2015 AJF Sponsorship Kit
2015 CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP
MAY 22 - 24, 2015
MAY 22 – MAY 24, 2015
OVERVIEW
The Atlanta Jazz Festival is an annual celebration of music, art and culture, highlighting the
heritage of jazz music. The Atlanta Jazz Festival includes a series of events beginning in
March of each year and culminating each Memorial Day weekend, in one of the largest free
jazz festivals in the country.
HISTORY
Atlanta Jazz Festival was established with the help of Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson in
1978. The city’s commitment was to present a free jazz festival – straight ahead, avantgarde, improvisational, harmonically and rhythmically complex and beautiful. It would
showcase the best performers of “pure” jazz, eschewing the genre blends.
Thirty-seven years later, the Atlanta Jazz Festival has stayed true to that mission. As the
genre has birthed many other forms, jazz still lives on and continues to evolve in its truest
form. Atlanta Jazz Festival is one of the few places in the country where masses of music
enthusiasts, families and culture lovers gather year after year to hear and experience this
great American musical tradition.
MAY 22 – MAY 24, 2015
MISSION
The mission of Atlanta Jazz Festival is to present the rich heritage of
jazz music and to educate the community on jazz as an original form
of American culture.
Produced by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs,
Atlanta Jazz Festival presents a variety of outlets to experience and
learn about jazz music with the Memorial Day Weekend concert and
festival as the culminating event.
Beginning in the month of March, Atlanta Jazz Festival has evolved
into a season of educational, social and community events with jazz
music as the unifying influence.
The Atlanta Jazz Festival is a destination event for the city which
attracts music lovers from around region and the country.
“The Atlanta
Jazz Festival is
our homage to
the legacy and
tradition of a
true American
art form.”
– Mayor Kasim Reed

FESTIVAL SEASON | MARCH - APRIL
MARCH 2015
Youth Jazz Band Competition
The Atlanta Jazz Festival’s Youth Jazz Band
Competition - launched in 2001 - highlights high
school jazz bands from all over metropolitan Atlanta
who compete for a scholarship for their school
music programs, and for an opportunity to perform
on the festival main stage during the Memorial
Weekend concert.
Competition sponsors for 2014 included Bank of
America and Publix Super Markets.
APRIL 2015
AJF Press Conference
Atlanta Jazz Festival is a tradition founded by one
of Atlanta’s most visionary leaders, Mayor Maynard
Jackson. Each year the festival is launched with a
press conference hosted by the Mayor of Atlanta.
Special guests of the city and the press are invited
to a private reception where the AJF official artwork
is presented, the lineup for the festival is officially
announced and a feature jazz artist performs.
MAY 22 – MAY 24, 2015
FESTIVAL SEASON | MAY
MAY 2015
AJF 31 Days of Jazz
Throughout the month of May, Atlanta Jazz Festival
partners with restaurants, lounges and entertainment
venues around the city to present the best in local
jazz. These intimate concerts and special evenings
are a highlight of the AJF season.
Neighborhood Jazz Series
The Neighborhood Jazz Series is an Atlanta Jazz
Festival signature concert series held every weekend
in the month of May. Each Neighborhood Jazz
Series mini concert is presented by a City of Atlanta
Councilmember in a neighborhood park within their
district. This series brings the jazz experience into
communities throughout the city while giving families
an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Atlanta's parks. Jazz Education Workshops
Jazz Education Workshops, held throughout the
concert weekend, aim to educate the community
about the history of jazz as well as the future of the
genre. In 2014, Roy Hargrove led a trumpet
workshop and the Airmen of Note discussed effective
rehearsal strategies, just to name a few of the
presented classes.
Late Night Jazz Jam
After enjoying all-day jazz presented in Piedmont
Park, contemporary jazz music lovers make their way
to the highly anticipated Late Night Jazz Jam. This
live jam session features an exciting contemporary
jazz artist, as well as a DJ who melds popular music
with jazz standards for a musical experience that both
preserves and celebrates jazz music’s history of late
night jamming. MAY 22 – MAY 24, 2015
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND CONCERT
AJF 2015 FRIDAY MAY 22 SATURDAY MAY 23 SUNDAY MAY 24 3 Day Concert Main Stage International Stage Arts Market Food Concessions Jazz Education Series Kid's Zone VIP Lounge For 37 years, Memorial Weekend has been reserved for Atlanta Jazz
Festival with multiple days of free music, food, art and family fun as
200,000+ music lovers descend on Piedmont Park.
In 2015, the Atlanta Jazz Festival will open on Friday, May 22 with
an evening concert that kicks off the festival and the holiday weekend.
Saturday and Sunday will be full days of performance, beginning in
the afternoon and running into the late evening.
The jazz festival Main Stage features some of the top named jazz
performers in the country. In past years, Herbie Hancock, Ahmad

jazz festival Main Stage.
The International Stage features musicians from all over the world
including Cuba, France, South America, Africa, and Mexico. This

Between the two stages, patrons walk through our Arts Marketplace,
where they look forward to scouting rare finds and collectible art works
directly from local artists. And no festival is complete without funnel
cakes and slushies! AJF Concessions feature all of those edible
summertime favorites that make festival memories.
The Jazz Education Series is also part of the weekend festival. Jazz
artists present masterclasses, and panel discussions with jazz
historians, artists and educators inform patrons about the heritage of
jazz and its impact on many aspects of modern culture.
Families enjoy our Kid’s Zone with games and activities throughout
the afternoon in the Piedmont Park Meadow. Our artists and special
