COURSE CATALOG 2015–2016 The new citywide Jewish educational program for teens in grades 9–12 Yachad Catalog 2015–2016 1 “Yachad” is the Hebrew word for together and combines 9–12th graders from across Minneapolis. Yachad is open to teens who are affiliated with Reform, Conservative, and Modern Orthodox synagogues from across Minneapolis, as well as teens who are not affiliated with a synagogue. Yachad is the teen educational program for: Welcome to Yachad! Yachad has been a dream of the Minneapolis Jewish community for almost ten years. This dream began with two rabbis over a cup of coffee. Our community has created and built this amazing program for and by teens. Yachad brings together the best that our community has to offer to provide transformational experiences for our teens. Through Yachad’s dynamic and engaging environment, teens will grow along their own pathway as they continue along their Jewish journeys. In partnership with: A special thank you to our local clergy and their representative Brit Signer organizations (listed to the right) for their leadership, partnership, and vision to build a program for teens where we will be better together. Yachad’s mission is to provide the next generation with the knowledge, connection and confidence to engage in Judaism over the course of their lifetimes. We believe our innovative approach will be important as teens transition from high school to college and eventually to independent adulthood. Yachad’s model will recreate and enrich existing educational offerings through: • Curriculum Variety and Options Providing a wide range of subjects and course structures, including offerings for college credit. • Educational Best Practices Engaging students using methodologies which both deepen and accelerate learning. • Smaller Class Sizes Combining resources to allow for a smaller student/teacher ratio. • Community — Everyone’s Welcome Bringing together teens from across Minneapolis to create a new social context. • Self-Determined Jewish Educational Journeys Empowering teens to be accountable for their own Jewish journeys.
