This month is a busy one
for the calendar. Mothering
Sunday is March 6th and
towards the end of the month
Easter celebrations are here
again, with Good Friday on
the 25th March leading into
the bank holiday weekend
with Easter Monday on 28th
March.
Shelves of Easter Eggs
arrived in the shops as soon
as the Christmas sales ended.
Creme Eggs are out again...
smaller than they used to be.
Made me think of the good
old days when snacks were
bigger and cost far less than
they do now.
Schools will be on half term
for the Easter break and
finally one more thing to add
to the calendar this month
is the clocks spring forward
one hour (Daylight Saving
Time). On Sunday 27th
(Easter Sunday) we lose an
hour’s sleep. For those of you
who attend church services
on Easter Sunday, the clock
changes really mess with
people arriving on time, so
this is just a heads up for you
to help you get there on time.
We are fast approaching the
100th issue of Thornton’s
community news magazine.
I am thrilled to be editor
for this huge milestone. I’ll
need to think up something
special for the issue.
We have a couple of
highlights in the Directory
this month. The new Home
Guard Series starts, following
the big screen launch of
the new Dad’s Army film.
The articles are written for
us by Robert Brown of the
Clayton History Group. These
will run for several months
telling local stories of the
time. Another new feature is
our LifeHacks column. Don’t
know what a ‘lifehack’ is? find
out on page 34. Grab a brew
and a chocolate egg and

hospice. I’ve been very busy getting the
plants ready to sell, so hopefully they will be

Councillor Richard Dunbar. My name is
Matthew and I live in Thornton and am a
regular reader of the directory. It’s great! Was wondering if there is potential for a
feature story at some point between now
and April with regards to my band. We are
called Kascarade and have a debut album
release and launch in Bradford at the end of
April, two of us reside in Thornton and my

VALERIE BINNEY DRIVE PROPOSAL
At a meeting of the Bradford West Area
Committee on the 28th January it was
unanimously agreed by Elected Members
that a proposal by Cllr Malcolm Sykes
(Thornton & Allerton Ward), supported by
his Ward colleagues Cllr Richard Dunbar
and Cllr Sue Duffy, to name a new street in
the proposed Chevet Mount development
Allerton Lane Allerton - Valerie Binney Drive
- be approved.
The original suggestion was made by the
developer, Stephen Walkden, and was
readily supported as a fitting dedication to
honour the late former Councillor and Lord
Mayor of Bradford - Valerie Binney.
Cllr Valerie Binney worked tirelessly in her
role as a Ward Councillor for the Thornton
& Allerton Ward, representing everyone to
the very best of her ability. Everyone that
came into contact with her could not fail to
be impressed by her energy, commitment
and support for whatever issue was causing
concern for local residents.

BIN COLLECTION CHANGES
The council are making changes to the
collection days for the domestic (green
bin) waste, as part of a number of changes
to provide a more efficient service. The
change of collection days will start week
commencing 14th March. You should have
received a notice through your door letting
you know you new collection day.
If you have a smartphone and easily
forget which day your bin is supposed to
be put out for collection, the council are
promoting their smartphone app, which has
a notification/reminder for your weekly bin
day.
The council will be implementing the new
Bin Policy with their collection teams;
• One bin per household only.
• No bags or additional waste left
alongside. Also the lid to the bin needs to
be completely shut, so no pushing one
more bag in and expecting the bin to be
collected if overfilled.
• Householders MUST recycle more.
Replacement green bins are always
charged for. If you need a FREE recycling
bin, you can contact the council for one.
Items that can go in your recycling bin
include plastic bottles, glass bottles and jars,
cans and all paper or card. Don’t forget to
rinse out any containers, they don’t need to
be spotless, just free from liquids and food.
If you place the wrong items in either of the
bins, the collection will not be made and a
red contamination tag placed on the bin.
This means you need to remove the wrong
item and place it into the correct bin for its
collection. In reality this may mean a week or
so delay on your waste collection.

SOUTH SQUARE CENTRE THREATENED
WITH CLOSURE
Bradford Council’s proposal threatens to
close South Square Centre.
South Square Centre runs on a very tight
operating budget, which is covered by
rental income, gallery bookings and sales.
The trustees of Thornton and Allerton
Community Association have a responsibility
to maintain the Grade-II listed building on
behalf of the Council but receive no funding
to do this. While they have been successful
in raising money from Arts Council England,
the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Esmee
Fairbairn Foundation to support our artistic
and learning programmes over the years,
this funding does not go towards offsetting
the core costs.
However the Centre currently receives a
rental subsidy to the value of £25,900.00. It
is with great concern to the staff, volunteers,
resident artists and visitors, that the Council
is considering removing or reducing this
concession as part of proposals to find £53
million in savings and additional income
over the next two years. This would not
only affect South Square Centre but all
community facilities including sports and
recreational centres that benefit from the
subsidy. If the proposal is approved, the
Centre would be asked to pay rent from

2017. In effect this would double the
operating costs and, without the prospect
of being able to raise further income, the
Centre would be forced to close. In addition,
the Council is also proposing to withdraw
the discretionary business rate rebate that
the small business tenants currently benefit
from. The suggestion is that the Council
should defer making a decision until further
consultation can be undertaken with the
affected organisations in order to assess the
full impact of the proposals. FLOOD RELIEF SUPPORT
Last month we featured the work of the
Community Foundation for Calderdale
and their Flood Relief Fund. They reached
a massive £1million in funds raised by the
Government deadline for matched funding.
The funds are available to those affected by
the floods. Steve Duncan Chief Executive of
the Community Foundation said “The next
stage of our support will be to help people
replace white goods, carpets, furniture etc as
well as further financial support, the road to
recovery is going to be a long one but we
are dedicated to supporting our community
and will continue to raise and distribute
funds”.
He continued “It’s a great achievement to
reach the million pounds and it will help
so many, but the level of devastation is
such that we need a lot more to be able to
support some of the hardest hit”

THORNTON FLYER - Easter 1981

Over the years, various groups in Thornton
have produced magazines. Recording village
life, demonstrating longevity, changes,
and over time, technological advances in
publishing. They also provide opportunities
to reminisce! Thornton Directory launched
10 years ago, a previous directory 25 years
ago and Thornton Flyer, 10 years prior.
All encouraged readers to support local
businesses and groups.
35 YEARS AGO: THORNTON FLYER (Easter)
In this type written text magazine, readers
were told the Christmas first edition had
been well received and a Leeds reader won
the Whisky donated by Charlie Pedder, Chair
of the Residents Association. Editor Howard
Jackson appealed for help with future
publication and distribution, collection and
collation of advertising, plus the gathering of
news from around the clubs. ARTICLES included ‘The History of Thornton’
- first of a series, from notes by Alfred Hartley
and son Peter; ‘The Invasion of Thornton’
– by tourists on a ‘Bronte Weekend’ (with
comment on bricked up cottages of Cloggers
Row). ‘ROUND THE CLUBS’ included: The Thornton
Junior Drama Group performance of ‘The
Island with No Chip Shops’; Thornton Vocal
Union concert for Manorlands, with Yorkshire
Relish Band and Musical Director of the
choir John Marshall. Thornton Cricket Club;
Silhouette Slimming Club at Thornton First
School; Thornton Veterans, inviting Bowls
players and time to socialise with darts,
dominoes and cine films in winter. The hut
had been broken into again and money,
dart board etc. stolen. Packs of cards and
other donations were requested; Thornton
Residents Association visit to City Hall and
Law Courts; A feature on Branwell House Film

Group, describing its beginnings at Downs
Coulter Social Club, with cinema (opened 6
Nov 1979 by Liz Ambler, Radio Leeds), studio,
and darkroom facilities for cine and still
photographic work. ADVERTISERS included some Market

3rd West Riding Home Guard
Conscription into the armed forces for 18 to
40 year old males in WW2 commenced on
3rd September 1939, with the upper age limit
rising to include 51 year-olds in December
1941. There was a general feeling at the
time that home defence arrangements were
inadequate, and the government decided
to quell the move to create “private” armies
by creating the Local Defence Volunteers
(LDV, “Look, Duck and Vanish”) on 14 May
1940. The response was enormous, and, to
formalise the system, the Home Guard was
then created in July 1940. Total numbers rose
to a peak of over 1.75 million men by 1944,
and Bradford contributed heavily, with the
recruiting office in the central Police Station
kept exceedingly busy. Note that Home
Guard members required no governmentsupplied accommodation or food, though
weapons, ammunition, training and uniforms
were to be provided later.
From a nucleus of WW1-surviving veterans,
plus significant numbers of men in reserved
occupations, all giving up their time freely,
an efficient, if initially under-supplied and
untrained, organisation emerged. Central
planning covered all eventualities, including
the locations of garages holding large

supplies of petrol (for emergencies only!) and
the locations of emergency meeting places –
usually well known public houses!
The valley running down to Bradford from
the Denholme-Halifax Road was allotted to
“A” (Thornton) Company, 3rd West Riding,
Home Guard, and that also defined the
catchment area for recruiting.
From data held by the then British Legion (later
“Royal”), the initial Company Commander
appointed was Norbert Durrant (Thornton),
a WW1 veteran, later a Thornton Councillor,
then Bradford Alderman, and ultimately
Lord Mayor. As second-in-command, George
L Brown (Clayton), another WW1 survivor,
was selected, but at some later date, and for
unknown reasons, the appointments were
reversed, and Major Brown and Captain
Durrant continued to run the Company until
disbandment, in December 1944.

The Rotary Club
of Bradford West
The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self” and
the members of The Rotary Club of Bradford
West are always looking for ideas to help
the local community and internationally.
We have collected for the Cumbrian and
Calderdale floods, helped with fund raising
for our local school, Keelham Primary
and set up a BP / Stroke Awareness day at
Keelham Farm Shop. We will be helping Cycle
Queensbury with their annual bike ride on
the Sus Trans path across Thornton Viaduct
on the 14th May and we are developing a
large notice board to be positioned at the
start of the path in Thornton. You will recall
from previous editions of this magazine we
were to hold an auction in Wilsden Village
Hall, regretfully we have been let down so

we looked for an alternative venue. The good
folk of Cullingworth have leased us the Village
Hall and the auction will now be held on
Saturday 7th May, so all those folk who have
donated items for the auction “many thanks
and your donations will now be auctioned
in Cullingworth Village Hall on Saturday
7th May. ” If there are any more items which
we can auction for our Rotary Charities,

talking about “Old Bradford”. The club will
have a Fellowship Weekend in Derbyshire on
13th to 15th of May, and our President Carol
Stanton will hold her President’s Evening at
The Dubrovnic Hotel on 16th April.

All choirs are constantly searching for new
members and we are delighted to welcome
6 new voices to Thornton Singers. They are,

Seated are Pauline Hook our Chairwoman
and David Mawson, our Musical Director.
Now is an excellent time to join our choir as
we have just started to rehearse the music
for our spring/summer concerts. You might
think, that with 6 new members, we have
enough but peoples circumstances change,
some moving away, some finding travel
difficult or there are family commitments
so it always good to have new people, new
voices.
We rehearse every Wednesday at Haworth
Road Methodist Church, Haworth Road

Thornton Antiquarian Society
If you are interested in any aspect of history,
you are welcome to come to our meetings in
the Community Centre every Wednesday at
2pm.
Come along and enjoy a cup of tea and learn
something you possibly didn’t know. As you
will see from our programme in the ‘What’s
On’ section, we are not only interested in
Thornton’s history, although that is a primary
concern.
We have an extensive archive of people,
buildings, events, schools and churches in
Thornton. For instance in a report published
in 1854, Public Health Inspectors noted that
“The number of houses in the Havelock Street
area is from 16 to 20 and for the whole there
is but one privy without either door or seat”.
It doesn’t take a great deal of imagination to

picture the health problems that arose from
that one situation.
Our archive rooms in South Square have
hundreds of documents, photographs , maps
and other information on Thornton, which
are accessible to anyone who is interested.
Pay us a visit, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Keelham Primary School
Early Years fun with a purpose
We are now at the end of the spring half term
and with one eye on spring and the end of
the grey wet days (hopefully), our Foundation
stage unit have been completing their
learning concerned with “Why does snow
melt?”
Through the weeks the children have been
busy; building igloos, making ice and melting
it, building dens for animals to hibernate in,
looking after baby penguins that have been
sent to them from the South Pole, identifying
arctic animals that can survive in the cold,
their asking why, and much much more!
Their learning was completed with a Winter
Wonderland Day, celebrating all they had
achieved this half term. Invitations were sent
out to parents to come along in their winter
woollies and preparations were made to turn
the classroom unit into a winter-themed
fairground, full of games and activities to get
involved with. The children, who are aged
between 3 and 5 years old, had been ‘earning’
their own money over the weeks as a means
of reward for tasks completed, help given or
good manners shown. They all then had their
envelope of money to spend and together
with visiting mums, dads and siblings they
had fun doing so. Activities included; hook
a whale, have your photograph taken as an
explorer or Inuit, build an igloo challenge,
use the Bee Bots (motor controlled figures)
to find the animals hibernating, cosy by the
fire with board games and throwing a wet
sponge at an adult (very popular apparently).
After all that, everyone could visit the in
class café for a warming hot chocolate and
pancake! Mrs Broadbent, a patient parent
volunteer, also spent most of the day face
painting amazing Jack Frosts, snowflakes
and even reindeer, penguins and seals!
Some parents were even ‘volunteered’ by
the children for a snowman challenge. The
children had to wrap the parents up in white
crepe paper and decorate as snowmen…
against the clock. It was all good fun but
with a great element of learning behind
it all. The money was an especially useful
learning activity, as once it’s gone...it’s gone!
So the children planned their actions and
purchases well to really get the most out of
the day. Well done and thanks go to all the
foundation stage staff for their hard work
and energy needed to make these kinds of
days so successful for everyone!

Thornton’s First Beavers
hit the Scout Section!
Thornton’s leadership team were delighted
to hit an important milestone on Thursday
4th Feb, with the investiture into Scouts
of the first of our Beavers since the section
relaunched 4 years ago.
10 year olds Maisie and Willow joined the
newly formed Beaver Colony back in 2012,
and having transitioned through Cubs made
the next step in their journey through the
Scout Movement.
Having recently returned a Census number
of 68 youth members within the group, the
group are seeing the results of the fantastic
work by our Beaver and Cub leaders which
continue to feed the older sections with
healthy retention rates – a sign of a fantastic
job by our colleagues. Well done all!

I joined Scouts one year ago, and I’ve never
looked back! Having met loads of new
people, experienced new activities on
meeting nights, camps and days out, it’s
been incredible fun!
In my first year I have taken part in Gliding, Ice
Skating and been to so many different places
I can’t name them all. Every night we do
something new, things that I wouldn’t have
thought I was able to until I tried, sometimes
with a little push from the leaders.
Within the first few months I had been on
two camps, one to Sconce near Baildon, and
the other to Thornthwaite near Harrogate.
Here we did First Aid, walks, pumpkin
carving, cooking, team building and wide
games (like a big hide-and-seek at night).
On Thursdays we did weird and wonderful
activities like making Bird Houses (for our DIY
badge), matchstick rockets, made caterpults
and firelighters. I really enjoyed a new
game called Airlock, where our legs were
tied together and we had to make our way
through an obstacle course. Also, I had the
opportunity to try shooting and archery for
the first time during a jam-packed year.
Last year, we were offered an activity that I
had never done before as our Christmas Party
- Ice Skating. I was very nervous, thinking
I would fall. Having got onto the ice rink
and wobbled about a bit, I managed to get
around a few laps and realised that everyone
else was also learning. It was hilarious and
of course everyone laughed when I fell,
although by then I didn’t care!
I can’t wait for this year’s new adventures to
arrive!

Thornton Primary School
Writing competition winners this half term:
Frances Tidswell-Thompson in Year 3 wrote a
story with a moral:
One day there lived a mother rabbit who had
five baby rabbits. They would be lovely baby
rabbits if they would stop arguing with each
other. They lived in a burrow in the ground.
One day the mother rabbit called all the
baby rabbits into the main burrow and
showed them a bundle of carrots. She asked
her eldest child to come and snap the bundle
of carrots.
The eldest rabbit tried with all of her strength
but she could not even bend the bundle.
Then the mother rabbit told all of the other
baby rabbits to try and share the bundle, but
none of them could.
The mother rabbit sighed and untied some
string that was holding the bundle together.
She separated the carrots and gave one to
each of her children. Each of the baby rabbits
could then snap their carrot easily.
Then the mother rabbit said, “My children. If
you stop arguing and learn to work together,
then you will be as strong as this bundle
of carrots. But if you are divided amongst
yourselves, you will be broken as easily as
you have broken the carrots.”
The moral of the story is, when working
together and supporting each other, we are
strong.
Thomas Davidson in Year 6 wrote a story
opening about an adventurer called Hemlock
reaching his destination:
Emerging from the murky darkness of the
forest, Hemlock raised his torch stabbing
the darkness with his flame and revealing a
derelict door which was hidden in the night.
Hemlock did not know what to expect in the
cave beyond.
Approaching the oak door, Hemlock
cautiously slipped open the latch and gently
eased the creaking door ajar. He gathered all
of his bravery and ventured inside. Swinging
his torch left and right, he suddenly came to
a halt. A wall stood in front of him.
Hemlock searched for something: a lever or
anything that could help him get past the
wall. He was certain that there was something
behind. Without hesitation, Hemlock put his
ear against the wall. Suddenly, a squeak…
from a bat? There was something beyond!

Bradford
Camera Club BCC have found our new home very suitable
and have an increased membership. We have
designed a programme of instruction and
tutorials to suit all levels of photographers
and the first six evenings, as I write this, have
been very well received.
We have had a ‘how to take better pictures’
and a ‘using your camera’ and then the first
round of the four Mitchell & Metcalfe internal
competitions. Pictured are the winning
images, two from the President Judy (1 - Mr
Deep & 2 - Spiral staircase Belfast Castle) and
one from Tony Caunt (3 - Crest Merchant
Adventurers Hall, York).
On the 4th of February the editor of this
magazine Neil Bird came along and went
through The basics of ‘Photoshop’, an
excellent tutorial sharing with the members
all about the tools of this wonderful medium.
Neil will be coming again on the 3rd of March,
to show ‘The manipulation of ‘Photoshop’.
Some members will go to Pudsey Camera
Club for the third round of the Interclub
group on Saturday 5th March and then on
the 10th it will be the AGM & presentation of
trophies from 2015. On the 17th Ken & Ann
Thompson will share their images of The
South Island of New Zealand followed by
an evening for new members to show their
work.
The club plans to have photo shoots outside
in selected locations as soon as the weather
improves, an evening with a model to do a
portrait session and a prestige lecture. More

Community Updates
Thornton & Denholme
Medical Centre
Year on year there are fairly big changes
taking place in the NHS. In the last year we
have seen funding drop considerably to core
general practice and a further reduction is
expected in 2016-17.
We have also seen the effects of the GP
recruitment crisis first hand across Bradford.
Some of you may be aware this has led to the
use of locum doctors again, which we have
carefully resourced but this cannot be a long
term option.
Our aim is to provide continuity of care, rapid
access for acute illness, flexible appointments
including telephone consultation and
extended hours. We also aim to maintain
high quality service by providing education
and multidisciplinary team working. This
is easier to do when all staff are employed
by our organisation. Fortunately we are
an enthusiastic dynamic healthcare team,
always striving to respond in a positive way
to challenge.
We are also fortunate that we have
an enthusiastic and proactive patient
participation group and the help and
support of our practice health champions
in Thornton. Together we will be looking at
ways we can meet demand with reduced
resources. This may include an in house
pharmacist to help deal with the 100+ script
requests we have a day.
We really need all our patients help too. If you
are unsure which health care professional
can manage your problems/symptoms
please ask reception staff.
Please allow receptionists to ask for a brief
outline of your problem to direct you to the
most appropriate health care professional.
Please see the advert on the next page for
PHARMACY FIRST. Many people are not

aware that pharmacists have a consultation
room! They can see patients for a range of
conditions and across Bradford and Airedale
pharmacists can do prescriptions too.
Many practices have seen patients using
this service when they have coughs, colds,
sinus problems, ear ache, simple rashes or
athletes foot. In Thornton and Denholme it’s
been relatively underused so far. Consider a
telephone consultation for symptoms that
might not need an examination, or a review
if your condition is stable. Practice Nurses are
a great resource. Please book with the nurse
rather than a GP for contraceptive advice.
You should give 24 hours notice when
cancelling appointments. Please don’t simply
not turn up and waste appointments. In
December we had 230 DNA (did not attend)
appointments with our health care team.
Please allow at least a 48 hour turnaround
and if you can order prescriptions via
your pharmacy, online or via your repeat
prescription rather than phoning reception.
Consider setting up electronic prescribing
through your pharmacy.

organisation and it’s useful to hear both the

Miss Tattersal often went out to visit children
who were absent from school, seeing as
many as 15 families in one evening.
Some delicate schoolchildren were often
away from school. On the 20th January 1882
five children were listed as "often ailing" who
scarcely make any advance with their lessons.
One of these, Alfred Shepherd subsequently
died in August of the same year, his being
one of 24 deaths recorded in the years 1873
- 1898. Miss Tattersall recorded the deaths
with regret, an entry for the 4th July 1874
reading "One of my boys, named Joe Sharp, a
fine little fellow,died on Sunday after a short
illness." Not all the deaths were from illness.
In September 1875 Ephraim Watmuff, aged
5 ,died after falling down a quarry at Brecks.
School holidays were, one week at Easter and
Whitsuntide, two weeks in summer and two
weeks at Christmas. There was half holiday
for Shrove Tuesday and for Gunpowder
Plot. In addition the children were given
an occasional day off for other events, such
as in August 1895 when the school was
closed, as so many were watching a "Grand
Wedding" at the village church or, on the
23rd September 1889 when all schools in
Bradford were closed , so that children could
go and see Barnum's Show in Bradford.
National events such as the wedding of the
Duke of York and Princess Mary in July 1895
were also celebrated, and in 1897 the school
was closed for a week for Queen Victoria's
Diamond Jubillee.
When Joseph Wilds was admitted to the
school on 26th March1886 he was described
as having a speech impediment and a
useless right hand. On the 1st September
1876, Sarah Smith was said to be an infant
in mind and partly paralysed. An entry dated
27th January 1882 read, Andrew Chadwick. I
sent him home for being dirty and filthy, to

return when he was clean. The children are
utterly neglected by the mother.
Listed are the topics taught, in addition to
reading writing and arithmetic , there were
object lessons such as The Lighthouse, The
Whale, Day and Night, Kindness to Animals,
The Railway Trains and Minding the Baby. The
girls were taught sewing and all the children
learnt songs such as "I must not grieve my
mother" and " The old black cat".
Interspersed among the more mundane
entries, such as the buying of slates or
the visits of the Baptist Minister, there are
interesting entries such as the end of term
outing to to play in Mr Yewdalls field, or on
the 31st July 1874 when the local blacksmith,
whose workshop was next to the school,
where Angus Jowett and Herbert Andrews
had been throwing stones "came into the
playground and without speaking to anyone,
kicked the boys most severely".
By 1898 the school had become very
overcrowded. A new Board School was
opened, the entry for 30th September
reading “The scholars have all marched
through the village this afternoon carrying
banners, slates and books, to the new school
to learn their appointed classrooms ready for
Monday morning.” Sarah Tattersall continued
to keep her log book at the new school until
her departure on the 22nd December1899.

At the age of 15 yrs old, Mark Tailford began
his career in the motor trade. It was a youth
apprenticeship at the well known Dews
Motor Group, based in Brighouse, that got
him started. Since then Mark has more or less
never left the motor industry gaining over 25
years experience.
After various employed positions in accident
repairs and painting work he eventually
decided in 2006 that it was the right time
to go self employed and be his own boss.
Like many businesses he started small,
working without a unit in the first few years.
As the business grew Mark decided he
needed his own workspace and began to
look for premises. He found a unit behind
Simmonites Land Rover on Thornton Road
to call home and has been there serving his
loyal customers for the last 7 years.
Trading as MT Refinishing Bodyshop, Mark
is fully equipped to undertake most vehicle
bodywork repairs from minor dents to full
resprays. He particularly enjoys vehicle
restoration and has completed several
full restoration projects to an exceptional
standard.

Mark’s 25 years of experience have been
built upon making sure every customer has
a quality finish and complete satisfaction. He
will guarantee his work so you drive away
happy and confident.
In 2015, Mark bought an eye-catching Smart
Car to help promote his business in the
local area. You may see him driving around
Thornton and surrounding areas in the
stickered up car. If you do, make sure you
give him a wave and say ‘hi’. He is happy to
have a quick check over any work you may
want him to look at for you too while he’s out
and about.

Ossett brewery and 4 real ciders, we have a

Friday and Saturday night there will be local
bands playing and finally on the Sunday
there will be a family fun day with quick
cricket, bouncy castles and much more.

Cricket Club
We are now looking
ahead to the 2016
season and to this end
we have booked our
indoor crickets nets at
Thornton Recreation
Centre on Tuesday nights 8-9pm until the
22nd Mar 2016. Cost is £2 for juniors and £3
for seniors each session.
The practice/coaching sessions will be
attended by our ECB Level 2 qualified
coaches (all DBS (CRB) checked). The Club was
awarded the ECB CLUBMARK accreditation
in October 2008, which confirms our
commitment to being a safe, effective and
child -friendly cricket club. Anyone wanting to join the club should
