Preface
About CubeMaster
Congratulations on purchasing CubeMaster, a 3D graphic-based simulation program that optimizes the
packing and loading problem in the Supply Chain. This provides the various and cost-effective solutions for
the loading of pallet, truck and pallet on the basis of the high-tech research and a lot of site experience. In
addition, this provides the optimal loading pattern through the intelligent simulation and the standardized
workflow through the best practice.

User's Guide to assist you with every possible issue or question you might have.

Terminology
The terms that are often used in the program may be described here.
Container: All actual vessels or spaces will be called as “container” including the carton, pallet, truck, sea
van and air container, etc. They have the three dimensional length on each axes (x, y, z) called the length,
width and height and they form a rectangular parallelepiped.
SKU: SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) originally means the basic handling unit for stock and delivery. However,
this term is, in CubeMaster, will be defined as the basic object to be loaded in a container during the
simulation. If one product has the specification data on the fixed length * width * height, this can be identified
as SKU. A pallet with several cartons stacked on it will be used as SKU also, where its dimension will be the
size of outside of the pallet.
Net Weight: The net weight of the product.
Gross Weight: The gross weight of the product. It includes the weight of the packaging materials (pallet,
corrugated cardboard and reinforcing agent, etc.)
CBM (Cubic Meters): This is the unit into that the arithmetic volume is converted in meter. The length,
width and height of the product multiply with each other and then are notated in meter for ease. This unit is
widely used to calculate the freight rates for the loading onto the ship or aircraft. In case of the general sea
container for the export, a 20FT container has the dimension of 2.35m x 5.89m x 2.39m(length x width x
height) and a 40FT container 2.35m x 12.03m x 2.39m (the different makers can make different container
types), which multiply into 33CBM for the 20FT container and 67CBM for the 40FT container.
Corner Castings : This is the structure attached onto ceil of the sea van for the crane lifting. Its 3 dimension
should be defined with container together when a load data is defined before running the simulation.

Load Orientations: This is one of the directions of the SKU that is earthed to the bottom of the container. In
case of the rectangular parallelepiped SKU, 6 directions can be used. The user can take 4 turning directions as
well as 2 basic directions.

Loaded Container: This is a result of the simulation. It is a container filled with several SKUs and several
empty spaces where the SKU does not occupy. This will be shown at the container list with the column of the
container name, the number of SKU loaded in the container and the volume efficiency, etc.
Unused Space: This is the 3D space where SKU is not located in the container. In order to maximize the
loading efficiency of the container under the given constraints, it is inevitable to make some unused spaces.
Simulation Workflow
CubeMaster provides five task views. They have independent functions and are linked each view. You should
understand the simulation workflow in order to understand these views.
Simulation workflow is defined as the sequential chain of the steps as below.

These steps are implemented through five task views.

Getting Started
System Requirements/Specifications
To install and run CubeMaster software, your system needs to meet the following requirements:
ƒ
Platform: Windows 2000, NT, XP (Windows 95, ME, 98 is NOT available)
ƒ
Network: Any network is compatible. CubeMaster2003 is not network protocol dependent; it only
needs a file server.
ƒ
Processor Required: Any processor capable of running the installed platform (200 MHz
Recommended).
ƒ
Hard Disk Space Required: 30 MB
ƒ
RAM Required: 16 MB (32 MB or more Recommended)
ƒ
Video Required: 800 x 600 at 256 colors or higher (1024 x 768 Recommended)
CubeMaster software uses 32-bit code. For import/export of data, CubeMaster uses ASCII comma delimited
text files compatible with most document management systems, spreadsheets, databases and mainframes,
including Excel, Access, Paradox, AS400 and UNIX platforms.
Starting CubeMaster
Installing the Program
The following instructions describe how to install CubeMaster on your PC.
ƒ
Insert the installation CD into your driver
ƒ
Click [start] menu at task bar and select [Run] menu
ƒ
Enter the following command and press enter key.
[Your CD driver name]:\\CubeMasterSetup.exe
ƒ
Or locate the file – CubeMasterSetup.exe from the windows explorer and launch the program by
double click the left button of your mouse or press the enter key at your keyboard.
ƒ
You will meet the below screen displaying the information of installation guide. Just follow the
guide of the program to install CubeMaster.

Installing the Hardware Lock key Driver
You should install the driver for hardware lock key in case the hardware lock key is the parallel type and your
operating system is Windows NT/2000 also.
ƒ
Enter the following command and press enter key.
[Your CD driver name]:\\SetupLockkeyDriver.exe
ƒ
Just follow the guide of the program to install it.
Starting the Program
Before launching the program you may need to insert the hardware lock key into the printer port or USB
port at your computer.

After then click [Start] menu at task bar and select [Program] menu and select [CubeMaster Desktop] from
[VMS] in order to start the program.

Troubleshooting
ERROR MESSAGE WHEN LOCK KEY IS MISSING ON THE PROGRAM STARTING.

CubeMaster requires the hardware lock key installed at the computer to verify the license.This screen may
appear when you didn’t insert the lock key into the USB port at your computer. You may need to insert it to
make CubeMaster start correctly.

The Basics
In this chapter, the basic configuration of CubeMaster will be described.
Common Features
CubeMaster has similar interfaces as Microsoft Outlook Express. It provides rich ways for you to handle the
simulations workflow including entering load data, running simulation and retrieving results of the simulation.
The following picture gives conceptual view of the structure of interfaces. You can see the several bars and
task-view area that will be occupied by five task views. The task views are activated by clicking the icons in
Task Bar at left of the program.

Menu Bar: This is composed of the classified functions for the user’s convenience. If each menu selected,
the sub-menu will appear. And if the desired item selected, the item will execute the command.
Tool Bar: The menu items used commonly will be shown in the form of icon.

Task Bar: It contains the shortcut icons to five task views.
Task-view Area: It will be occupied by five task views.
Tab System: CubeMaster uses tabs throughout the system. Tabs allow you to quickly and easily switch back
and forth between different data entry areas or sub-screens.

Open an Existing Simulation
Use one of two options in order to open an existing simulation.
x
Open the [File] menu and select [Open].
x
Go to the Today view, select a file name to open and click [Open] button.
Start New Simulation
Use one of two options in order to start a new simulation.
x
Open the [File] menu and select [New].
x
Go to the Today view and click [New] button.
Exit the Program
In order to exit CubeMaster, open the [File] menu and select [Exit]. If you’ve made any changes since you
last saved the active file, CubeMaster prompts you to save the file. If you need to save any changes, click
[Yes]. CubeMaster saves your changes and shuts down the system.

Define Databases
Introduction
As you set up the CubeMaster system and prepare to use it in your daily operations, one of the most critical
functions is setting up the various databases. CubeMaster uses a local database “C:\Program Files\Common
Files\VMS Shared\Database\VMSDB2008.mdb” that is in the format of Microsoft Access 2003.
Before we begin this chapter, it is important to remember one critical fact:
A computer does not think like a human. Therefore, it's imperative that all inputs and measurements be
precise. For example, think of a space as tiny as 1/16 of an inch. While you and I may think nothing of such a
small number, and certainly would not think it could affect the way a truck is loaded, CubeMaster thinks
otherwise.
For a computer, everything is “black and white.” An object will either fit or it won’t. Let’s take a truck that is
99” wide. Suppose you want to place three refrigerators side by side across the nose of the truck; each
refrigerator is 331/16” wide. A quick calculation shows that 3 × 331/16 equals 993/16, which is greater than
99”.
Therefore, CubeMaster will not place these refrigerators side by side. If you ever run across a situation like
this, double-check the dimensions of both your truck and your SKU. Are they exact dimensions? Also,
remember that humans may tolerate a “fudge factor.” Perhaps the person loading the truck will make these
refrigerators fit. CubeMaster, however, will not.
When you define databases in the CubeMaster system, you'll always start with the Database view. Use one of
two options in order to open this view.

Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) Databases
A Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) is defined as any object that you will load into a vehicle, onto a pallet, or into a
tote. CubeMaster currently gives you the option of defining two types of SKU’s: Shipcases and PalletLoads.
The SKU Database view allows you to define a new SKU or modify an existing SKU. In this view, you enter
SKU parameters and save it to the SKU database. Start from the Task Bar and click the Database menu and
select SKU.
System Response: The SKU Database view appears, as pictured below.

The SKU Database view is comprised of the following components:
x
New Button: Allows you to define a new SKU.
x
Delete Button: Allows you to delete SKUs from the database. This button will be activated on when
you select more than one SKU at the SKU List. In order to make a selection, click a row header of
the leftmost column at the list and drag the mouse to the end of range. The list will highlight the
range and the button activates.
x
Append External Button: Allows you to import SKUs from another system to the local database of
CubeMaster.
x
SKU List: Displays a list of all SKU’s existing in the database. It allows you to modify the
parameters of SKU and saves the changes to the database automatically.
SKU LIST
When you click on a SKU data, a black bar highlights it. The gray vertical scroll bar to the right of the box
scrolls the database list and allows you to view more SKU’s. The scroll bar will take you to the bottom of the
list or to the top of the list. When you click on a cell, a black color highlights it and be ready for you to enter a
new value. If you enter a return key when you complete to type a value, the right cell will gain the highlight
again.
This list contains useful information about the SKU. All of this information is designed to help you make
quick and easy decisions about the items you’re shipping.

Group Name: This column contains the group name of SKU.
x
Name: This column contains the SKU name.
x
Length, Width and Height: This columns display the dimensions of each SKU. The dimensions will
appear either in English or Metric units, depending on which units are selected in the Toolbar.
x
Weight: This column displays the defined weight of each SKU. As with the dimensions columns,
this column will either appear in English or Metric units, depending on which units are selected in
the Toolbar.
x
Volume: This column displays the volume of each SKU. The volume is calculated automatically
from the dimensions whenever you change them thus you are not allowed changing it. It will
appear either in English or Metric units, depending on which units are selected in the Toolbar.
x
Color: This column displays the color of each SKU. Click on this column to display the Color
Selection dialog box. CubeMaster uses the standard (48-color) Windows Color Selection dialog
box, which allows you to select a custom color for each SKU.
x
Seq.: This column displays the load sequence of each SKU. The load sequence allows you to define
the relative importance of a particular SKU when loading into a vehicle. Please note that you
should activate the Load Sequence rule at the More Rule window even you defined this parameter.
All SKU’s with a sequence of “1” will be loaded before SKU’s with a sequence of “2,” which are
loaded before SKU’s with a sequence of “3,” and so on. This means that all SKU’s with a sequence
of “1” will generally be loaded before (and therefore in the front of the vehicle) SKU’s with a
higher sequence value.
If there's not enough room to load all SKU’s with a particular sequence value, CubeMaster will
load as much of the sequence as possible, leaving the remaining SKU’s. In other words, sequence
can be split-up.
x
Stack Value: This column displays the stack value of each SKU. The stack value allows you to
define the relative stacking position onto a vehicle. Please note that you should activate the
Stacking rule at the More Rule window even you defined this parameter.
All SKU’s with a stack value of “1” will be stacked on SKU’s with a stack value “2,” which are
stacked on SKU’s with a stack value of “3,” and so on. This means that all SKU’s with a stack
value of “1” will generally be stacked on (and therefore in the front of the vehicle) SKU’s with a
higher stack value.
Modify an exiting SKU
To modify an existing SKU, follow these instructions;
1.
Select a row of the SKU you want to modify
2.
Modify information of each cell as you necessary
3.
Whenever you leave each cell after modifying it, CubeMaster saves the changes to the SKU
database automatically
Define a new SKU
To define a new SKU, follow these instructions;
1.
Click the New button
System Response: A new row is appended at the bottom of the list and the focus locates on the
Name cell
2.
Modify information of each cell as you necessary
3.
Whenever you leave each cell after modifying it, CubeMaster saves the changes to the SKU
database automatically

Delete an SKU from the database
To delete an existing SKU, follow these instructions;
1.
Select rows of the SKUs you want to delete
2.
Click the row-number heads to highlight the rows
System Response: The Delete button is activated
3.
Click the Delete button
System Response: The selected rows are deleted from the database and removed from the list
Import SKUs FROM another system
To import SKU data from another system, follow these instructions;
1.
Click the Import External button
System Response: A message window prompts you to confirm the command as the following
picture. If you confirm it, the SKU Data Source window appears and allows you to choose a data
source type where to import from.

Click the OK button to close the window
System Response: CubeMaster imports SKUs from the selected data source and saves them to the
SKU database

Carton Databases
A carton is defined as shipcase, tote or corrugated box that you will fill with SKUs.
The Carton Database view allows you to define a new carton or modify an existing carton. In this view, you
enter carton parameters and save it to the carton database. Start from the Task Bar and click the Database
menu and select Carton.
System Response: The Carton Database view appears.
The Carton Database view is comprised of the following components:

New Button: Allows you to define a new carton.

Delete Button: Allows you to delete cartons from the database. This button will be activated on
when you select more than one carton at the Carton List. In order to make a selection, click a row
header of the leftmost column at the list and drag the mouse to the end of range. The list will
highlight the range and the button activates.

Carton List: Displays a list of all cartons existing in the database. It allows you to modify the
parameters of carton and saves the changes to the database automatically.
Carton List

quick and easy decisions about the container you’re loading.

Define a new Carton
To define a new carton, follow these instructions;
1.
Click the New button
System Response: A new row is appended at the bottom of the list and the focus locates on the
Name cell

Modify information of each cell as you necessary
3.
Whenever you leave each cell after modifying it, CubeMaster saves the changes to the carton
database automatically
Delete an carton from the database
To delete an existing carton, follow these instructions;
1.
Select rows of the carton you want to delete
2.
Click the row-number heads to highlight the rows
System Response: The Delete button is activated
3.
Click the Delete button
System Response: The selected rows are deleted from the database and removed from the list

Pallet Databases
The Pallet Database view allows you to define a new pallet or modify an existing pallet. In this view, you
enter pallet parameters and save it to the pallet database. Start from the Task Bar and click the Database menu
and select Pallet.
System Response: The Pallet Database view appears.
The Pallet Database view is comprised of the following components:

New Button: Allows you to define a new pallet.

Max Height: This column displays the max height including the thickness of each pallet. As with
the dimensions columns, this column will either appear in English or Metric units, depending on
which units are selected in the Toolbar.

Weight: This column displays the defined weight of each pallet. As with the dimensions columns,
this column will either appear in English or Metric units, depending on which units are selected in
the Toolbar.
x
Max Weight: This column displays the max weight of each pallet. As with the dimensions columns,
this column will either appear in English or Metric units, depending on which units are selected in
the Toolbar.
x
Color: This column displays the color of each pallet. Click on this column to display the Color
Selection dialog box. CubeMaster uses the standard (48-color) Windows Color Selection dialog

Truck Databases
The Truck Database view allows you to define a new truck or modify an existing truck. In this view, you
enter truck parameters and save it to the truck database. Start from the Task Bar and click the Database menu
and select Truck.

The Truck Database view is comprised of the following components:

New Button: Allows you to define a new truck.

Delete Button: Allows you to delete trucks from the database. This button will be activated on when
you select more than one truck at the Truck List. In order to make a selection, click a row header of
the leftmost column at the list and drag the mouse to the end of range. The list will highlight the
range and the button activates.

Truck List: Displays a list of all trucks existing in the database. It allows you to modify the
parameters of truck and saves the changes to the database automatically.

When you click on a truck data, a black bar highlights it. The gray vertical scroll bar to the right of the box
scrolls the database list and allows you to view more trucks. The scroll bar will take you to the bottom of the
list or to the top of the list. When you click on a cell, a black color highlights it and be ready for you to enter a
new value. If you enter a return key when you complete to type a value, the right cell will gain the highlight
again.
This list contains useful information about the truck.

Define Button: This column allows you to define more parameters of truck.

Sea Van Databases
The Sea Van Database view allows you to define a new sea van or modify an existing sea van. In this view,

ULD Databases
A ULS is defined as Unitload Device or air pallet that you will fill with SKUs.
The ULD Database view allows you to define a new ULD or modify an existing ULD. In this view, you enter
ULD parameters and save it to the ULD database. Start from the Task Bar and click the Database menu and
select ULD.

Define Simulation
Introduction
This chapter explains how to use CubeMaster to define a simulation.
Note: Be aware that you'll see different screens depending on the simulation type you selected from the
Simulation Type window even this chapter explains the Sea Van simulation.
Open the Setup View
Use one of three options in order to open this view.

Select a simulation type from the Simulation Type window after click the Start button on the Today
View
x
Open the View menu and select Setup.

From the Task List, click Setup button.

Structure of Setup View
With the setup view displayed, you’re ready to begin defining the components of a new simulation. This view
is the basis for collecting data for building a new simulation. The setup view is comprised of the following
components:

Buttons Group: Allows you to perform command for the simulation.

Step 1: General Data Group: Allows you to enter title, description and shipping information for the
simulation.
ƒ
Step 2: Sea Van Group: Allows you to define the types of sea vans to be used for the simulation. As
you add new sea vans by click Add button, they will automatically appear in the sea van list.

Step 3: SKU List Group: Displays the running list of all SKUs to be loaded into the sea vans. As
you add new SKUs by click Add button, they will automatically appear in the SKU list.
Buttons Group
The Buttons Group, pictured below, allows you to perform commands for the simulation.

Load Type Selection Box: Allows you to select the load type to be used for the simulation. For
more about the load type, refer the Load Type chapter of CubeMaster Whitepaper.
System Response: The columns layout of the Sea Van and SKU list are changed based on the
selected load type.

Run Button: Allows you to run the simulation. Once you've keyed in all of the necessary parameters
in the screen, click this button.
System Response: The system tries to find the solutions by running the simulation. The Solutions
View appears after the run. If the run is successful, each part of the view is filled with information of
solutions. Otherwise the view shows empty screen except the Log List that shows error message
raised during the run.
ƒ
View Solutions Button Allows you to view a load without recalculating it.
System Response: The Solutions View appears.
ƒ
Advanced Button: Allows you to perform advanced actions such as movement to different task
views, export the simulation and define shipping information of the simulation.
Step 1: General Data Group
The General Data group, pictured below, allows you to enter a title and description which will identify the
current simulation. These will be shown in the document list in the Today view and all reports generated in
the Report view. This group allows also you to define shipping information of the current simulation
including profiles of the orientation/destination and date of shipment.

Step 2: Sea Van Group
The Sea Van group, pictured below, allows you to define the type and options of sea vans that will be used
for the simulation. Please note that “20 Feet Dry Container” is inserted automatically at the Sea Van List
when you start a new simulation.

Auto Qty. Check the box to turn off the Qty and Seq. columns in the Sea Van List. When you turn
off this column, you can designate the number and sequence of sea vans to be automatically
determined.

Sea Van List: Displays a list of all sea vans that have been selected from the Sea Van Database
window. When CubeMaster calculates solutions for a simulation, it uses only those sea van(s) listed
in this list.

Step 3: SKU List Group
The SKU List Group, as pictured below, allows you to define the running list of SKUs and rules that will be
used for the simulation.

Keep Same Group Together Check Box: Check the box to turn on the Group Name column in the
SKU List.

Load By Sequence Check Box: Check the box to turn on the Seq. column in the SKU List.

Floor Stack Check Box: Check the box to turn on the Floor Stack columns in the SKU List.
ƒ
Unitize Check Box: Check the box to turn on the Mixed Pallet Define button and Unitize columns
in the SKU List.

More Rules Button: This button displays the Simulation Rules dialog box, which allows you to
determine how CubeMaster will load sea vans. For more about the simulation rules, refer the
Simulation Rules section of the CubeMaster Whitepapers.
ƒ
Add Button: Allows you to add new SKU to the SKU List.
ƒ
Remove Button: Allows you to remove existing SKU from the SKU List. Activate this button by
click more than one row-head of the SKU List and click this button to remove the selected SKUs
from the list.
ƒ
Columns Button: Allow you to define the columns configuration of the SKU List.
ƒ
SKU List: Displays a list of all SKU’s (shipcases, palletloads, etc.) you've defined to be loaded into
the sea van. As you add new SKUs from the Add Button, they will automatically appear in this list.
This list allows you to define specifics about the load; it contains both input fields and checkboxes
that help tailor this load to your particular needs.
Group Name: This column appears only if the Keep Same Group Together checkbox is on or Load
Type is the Multiple Set Load. You have the option of assigning a group name or an order number
to each SKU or group of SKU’s that you ship. This column simply provides information that may
be useful to your logistics staff. Information keyed into this field will be available on certain
printouts, which in turn can be used when loading the vehicle or pallet.

You're not required to enter information in this field. If you choose to ignore this field, simply do
not change the default value of blank. On the Rules dialog window, you can then tell CubeMaster to
keep items within the same order or group together. If you do not use group, you can leave this field
empty and CubeMaster will not consider groups at all.
x
Name: This column contains the SKU name.
x
Qty.: Enter the quantity of the SKU that you want to ship. If you choose to load a pre-pack unitload,
the quantity will represent the number of unitloads.
x
Length, Width and Height: This columns display the dimensions of each SKU. The dimensions will
appear either in English or Metric units, depending on which units are selected in the Toolbar.
x
Weight: This column displays the defined weight of each SKU. As with the dimensions columns,
this column will either appear in English or Metric units, depending on which units are selected in
the Toolbar.
x
Volume: This column displays the volume of each SKU. The volume is calculated automatically
from the dimensions whenever you change them thus you are not allowed changing it. It will
appear either in English or Metric units, depending on which units are selected in the Toolbar.
x
Unitize: Allows you to place an SKU onto a unitload “on the fly.” If you've previously created a
unitload for this particular SKU, you can simply activate this checkbox and move on to the next
field. CubeMaster will load these SKU’s using the pallet pattern you selected in the Unit Load tab
of the SKU Properties window when you defined the SKU.
Checking this box does not guarantee that all SKU’s will be loaded as part of a unitload. How it is
loaded will depend on the number of SKU’s that make up a complete unitload as defined in the
Unit Load tab of the SKU Properties window.
For example, suppose you've created a unitload that consists of 44 cases of peanut butter. If you
want to load 88 cases of peanut butter, CubeMaster will load all cases onto two complete unitloads.
However, if your order calls for 70 cases of peanut butter, CubeMater will load one complete
unitload (44 cases), and will either load the remaining 26 cases on the floor or as part of a mixedpallet (if the Mixed Pallet is defined).
x
Color: This column displays the color of each SKU. Click on this column to display the Color
Selection dialog box. CubeMaster uses the standard (48-color) Windows Color Selection dialog
box, which allows you to select a custom color for each SKU.
x
Seq.: This column appears only if the Load By Sequence checkbox is on. This column displays the
load sequence of each SKU. The load sequence allows you to define the relative importance of a
particular SKU when loading into a vehicle. Please note that you should activate the Load
Sequence rule at the More Rule window even you defined this parameter.
All SKU’s with a sequence of “1” will be loaded before SKU’s with a sequence of “2,” which are
loaded before SKU’s with a sequence of “3,” and so on. This means that all SKU’s with a sequence
of “1” will generally be loaded before (and therefore in the front of the vehicle) SKU’s with a
higher sequence value.
If there's not enough room to load all SKU’s with a particular sequence value, CubeMaster will
load as much of the sequence as possible, leaving the remaining SKU’s. In other words, sequence
can be split-up.
x
Floor Stack: This column appears only if the Floor Stack checkbox is on. This columns display the
floor stack rules of each SKU. They allow you to define the relative stacking position onto a vehicle.

Define Database Button: Allow you to define the SKU database from the SKU Database View.
System Response: The Sea Van Database View appears.

Add SKUs to the Simulation
The Add Button in the SKU List Group allows you to add new SKUs to the SKU List by selecting data from
the SKU Database, importing from CSV/Excel sheet, defining a new SKU or loading pre-pack unitloads
from a previously saved file.
Select from SKU Database
If you click From Database menu under the Add button in the Step 3: SKU List or press F2 key, you will be
allowed to add SKUs from the SKU database. The SKU database window, as pictured below, displays a list
of all SKU’s (shipcases, palletloads, etc.) you've defined in the SKU database view. All SKU’s in this list are
available for loading into a vehicle, onto a pallet or into a tote. SKU’s will automatically appear in this list as
they are defined.

When you click on an SKU, a black bar highlights it. The gray vertical scroll bar to the right of the box scrolls
the database list and allows you to view more SKU’s. The scroll bar will take you to the bottom of the list or
to the top of the list.
When you click the Add to SKU List Button, CubeMaster automatically places the SKU in the SKU List.
You can also select SKUs from other data types such as Excel, XML, OLEDB and MDB by selecting the
new data source. To do this, click the New Data Source button. For more about to select the data source,
please refer the next section “Select Data Source.” The default data source is a local database in the form of
the Microsoft Access 2007 which was created at your hard disk during the installation. If you like to define
this database, use the Database View.
To search certain SKU in the list, use the Search field. When you enter a name into this field, the list scrolls
automatically to the rows having the most likely SKUs. To change the target column, select another column
from the Column selection box.

If you like the selected SKUs to have the same Group Name, click the Let selected SKUs have same Group
Name button and enter a group name into the Group Name edit box.
To close the window, click the Close button.
Import from External Database
If you like to import SKUs data from an external database such as an Excel, CSV, RDBMS or XML, you
need to define a new data source. The data source is a file, storage or connection with SQL where the data is
queried automatically when the SKU Database Dialog opens. The default data source is a Microsoft Access
2007 file “C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMS Shared\Database\VMSDB2008.mdb” which was created
during the installation.
To define new data source, use the SKU Data Source dialog as pictured below. To display this screen, follow
this instruction.

Click [Setup View] – [SKU List] Tab – [Add] – [From Database] – [New Data Source] and show
the [SKU Data Source] dialog

The available data sources in the SKU Data Source dialog are as below.

Default database (MS Access 2007): This source is a local MDB file. To determine this as current
data source, activate the [Default database] check box and enter the file name, where you will
browse from, into the field at below of the check box. The default filename is ‘C:\Program
Files\Common Files\VMS Shared\Database\VMSDB2008.mdb’, which was created during the
installation of the program.
ƒ
Predefined MS-Excel file: This source is a local Excel file with pre-defined columns. To determine
this as current data source, activate the [Predefined MS-Excel file] check box and enter the file
name, where you will browse from, into the field at below of the check box. The default filename is
‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMS Shared\Doc\Packages.xls’, which was created during the

installation of the program. You can use this file for your data exchange from your legacy to the
program. For more detail about to importing the data from Excel file, please refer the next section
[Import from Pre-defined Excel File].

Customized Excel or CSV file: This source is a local Excel or CSV file where you can define
columns as yourself. To determine this as current data source, activate the [Predefined MS-Excel
file] check box and enter the file name, where you will browse from, into the field at below of the
check box. The default filename is ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMS
Shared\Doc\Packages.xls’, which was created during the installation of the program. You will use
this file for your data exchange from your legacy to the program. For more detail about to importing
the data from Excel file, please refer the next section [Import from Customized Excel or CSV File].
ƒ
Query (OLEDB): This source is an OLEDB. To determine this as current data source, activate the
[Query (OLEDB)] check box and enter the statement of connection and SQL into the field
[Connections] and [SQL] respectively.
The connection statement should contain the provider of the OLEDB data source which points to
the database name where your legacy data exists. The default connection is
“Provider=SQLOLEDB.1; Persist Security Info=False; User ID=sa; PWD=logens; Initial
Catalog=CubeMaster2006; Data Source=www.logen.co.kr”, which points to the sample database
created already at the Logen Solutions data server.
The default statement is “select name as name, alias as alias, alias2 as alias2, groupname as
groupname, length as length, width as width, height as height, weight as weight, qty as qty, loaddir
as loaddir, loadtype as loadtype, color as color from VMS_SKU order by name” which queries
SKU data from the connection. Here in the statement, the field name (or its alias) should be the
same as reserved one. The reserved field names are summarized at following table.

from a file. And if you click the [Save Query] button, the current connections and SQL statement

XML file: This source is a XML. To determine this as current data source, activate the [Browse
from XML file] check box and enter the file name or URL, where you will browse from, into the
field at below of the check box. The default URL is ‘http://www.Logen.co.kr/VMS/SolverTrial/
PackageListBasic.xml’, which exists on the remote web server at Logen Solution and the server will
publish the data of packages when the program request.
Define a New SKU
If you click New Row menu under the Add button in the Step 3: SKU List or press Insert key, you will be
allowed to define a new SKUs. A new row in the SKU List, as pictured below, is created and enables you to
enter properties for the new SKU.

Add Unitloads as New SKUs
If you click Pre-pack Unitloads menu under the Add button in the Step 3: SKU List or press Insert key, you
will be allowed to add unitloads as new SKUs to the simulation. A File Open window displays a list of
unitloads files, which you’ve created already, in the current folder. If you don’t find your files at all, please
move to new folder. When you click a file or select multiples files in the window and press Ok button,
CubeMaster automatically places the unitloads in the SKU List as picture below.

Import from Customized Excel or CSV File
If you click From Excel or CSV File menu under the Add button in the Step 3: SKU List or press F3 key, you
will be allowed to import SKUs from an Excel or CSV file. The Import Customized Excel or CSV File
window, as pictured below, enables you to provide the name of Excel or CSV file, define columns in the file,
preview the definitions and import from the file.

View Solutions
Introduction
This chapter discusses the various ways in which you can view a completed simulation. You will learn ways
to progressively load or unload the vehicle to see how the load is constructed. Though the process of building
the various types of simulation is dramatically different, the options provided when viewing a solution are
generally quite similar.
The majority of what we discuss in this chapter applies to the solutions calculated when building all four
simulation types. Any differences will be highlighted.
To view a load, follow these instructions:
Once you've keyed in all of the necessary parameters in the Setup View, click the Run button or press F5 key.
If the load has been previously calculated, click the View Solution button. This saves time and computer
resources by simply redrawing what has already been calculated, rather than recalculating the solution.
System Response: The Solutions View appears, as pictured at the next chapter.
Solutions View Screen
The CubeMaster Solutions View screen, as pictured below, contains the primary results of your loaded
manifests. This screen includes both the loading diagram and all information associated with the manifest.

Overview window
This window shows an overview of simple statistic summary and the solution list generated from the run of
simulation. The Overview includes the number of the used (loaded) and unused SKUs, and the number of the
solutions found. The Solutions List shows all the solutions created through the simulation. This list includes
eight columns as below;

Name: Displays the name of the solution and allows you to modify it.
ƒ
Loaded: Displays the number of SKUs in the solution.
ƒ
Volume Efficiency: The volume efficiency of solution. The volume efficiency means the
percentage of the total volume of all loaded SKUs to the volume of the container.
ƒ
Weight: The weight of the loaded container in the solution. This equals to the total weight of all
loaded SKUs plus the container itself.
ƒ
Volume: The total volume of the all loaded SKUs in the loaded container.
ƒ
Container Type: The name of the sea van type used.
ƒ
Description: The description of the solution. To modify the description, double-click the cell and
enter new description.
To see the graphics of solution in the list, click a row of the list. The Graphics Window will display the
graphics of the selected solution promptly.
Graphics window
This window displays the diagram of loaded container or the load blocks that was selected at the Solutions
List in the Overview Window. In order to make further function, right-click your mouse button on this
window. It will show up the shortcut menu.
The descriptions of each item in the menu are;

3D Solid: The 3D solid graphic will display
ƒ
3D Transparent: The 3D transparent graphic will display

3D Weight Distribution: The 3D weight distribution graphic will display

2D of…: The 2D graphic will display. The available graphics are 6 types of plane view, layered
view and 90o rotated layer view.

Show Load List: This command show or hide the load list at the bottom of the graphic. The load list
tells you “How many SKUs were loaded in this container?”.

Show Dimension on Load List: This command show or hide the dimension of SKU in the load list.
ƒ
Show Annotations: This command shows or hides the annotations in the graphic together. You can
enter an annotation to each unused space at [Analysis] view.

Show Measurement Scale: This command shows or hides the measurement scale of the unused
space.
ƒ
Show Sub Graphics: This command shows or hides the thumbnails on the right side. If you click the
one thumbnail, the large graphic will be shown in the main graphic area.

Show Group Color: This command changes/restores the color of the loading block to/from the
group color. Basically the color of the loading block is the same with the type of SKU. However if
you like to differentiate the loading block in a level of group not SKU type, use this command.

Show Label with…: This command shows or hides the labels on the loading blocks in graphic. The
loading sequence or name of the SKU type can be selected as the label.

Copy to Clipboard: This command copies the current graphic to the clipboard, which enables the
other application to use it.

Export to BMP: This command saves the current graphic to the BMP file.

Print: This command prints the graphic.

Properties: This command displays the properties of the graphic. This enables you to change the
name, size and color of the font.
Log window
This window displays all the messages generated during the run of simulation. The messages indicates the
data was not correct or errors are detected during the simulation. However the message ‘Simulation
completed successfully’ indicates the simulation is successful.

The available messages and the reasons are summarized as below.

“The quantity of [K] is 0. Please enter another value”: This type of message will show all SKU
types having zero quantity. This type of error is not so critical to the simulation that the SKUs of this
SKU type are not included in the load.
ƒ
“The size and weight of [K] is 0. Please enter valid values”: This type of message will show all
SKU types having invalid size or weight. This type of error is not so critical to the simulation that
the SKUs of this SKU type are not included in the load.
ƒ
“[K] is larger than the container”: This type of message will show all SKU types having the size
that is larger that the container. This type of error is not so critical to the simulation that the SKUs of
this SKU type are not included in the load.
ƒ
“Both of set ratio and quantity of [K] are 0. Please enter another value”: This type of message
will show all SKU types having the both set ratio and quantity are zero. This message will be
generated only if the simulation type is [Set Loading] and [Multiple Set Loading] because this
simulation type requires the property of the set ratio or the quantity to calculate the correct reault.
This type of error is CRITICAL to the simulation that the simulation will not continue.
ƒ
“The set ratio of [K] is 0. Please enter valid value”: This type of message will show all SKU
types having the set ratio and is zero. This message will be generated only if the simulation type is
[Set Loading] and [Multiple Set Loading] because this simulation type requires the property of the
set ratio. This type of error is CRITICAL to the simulation that the simulation will not continue.
ƒ
“There are no SKUs to run simulation! (SKU list is empty)”: This message indicates that there
are no SKUs at SKU list. You should add one or more SKUs into the SKU list of the [SKU List] tab
on the [Simulation] view.
ƒ
“The size of container is invalid”: This message indicates that the size of the container is invalid.
For example, one of the length, width and height is zero.
ƒ
“User has broken the simulation!”: This message indicates that the simulation has been cancelled
by clicking [Cancel] button on the status dialog in the middle of the simulation.

“Error occurred during simulation!”: This message indicates that the simulation failed because
there may be some incorrect data of the container or SKU. Verify the data and change it to the
proper value.

“Simulation completed successfully”: This message indicates that the simulation has been
completed successful. Even though this message shows, there may be several messages in the list.
In order to see what item (SKU or container) causes the message, just click a row of the message. This will
highlight the item or show a bubble tip window on the item that indicates the expected action by you as
pictured below.

Analyze Solutions
Introduction
This chapter explains the Analysis view that allows you to query or analyze the solutions from the calculation
in various methods. The view is composed of the [Simulation Explorer] area, which shows the input data, the
rules and the solutions of the simulation in tree structure, the [Graphics] area, which shows graphics of the
selected object from the [Simulation Explorer], and the [Property] and [Log] area, which displays the
property of the selected object and the log information generated from the simulation.
Open the Analysis View
Use one of two options in order to open this view.

SIMULATION NODE
This node displays the title, the description and the type of the simulation. To modify the title and the
description of the simulation, click the right mouse button on the area, show the shortcut menu and click
[Properties]. And enter new title and description in the [Properties] window.
INPUTS NODE
This node displays the inputs of the simulation. The inputs of the simulation are divided into the [Container]
node and the [SKU] node.
CONTAINER NODE
This node displays the name and the size of the input container. To look more properties of the container click
mouse right button, open shortcut menu and click [Properties] menu.
To change the container to another type, click right mouse button, open shortcut menu, click [Change to] and
select another type from the sub-menus.
SKU NODE
This node displays the SKU list. This is divided into the [All] node and the [By group] node. The [All] node
displays all SKU’s regardless of the group name and the [By group] node displays SKU’s by the group.
The number in the bracket of the [All] node is as below;

The first number (15 at right Figure) is the number of SKU type
ƒ
The second number (1659) is the total number of SKUs loaded in the simulation
ƒ
The third number (1769) is the total number of SKUs that was given originally
ƒ
The total number of remaining (110) equals the third number – the second number
If the [All] node expands, the whole SKU list will show up. The name of SKU and the number information in
the bracket will appear.
[Group] node displays the group name with the number information in the bracket.
SKU is divided into 2 types, the Normal and the Candidate. The simulation will try to load all of the normal
SKUs to maximize the load capacity in the container(s) primarily. At the enhancing stage by applying the
‘Enhancing Rule,’ the candidate SKUs will be used to fill the LCL(less than container load) that was not fully
loaded with the normal SKUs.
[Candidate SKU] displays the SKUs of candidate type.
The color of each node shows different meaning in regard of the number of loaded and remaining SKUs.

The black color means that the number of remaining of SKU of this node equals to 0 (all of the
SKU type are loaded)
ƒ
The blue color means that the number of remaining of SKU of this node greater than 0 (all of the
SKU type are NOT loaded)

RULES NODE
This node displays the rules that currently defined in the simulation. To change/view the simulation rules,

This node displays the loaded containers.

The bracketed number in the right side of the [Solutions] node means the total number of the loaded
containers.

The bracketed number of each container means the number of SKUs loaded into the container.

If you click the mark at left of the container name, the loading block will display as sub item. The
name and the number of SKUs in each load block will be shown.
Graphics Tab
This tab displays the selected items at the simulation explorer in graphic.
If the container, SKU and the loaded container clicked in the simulation explorer, the graphic will be
automatically updated.
For example, click the loaded container in the simulation explorer. Then the graphic of the container will
appear in this tab immediately. For the other type of graphic, click the detail graphic in the right side. Because
this functions equal to the [graphic] tab in the [simulation], the detail description will be omitted.
Container List Tab
This tab displays the loaded container list in graphic. In the [graphic] tab the user can see only the graphic of
one container, but in this tab all graphics of the whole loaded containers may appear at a time.
If some loaded container clicked in the simulation explorer, the loading pattern of the selected container will
appear with the red boundary.
Because this tab equals to the [container list] tab in the [simulation], the detail description will be omitted.
Load Block List Tab
This tab displays in graphic the loading block of the container selected in the simulation explorer. The
packing list will be displayed in the placement order and the user can verify the method and order of the
loading at a glance.

Unused Space List Tab
This tab displays in graphic the unused space in the loaded container. The user can find the status of the
unused space in the container at a glance.

Properties Preview Tab
This tab displays the properties of the item selected in the [simulation explorer].
If the container selected in the [simulation explorer], the name, dimension, weight and type of the container

If SKU selected, there will show the name, dimension, weight, sequence, stack value, quantity, left quantity,
SET ratio, CBM, group name, alias 1, 2, property 1, 2, 3 and description of SKU.
If the loaded container selected, the name, load quantity, volume efficiency, load CBM, axle weight and used
SKU list will appear.
Properties Edit Tab
This tab provides the function to change the properties of the item selected in the simulation explorer.
Log Tab
This tab displays the result that the simulation engine executed (this tab does not appear in the web
environment).
Because this tab equals with the [log] tab in the [simulation], the detail description will be omitted.

To unload a loaded container at a cell, follow this instruction.

MOVE LOADED SKUS INTO ANOTHER LOADED CONTAINER
To move SKUs loaded already in a loaded container into another loaded container, follow this instruction.

Bring first loaded container into cell #1
ƒ
Bring second loaded container into cell #2
ƒ
Select a loading block by click one row at the loading block list of the cell #1
ƒ
Drag the cursor (Move the cursor while pressing the mouse left button) to the cell #2

Release the mouse left button on the cell #2
ƒ
Enter the number of SKU to move in the [Add SKUs into Container] dialog box
ƒ
Click the [OK] button
ƒ
The SKUs of the loading block of the cell #1 moves into the loaded container of the cell #2
In case that you try to move more than SKUs than the maximum quantity available in the second loaded
container, an error message will appears as below. In this case, reduce the number of SKUs to move and try
again.
To fill unused spaces in a loaded container manually, use the [Edit Space Tab] explained in the next chapter.

Edit Spaces Window
The Edit Spaces Window, pictured below, tells you what SKU can be loaded in unused spaces of a loaded
container and allow you to fill them with additional quantities. In this window you can do the below things;

Click the desired loaded container node in the [Simulation Explorer]-[Solutions]

SELECT AN UNUSED SPACE AS A TARGET
To select the unused space as target, follow this instruction.

Click the [Solutions] node under the [Simulation Explorer] window

Click the right-click, open shortcut menu and click the [Show Unused Spaces] menu item

The unused space of the loaded container will display in the tree
ƒ
Click the desired unused space node

The graphic of the selected unused space will be updated in the [Preview]
PREVIEW OF LOADED CONTAINER
The graphic of the current target container will display. If the loaded container is to be edited, this shows the
container graphic and if the unused space, the unused space with red boundary will appear.

If checked here, only the SKUs with the value of the Max Column is greater than 0 will be displayed in the
[Qty List].
QTY LIST
This displays all the numbers of all SKU types available to fit into the current spaces or container. This list
includes 10 columns and each column is as below.

Name: name of SKU

Remain: the current quantity of SKU (current quantity = original quantity – the number used
for the simulation). If all SKU’s loaded, this equals 0.

Max: the available quantity of SKU to fit into the current editing target. In case of the loaded
container, the number for the whole unused space will display.

Full button: fills the unused space with the [additional quantity].
x
Partial button: fills the unused space with the inputted number within the [additional quantity]

Length, Width, Height: the dimension of SKU

Properties button: displays the properties windows of SKU

Create Reports
Introduction
The Reports View, pictured below, provides the functions to build and print the report of the simulation result.
This builds and print [simulation summary], [container list], [picking list], [loading guide] and [manifest].

Open the Report View
Use one of two options in order to open this view.

Open the [View] menu and select [Report Build].

From the Task List, click [Report Build] button.
Types of Reports
5 types of reports are available as below.

Simulation Summary: This report displays the input value, the rules and the result of the
simulation.
ƒ
Container List: This report displays the list of the loaded container in graphics.
ƒ
Picking List: This report displays the loaded container list in text. In addition to the basic properties
of SKU, Alias 1 and 2 will show up. If the location number and the order number for the picking
may be inputted into these properties, these data can be shown in this report, which can be
efficiently used to the picking list.

Manifest: This report displays the shipping information and manifest list.
ƒ
Loading Guide: This report displays the instruction steps for loading containers with graphical
images and test information.

Structure of Report View
This view comprises the left [report list] and the right [report view]. The description for each screen will be
made in detail.
List of Report Types Screen
This screen displays and allows you to choose the report type. By clicking the desired report title, the report
will be built automatically and shows up in the right [report view] screen.
Report View Screen
The selected report is generated and shown in this area. This view contains tow parts-control bar and report
viewer.
The control bar provides several buttons to print and manipulate the report.
ƒ
Print: This button shows print window to allow you to select a printer layout and several options of
the printings. If you click [OK] of the dialog, the report will be printed as your selected settings.
ƒ
Setup: This button shows report setup window to allow you to change format of the report
including the size of fonts, position of the head and sub titles, and separator between containers.
The report viewer shows the generated HTML of the selected report type. The HTML is a temporary file
which located in the folder, “C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMS Shared\HTMLReport.” If the program
exits, this file may be deleted automatically.
