OUR MISSION
We, the Parish Community of Holy
Spirit Catholic Church, are a family of
many cultural backgrounds. Our mission is to enrich the spiritual life of all
parishioners, through the active participation in prayer and the sacraments,
promoting opportunities to grow in
faith and hope, and providing a place to
come together in the love of God and
neighbor. We are committed to the
needs of our parishioners and to reach
beyond to serve the needs of others.
We are called by the Spirit to witness
the forgiving, healing and saving presence of Jesus as one Church and one
people. (Adopted January 12, 2006)

WEDDING BANNS
SUNDAY’S READING REFLECTION
‘Tis The Gift To Be Simply: The Shaker hymn describes a circular journey from innocence to innocence
with characteristic brevity:
’Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free.
’Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be.
This journey is easier sung about than done. It takes
humility and time to recover a second innocence. Titles, positions of honor, money, and power are not requirements of the kingdom of God. Jesus says and
demonstrates in today’s Gospel that members of God’s
kingdom must hold in their embrace the most inconsequential of persons, for that person is identified with
Jesus. This attitude ran counter to the intuition of the
world of Jesus’ time, as it does in ours.
The simplicity set forth by Jesus requires the shedding of unnecessary, unimportant, false, and burdensome attachments that earthly power demands. Membership in the Kingdom is light enough to put a song in
our heart.
Praying With The Word: Lord God, teach us to serve
and not be served, so that we might be faithful followers of Jesus, freed from passions that lead to violence
and hatred. Amen.

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE
Legislative Alert: Physician Assisted Suicide, opposed by the Catholic Church, has been repeatedly voted DOWN in the last 25 years, and most recently in the
CA Legislature. However, proponents will NOT take
NO for an answer and re-introduced the bill as AB X215, The End of Life Option Act! It passed the Senate
and is on a 'fast track' to the Govenor's desk to sign into
law by Oct. 11. Please call his office to oppose this
bill: (916) 445-2841 or write:
Governor Jerry Brown, c/o State Capitol,
Suite 1173, Sacramento, CA 95814
email: stateinfo@state.ca.gov
Also, express your objection to tax money funding
Planned Parenthood to subsidize their abor tion industry and harvesting of baby organs for profit! These
are easy, but powerful ways to impact our lawmakers
on life decisions. One letter to your senator or assemblyman represents 100 more of their constituents! Go
online to find them! Let's do OUR part.
CHILDREN’S CHOIR
Bi-monthly rehearsal will be on
Wednesday at 6:45pm in the Music
Room for all children ages 5-13.
Our rehearsals will resume on Wednesday, September
23. The schedule for all rehearsal dates will be given at
the first gathering. For more info., please call Carla at
(714) 963-1811, Ext. 124.
October is Respect Life Month
The annual National Life Chain
will be held on Sunday, October 4,
3:00 - 4:00pm. This hour of peaceful,
silent prayer is a public witness to our
community that abortion is wrong and
that the church is opposed to the killing of unborn children.
The Respect Life Committee invites you to line the sidewalks along
Euclid and Warner, forming a
cross. Prayer signs for participants to
hold will be available. For more information, please call Nelly Protzner
at (714) 316 - 6844.

una cruz. Cartelones de oraciones
