal in bylanes of
the Sicilian capital. With Italian, Greek and North African influences, the open-air fare at
Palermo transports one to the cultural history of Sicily. Hit the city’s food stalls for some
amazing fried delicacies like arancini (fried rice balls stuffed with meat sauce), crocche (fried
potato balls), panelle (fried chicpea pancake), cardoni (fried cardoon) and classic Italian
quick-eats like Sicilian pizza, gelato and slushy granitas in coffee, almond and lemon flavours.

BANGKOK IS BUSTlING WITH FOOD
MUST-TRY
Head for Soi Rambuttri lane,
popular as the Pad-Thai
Alley and help yourself to a
serving of pad thai- stir-fried
noodles with egg, fish sauce,
tamarind juice, red chili
pepper, and a combination
of meat, garnished with
crushed peanuts. Also, give
a try to som tum gai yang
(green papaya chicken salad)
and khanom bueang (crispy
sweet pancakes) along the
Nang Loeng market.

Here street food is a way of life. Calling Thailand’s
capital city as one of the food capitals of the world
would definitely not be an understatement. The
many sidewalk squares of Bangkok, abuzz with
hawkers and stalls leave you with umpteen options
to eat well in the city without ever stepping inside a
restaurant. Pull up a plastic stool and choose from a
variety of fried noodles, creamy coconut, meat, rice
and tropical fruit desserts as you engage in endless
banter with your near and dear ones. Even by the
locals’ own admission, the finest and tastiest of
Thai cuisines are found on the streets and corners
of Bangkok. The city’s street food culture is built
around the Thai habit of sneaking in many small
meals throughout the day.

MUST-TRY
Make a stopover at the Rue El Kassabin for the piquant ‘mechouis’ (slow
roasted lamb) and then go ahead
to sample the thin Moroccan-style
macarons filled with vanilla and coconut, a hearty bean soup or ‘harira’
and tangy ‘merguez’ (sausage)
sandwiches at the Djemaa el-Fna, the
city’s main square.
SAVOUR THE MOMENT AT
MARRAKECH, MOROCCO
With close to a hundred open-air stalls, the main square in
this African city turns into one big ‘food carnival’ at dusk,
thronged by gazillions of street food junkies relishing spicy
and flavourful Moroccan cuisine among other activities like
snake charming, tarot card reading and local performances.
Whether you are the one with an adventurous or a more
conservative palate, the open-air fare of Marrakech caters to
all with its range of brochettes (assorted fish), tagines, fried
aubergine and couscous dishes.
ENJOY ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES
IN MEXICO CITY
Multitude of bold flavours, spices and
colourful dishes! A gastronomic tour of this
North American city should be in your bucket
list this travel season. With a pedigree dating
to pre-Hispanic times, the antojitos (ready-toeat food or street food) at the stalls, tianguis
(open-air market) and taquerias (restaurant
serving tacos) in the sprawling Mexico City
are sure to bowl you over.
MUST-TRY
Meat lovers should not forget to visit the Centro Historico for
the city’s classic street food highlight, ‘tacos al pastor’- one
of the most popular varieties of tacos- stuffed with achiote
marinated pork, diced onion, cilantro and pineapple.

‘must-eat’ food. Moreover, street
food is the lifeblood of Hong Kong.
A mixing pot of Cantonese and
Western food culture, the snake

steaming dumplings.
Another not-to-miss
savoury is fluffy egg
waffle best served in
the busy King’s Road at
North Point.
MUST-TRY

EAST MEETS WEST IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY
A mélange of old and new, tradition and progression, you just can’t skip the Turkish kitchen.
With the ubiquitous food stalls and büfes (street-side snack shops), the street food of
Istanbul is a welcome sight– and smell –for hungry visitors. The labyrinth indoor markets
and narrow lanes of the city throw open an array of delectable go-and-grab eating optionsmenemen (Turkish versions of scrambled eggs), lahmacun or the Turkish pizza, kebabs, simit

REVEL IN THE TASTE OF
AAMCHI MUMBAI, India
While in the quest to satisfy your street food
cravings, how can you miss the scrumptious deals
back home? Nestled in the extreme West by the
sea, Maximum City is a smorgasbord of cooking
styles, flavours and street food that reflect its
cosmopolitan milieu. From the staple quick bite
of every Mumbaikar, the vada pav or the umpteen
chaat varieties like sev puri, ragda pattice, dahi
puri, bhel puri and the list continues.
MUST-TRY
While you grab a vada pav in one hand, do not forget to try
dabeli pav- another popular street-side snack stuffed with
finger-licking ‘dabeli masala’, peanuts, potato, pomegranate
seeds, topped with red chilli and chutney.
MUST-TRY
The Parisian air is undoubtedly filled
with the aroma of its iconic street
savoury, the heavenly Nutella or
chestnut-puree crêpe. So, do try
these especially around Montparnasse in the Latin Quarter and near
the nightclub areas. Fill the thin
pancakes with a tasty combination
like ham and cheese.
PARIS IS PALATABLE, France
Here food is considered an art form. The French capital
is no less one of the culinary capitals of the world.
When in Paris, forget the sit-down style or three-course
meal at bistro for once and overload your senses with
the experience of equally satiating Parisian street food
specialties. Wander around snagging samples of red and
white wines, fresh crêpes with homemade cream, falafels
and baguette sandwiches stuffed with vegetables, thin
meats, and cheese.

OAT ADVANTAGE
Nothing can match the health
quotient of a bowl of oats for a
breakfast or that post workout
snack. Fitness buffs can have
a fistful one hour before their
workout schedule to alter
metabolism and enhance
performance.
• Oatmeal is packed with dietaryfibres and iron
• It lowers blood cholesterol
levels and cuts the risk of type2 diabetes.
• A daily serving of whole oats
can keep a tab on your blood
pressure and ensure smooth
bowel movement.
• Constant intake of oatmeal
reduces the risk of obesity,

KERNEL CONNECTION
It has the bragging rights to
brighten your one of those
dullsville three hours inside the
theatre. Did you know popcorn
can also be the best buddy for
your body?
• Popcorn is a 100 per cent
unprocessed whole grain
which leads to a lean body
• Contains inflammationfighting antioxidants that
lower the incidence of

serious health issues like
heart disease and depression.
• Popcorn delivers
polyphenols that prevent
diseases like osteoporosis,
cancer and diabetes.
The only stipulation: avoid
the microwaveable varieties
and try popping unvarnished
kernels in your own kitchen.
Also, olive oil is a better
substitution to butter for
tossing the popcorn.

BREAD BONANZA
While fatty toppings and wrong
choice of breads can make a
sandwich, a high-fat calorie bomb,
few simple fixes can turn it into an
amazing health food.
• Make fresh tomatoes a mainstay
in your sandwich and seek
protection against breast cancer.
• Red peppers, one of the best
sources of Vitamin C and
olives that aid bad cholesterol
reduction are other healthier
stuffing options.
• A lean protein filling is a rich
source of Vitamin D and omega

• The ‘mushroom’ in mushroom
sandwiches can slow down
tumour growth and stop
advancement of viruses like
hepatitis.
• Go for whole wheat , pita and
multi-grain breads as their
nutrient content can reduce
heart diseases, lower high
cholesterol and blood sugar and
type-2 diabetes..
NATURE’S NURTURE
Fresh vegetable and fruit juices
can help boost immunity and fight
oxidative stress in the body.

kale and green grapes provides a
good dose of iron and Vitamin K.

STARS ON THEIR
THEIR PLATE
Ever wondered what sets our Bollywood stars drooling? Read on to find out more
words
| Samiksha Raj
O
verawed by King Khan’s eight
packs in Happy New Year or
the Nawab Bahu’s size zero
in Tashan? Well, rigorous diet
schedules, intense cardioworkouts and yoga among others are just one
half of the tale when it comes to Bollywood
celebs. In a fitness obsessed industry, if
there’s anything that our Bollywood divas
and machos are to swear by, it has to be the
words of the much decorated playwright,
George Bernard Shaw- “There is no love
sincerer than the love for food.” From exotic
to regular, street side to mom-made, they are
known to enjoy and indulge in all of these on
more than one occasion.
DEEPIKA PADUKONE
FLUFFY FIESTA
This leggy lass with her southIndian upbringing is a die-hard fan
of healthy and low on fat idlis. The
popular Mumbai street-side snack,
sev puri is another turn-on for the
Cocktail star. Deepika is also a sucker
of seafood which she has every day
and also loves Mediterranean cuisine.
From desi to exotic flavours, the
actress has an eclectic palate.
64
PRIYANKA CHOPRA
PIZZAZZ
Think Pee Cee eats like a bird? Well,
here’s a reality check. A self-confessed
foodie, the dusky beauty has a huge
appetite for pizzas, burgers, French
fries and all things junk. Her favourite
pick is a cheese-laden Chicken Burger
which she enjoys going chomp chomp
on and lasagna. Also, being a true-blue
Punjabi, Priyanka adores makke di roti
and sarso da saag.
ANUSHKA SHARMA
Shuddh Desi Romance
Be it Dilli ki kudi, Shruti Kakkar in Band Baaja Baaraat
or her ‘pani-puri’ competition with SRK in Rab Ne Bana
Di Jodi, Anushka Sharma has already given enough
hints of how big a foodie she is. The actress is an avidlover of tangy butter chicken; the one prepared by her
mum is an all-time favourite. She also likes momos, red
velvet cake and has a penchant for Japanese cuisine.

AMITABH BACHCHAN
Bhindi Bazaar
Megastar and the evergreen Shahenshah of
Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan is a desi-foodie.
An Allahabad man through and through, nothing
can whet his appetite on shoot, than a serving of
bhindi sabzi and moong ki dal above other dishes.
Kolkata’s Chinese food and the lip-smacking
chaats on the streets of Lucknow are two of Big B’s
biggest weaknesses which he just can’t resist.
AKSHAY KUMAR
THAI Talkies
For the actor who has already worked as a chef in Thailand,
being struck by the hot, spicy and exotic palate of the Thai was
something bound to happen. The rough and tough Khiladi
bhaiya relishes nothing more than a perfectly cooked dish
of Thai green curry and at times he loves to whip it himself.
Food to him is “life’s most genuine pleasure and tastiest
necessity”. Akshay also lists miso soup, salad, sushi and
sashimi, chocolate fudge cake and all Indian sweets as his
other favourites.

SHAHID KAPUR
Silk Route
A hardcore vegetarian, Chinese and Italian cuisine tickle
the tastebuds of Shahid aka Haider. The chocolate boy
of silver screen not only loves eating but, is a good cook
himself. Shahid prefers to spend the romantic monsoon
evenings binging on fried delicacies like bhajiya,
complete with a hot cup of tea.
SALMAN KHAN
Dawat E Ishq
The eternal love affair between Salman Khan and
biryani has done enough rounds. From making his crew
hunt for chicken biryani during the shoot of Kick to
being known for sharing and serving some of the best
biryanis to his guests, the Bollywood heartthrob just
can’t resist this native savoury. His personal favourite
is the homemade biryani cooked by his mother and he
also loves to gorge on kebabs and modak, besides other
North-Indian and mughlai cuisine.
