VESPERS
MAY 10-14, 2017
Katie Bonnell, Liang Xing PHOTO: Réjean Brandt Photography
We welcome the Spring of 2017 with a new creation based on the
music of Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers. Vespers means “evening
prayer” and for over four hundred years have certainly stood the
test of time. It remains well known to this day - a true testament
to the music’s remarkable power and quality.
Leading this newly commissioned work is internationally
acclaimed choreographer, James Kudelka. One of his wellknown pieces, The Four Seasons made its Winnipeg premiere
during RWB’s 13-14 season. With Vespers, we look forward to
seeing how Kudelka will combine dramatic atmospheres with
creative classical ballet technique and contemporary styles and
perspectives on relationships, nature and the spiritual world.
