Palatal Expansion Screw
Use Instruction Palatal Expansion Screw Expanders are devices designed to correct the occlusion of certain maxillo mandibular regions through the transversal or longitudinal movement of the teeth. The expanders have as main characteristic of operation the activation of a central screw through a specific key which promotes the movement of metal bodies, resulting in the controlled application of forces against the teeth, promoting dental arch correction through orthodontic or orthopedic movements according to the needs observed clinically. Such devices can be used with other orthodontic devices, their use may be fixed to the patient, or removable, in this case such devices are assembled into acrylic molds according to the mouth morphology of each patient. These devices are generally employed in the functional orthopedics for the expansion of the maxillary dental arch in its transverse direction by applying side forces against the posterior maxillary dentition, resulting in the separation of midpalatal suture, having as effect, the increase in the transverse dimension of the basal maxillary bone by orthopedic movements. Considered a rapid expansion device, used as a fixed mechanism, its applied to the patient along the palatal contour and its fixation can be assisted with the use of lingual and buccal wire support, which allows greater rigidity of the device through anchorage on orthodontic bands or stainless steel crowns by welding. Such device is made of stainless steel with flexible arms to facilitate their shaping according to the patient jaw morphology. After placement, the patient may be responsible for the expander activation as instructed by the orthodontist. Use Indication: Expanders for palatal expansion are indicated for correction of maxillomandibular deficient relations in cases of mixed / precocious permanent dentition, or posterosuperior bi-lateral crossbite as a result of deficiency of the apical base of the jaw, as well as cases of anterior or posterior crossbite that are not too severe. The use of this device is contraindicated in cases of Class II, division 1 or superior prognathism, since the rapid expansion technique will intensify these effects. The same condition of contraindication is valid for patients that already have a very accentuated inferior bite plane, as this plane is intensified by the rapid expansion. 01 Use Instruction Warnings: 2 - Non reusable product, as its reuse may cause cross infection, and loss of mechanical properties due to natural wear. - Product to be applied by orthodontic qualified professional only. - Non-sterile product, the professional is responsible for the good work practices. NON STERILE - This product contains Nickel and Chromium. A small percentage of the population is allergic to these metals. In case of allergic reactions, advise the patient to seek medical attention. - Do not use the product if the packaging is violated. - This product hasn’t been evaluated for compatiblity and safety in Magnetic Resonance environment, the patient should be advised of this condition. - Excessive heating of the rod can compromise the material structure, reducing its mechanical properties and leading the same to fracture. - For patient safety, in applications of intraoral activation, use only the Expander key with long stem provided with the product. Expander Key Lock Braking Ring The Expanders Morelli have a braking ring designed to prevent screw returning during activation. This ring is made of high quality polymer. In cases where welds are executed close to the region of the ring, it is recommended to protect the same, so as to avoid excessive heating of the material to ensure the effectiveness of the product. The protection can be perform by applying specific paste, plaster, alginate or cotton humidified with water. Centering Lock Wire Bending To conform the expander rods use appropriate tools, as the Wire Bender (cod. 75.02.001) and the trident plier. Perform the necessary bends with the desired angle, avoiding submit the rods to torsion, that can weaken the rod as well as the weld, causing their fracture. Avoid torsion on the rod 02 Use Instruction Band Flame While preparing the expander avoid direct flame on the body, even during the welding, avoiding damage the product.
