KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— After a bogey-bogey start to
begin his News Sentinel Open final round, Peter
Malnati found himself not panicking and actually
walking to the third tee as he said, “feeling good.”
There was good reason. Malnati made a birdie on the
fourth hole and off he went, making seven more
birdies — including birdies on four of his final five
holes — to win his first Web.com Tour event by a
stroke over a quartet of players in front of a loud and
appreciative crowd.
“I didn’t feel like I was going to win,” Malnati said
after that first birdie of the day. “That was a thought
that was not in my head.”

3rd Annual Vinnie Krikac State Farm Car Classic
Supported by the
Nebraska Section PGA
Special thanks to Vinnie Krikac and Wilderness Ridge for hosting this great event. With over
80 cars in the show and over 500 people in attendance, the Nebraska Section staff gave over 40
free golf lessons. This 3rd annual event is a unique way to introduce people to the game of golf
that may not have ever have had the opportunity before. The winner is the 1957 Metropolitan!

Did you know that rounds played last month were up 7.5% at Daily Fee/Semi-Private Facilities compared to 2012 here in Nebraska? How about that Green Fee Gross Revenue was up 30.5% this July
over July 2012 at Private Facilities in our Section? I was able to track this thanks to PGA PerformanceTrak, a free PGA Member benefit which allows each facility to confidentially & anonymously
compare their facility’s rounds played and revenue figures to averages for similar facilities in the area
and generate reports that can be used in Board Meetings, Management Reports, for budgeting and
more.
Spending five minutes per month using PGA PerformanceTrak could lead to better job security, promotions and many other benefits. In this month’s article we will be highlighting the key benefits of
PGA PerformanceTrak as well as answering many of the frequently asked questions and concerns
PGA Professionals have about the program. But first it is important to give a brief overview of what
is involved with participating in PGA PerformanceTrak.
Each month between the 1st and 22nd you can log into PGALinks to enter the following figures from
the prior month:






Rounds Played*
Days Closed*
Golf Fee Revenue
Merchandise Revenue
F&B Revenue
Total Revenue
*Required
By the 25th of the month you will then have access to numerous reports which allow you to compare your facility’s figures with averages for similar facilities in your area. For each of the line
items above you can create reports showing yearto-date figures, rounds or revenue per round,
month-to-month trends, rolling 12-month and
more. You can also create professional looking
charts and graphs to use in Board Reports and
monthly or yearly performance meetings.
By now you should have some questions that you want to ask. These questions are important as you
are sharing data over PGALinks.com. Click here to view some of the most frequently asked questions
and answers about the program.

In a previous article, I wrote on the concept of focus - both in a playing the game context and the
business of golf context. Staying in the present, focusing on the target and being able to shut out
distractions are all part of focus. Agree?
Let’s focus on the business side of focus this month. All the focus in the world, staying in the
present and having a “positive outcome” may not be enough. Why? If your boss, board or the person
in power does not know about your success, if you have not shared your story (whether good or
bad), this person may not know or remember or may have been too busy. You may say, “How can
that be?” Rest assured, being pro-active when it comes to your job is the best way to proceed.
Sometimes the golf season goes in cycles that you cannot control. Remember the spring? How were
your rounds/revenue? How many days were you open? The weather creates so many unforeseen
obstacles. Are you tracking your rounds played/ days open for play? And now, when the weather is
beautiful and rounds/revenue are improving, the memory of the decision makers may be a little hazy
as to what the spring was like.
Your “follow through” has to be done in the form of a formal report in my opinion. You must ask
for a review to tell the story of 2013 so you can quantify the variables that happened throughout the
year and what you did. If you cannot do this, who can? Remember - if not me, then who? If not
now- WHEN?
