INTRODUCTION & WELCOME
AHLA UPDATE
The lovely Sister Myotis made a few comments
on the importance of budgeting debt ceilings,
government per diems, travel tourism strategies
& stimulating the economy. Amen Memphis! she
says!
No surprise that Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the AHLA, Kevin Maher, spoke
about government affairs. Yes, if you want tourists
coming you need a strategy. And, by the way,
international travelers stay longer & spend more!

Elvis Week & our best Lodging Summit
ever! Who could ask for a better lead-in
to . . . Fall & Football!
Can you believe that we are fast approaching Fall! Fall officially starts
September 22, but since I put everything
in categories, in my mind, football literally kicks off Fall. So if we are playing
football, it must be Fall! Another way
that I look at the year is by events. We
had a blast at Trivia Night; a great golf
tournament; Fourth of July fireworks
were spectacular; Elvis Week was awesome; and our 10th annual Southern
Lodging Summit was a HUGE success. (and somewhere between Elvis
Week and the Summit—school started.)
So again, Fall is just around the corner. Slow down and take some time to
enjoy this Fall—plan a day or overnight
trip for the beautiful autumn colors or
to visit one of the many Fall festivals.
Regardless of what you enjoy doing—
relax, unwind and spend time with your
family or a loved one. You be the guest
for a change. Not only will the results
be a refreshed you, but you will get
to see the other side of our hospitality
industry—from our guests’ prospective.

Don’t you just love being a guest instead of the host!!
Speaking about the Summit, not only was it a success, but the comments have consistently been that it was the
best ever. So Summit Committee, thanks once again. The committee’s success has raised the bar once more—so
what do we do next year to top this year? Put your thinking hats on because before you know it, we will have our
first meeting and great things are expected from this committee!
Labor day was celebrated on September 3rd, but please don’t forget to compliment
your staff for a job well done!
Most of our staff worked Labor
Day doing what we always
do—taking care of business.
We are an industry where we
work when everyone else plays,
and we never close. So just a
smile and a thank you should
be on top of your to do list
this week. Hope to see you
