INTERNATIONAL RALLYe RAID iN AFRIca
« on Thierry Sabine ‘s footsteps… »
5 th Edition from 27 Decembre 2012 to 9 January 2013
CONCEPT : AN AFRICAN EVENT
THE AFRICA ECO RACE® provides a response to strategic needs on the African
continent, namely tourism, the economy and long-term development.
Both partners and active participants, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal are the three
countries that the event will cross.
THE AFRICA ECO RACE® was created with the support of the international car and bike
Sporting Federations, and in partnership with the African authorities :
THE AFRICA ECO RACE® is a return to the initial values of the Rally Raids, namely a wish
for simplicity, conviviality and authenticity, in a race where human and sporting values
are more important than superficialities.

« AFRICA ECO RACE » SPIRIT
THE AFRICA ECO RACE® offers its competitors closer proximity and a real spirit of mutual aid.
The challenging terrain, difficulties and solitude become a catalyst for adrenaline.
THE AFRICA ECO RACE® is open to cars, SSV, bikes (-450cc and +450cc), quads and trucks. The event
is entered on the international calendars of both the F.I.A and the F.I.M, guaranteeing the
application of the regulations.
The bivouacs are chosen in agreement with the partner countries, and are located in the
middle of the countryside, far from the flight paths, in an ‘authentic’ environment where the
‘eco-responsibility’ of the competitors and the organisation will be put into practice.
On a sporting level, each entrant will be able to push themselves and go to the limits of the own
adventure, regardless of their vehicle and their experience. Organizer’s wish is to see all
competitors arriving in Dakar, mutual aid is “Master Word” on the bivouac!

BIVOUACS
- AFRICA ECO RACE
• Far away from the airfields, the bivouacs of the Africa Eco Race are settled
on nice spots, in the middle of a wild Nature.
• These traditional bivouacs, typically “African” offer a quality catering , a
warm atmosphere and conviviality.
• Priority is given to competitors and service teams.
• Based on cultural exchanges, passion, conviviality and sharing with the
inhabitants of the countries it crosses, AFRICA ECO RACE is a race unlike the
others…

AN « ECO-RESPONSIBLE » ORGANISATION
The AFRICA ECO RACE® has clearly indicated its wish to contribute to the long-term development by
integrating eco-responsible behaviour into the daily organisation of the race, but also through long-term
projects.
The emphasis will be placed on the individual, daily conscientiousness concerning eco-responsibility. Both
the entrants and the organisation will take care to leave no harmful traces of their passage through the
countries. A number of projects will aim to make long-term use of renewable resources, in order to make a
long-term contribution to the lives of the inhabitants in the most remote areas of the various countries that
the race will cross. These actions will be both tangible and long-lasting.
The emphasis is on the local economy, by using local service providers. In the same way, the route is
defined in close collaboration with the authorities of the countries crossed, in order to avoid zones which
need protecting, such as national parks…
Another example is the number of organisation vehicles which are equiped by solar panel in order to use
the solar energy for realizing their mission without using a classic generator.

LEGENDARY AFRICA
Africa Eco Race offer a route across Africa, characterised by simplicity, conviviality and authenticity,
that all competitors really appreciated. A multi-faceted race, over a new route, has been drawn up
by the Sporting Director, René Metge, African lover and expert.
Starting in Europe (Marseille in 2009, Portimao in 2010 and Chateau de Lastours in 2011), and
finishing in the Capital City of Senegal, via Morocco and Mauritania, the equation is simple for a
journey through the most fascinating desert of them all, the Sahara.
“ The first edition of the AFRICA RACE captured the imagination due to stages that were almost
brand-new. The 2010, 2011 editions has remained the same general feeling : discover new
landscapes to admire and new challenges to overcome. Navigation has regained its rightful place
and its importance, in order to highlight the aptitudes of all concerned.”
By the end of the adventure, Africa will have given few its greatest treasures. Breath-taking
landscapes and the opportunity to meet the people. Something that cannot fail to touch hearts and
minds…
And as tradition dictates, the arrival on the shores of Lac Rose in Dakar!

SUSTAINABLE PROJECTS
One exemple :
"Planting a million trees over 2000 hectares around the city of Nouakchott." This is the challenge
that wants to meet the Mauritanian capital by 2015. Objective: to prevent the advance of sand
dunes and marine incursions. "2000 hectares in four years, 500 hectares per year"..
In 2011, Africa Eco Race will participate in the implementation of
trees in the Mauritanian capital. Thousands of Eucalyptus Avenue
Gamal Abdel Nasser to the beach and to the port will be planted to
replace trees uprooted in the renovation.

THE projects humanitarian
One exemple :
Africa Eco Race Mecene of "The
Khaïma des Petits"
"Nadia Loth has decided to open this NGO for 62 children, their creating a small world to
them, to help them grow up in a healthy environment rich in color." When we pass the
threshold of the door of the "small Khaïma" in Nouakchott, it is the smile that tape us in full
in the eyes, both are cute to see in their uniforms, the boys in blue, girls pink. "
