Sydney Harbour National Landscape immerses visitors in the contrasting and spellbinding
scenery, culture and personality of Australia. It features Aboriginal cultural heritage, lively
terrestrial and marine environments, journeys into Australia’s convict history and a coastline
of world famous beaches.
How to get there:
Sydney is well serviced by domestic and international flights from destinations across the
world. The Sydney Harbour National Landscape stretches from Royal National Park in the
south to Barrenjoey Headland, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park in the north and west to
Parramatta Park. At the centre of the landscape is Sydney Harbour National Park. Access the
central and western parts of the landscape by boat; regular ferry services operate in Port
Jackson across to Manly and west along the Parramatta River. The northern and southern
parts of the landscape are best accessed by guided tour or private vehicle.
Things to experience:
• Stroll along the harbour foreshore and explore the Royal Botanic Garden.
• Cruise the sparkling waters of Sydney Harbour on a ferry, cruise boat or tall ship.
• Kayak the many waterways and inlets to discover enchanting bays and secluded beaches.
• Camp overnight on Cockatoo Island and watch the city light up the night.
Kayaking, Port Jackson
•Discover the rich Aboriginal cultural heritage of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on a
guided Aboriginal Discovery tour.
• Take a tour of the military fortifications at Middle Head.
• Spend the night at the historic Quarantine Station (Q Station) at North Head.
• Watch for whales on their annual winter migration from the headlands.
• Wake to the sounds of elephants trumpeting at Taronga Zoo’s Roar & Snore.
• Cool off with a swim in the surf at iconic beaches such as Manly and Bondi.
• Head to Parramatta to stroll the Riverside Walk, explore Parramatta Park and visit Old
Government House.
Coast Track, Royal National Park
• Trek along the cliffs, beaches and escarpments of the Coast Track in Royal National Park
taking in the rugged coastline and ocean views.
•Dive the Gordon’s Bay Underwater Nature Trail or snorkel with ‘Bluey’ at Clovelly Beach.
• See Aboriginal rock engravings along the Bronte to Bondi section of the Great Coastal
Walk or at Balls Head.
• Meet some of Australia’s wildlife at Wild Life Sydney, Sydney Aquarium or Taronga Zoo.
•Explore 35 kilometres of cycleways and discover the State heritage-listed Newington
Armory precinct at Sydney Olympic Park.
