8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Each seminar runs from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Participants who successfully complete one of the pre-conference seminars will receive
7.5 CEHs. They may be applied toward ISM recertification and/or reaccreditation program requirements. (Lunch is included)
Seminar A
Supplier Performance
and Remedies — How
Do I Get My Supplier To
Deliver Quality Goods
and Services On Time?
Speaker: Kenneth D. Martin, JD, CPP, CIPN
This seminar will discuss the legal side of
managing your supplier. Case studies and
examples illustrating the application of the
legal and contractual remedies and techniques for obtaining compliant supplier
performance will be discussed.
The 5 key objectives for attending are to:
• Understand the legal and contractual
performance obligations of suppliers
• Learn the legal and contractual remedies available to buyers
• Learn how to reserve and preserve your
legal and contractual rights
• Learn how to avoid supplier remedies
for buyer breaches
• Discuss practical business solutions and
alternatives
Seminar B
Total Cost Analysis:
Generating Best in
Class Results
Speaker: Omid Ghamami, MBA
Purchasing professionals have been led
to believe that only behavioral influence
strategies are needed for negotiation
success. Nothing could be further from
the truth. The need to have a balanced
approach involving both behavioral negotiation strategies as well as a cost analysis
strategy is taught in this seminar.
You will learn how to:
• Recognize, pursue, track, and report
the various types of cost savings
• Recognize and categorize the various
types of costs when doing cost analysis
• Develop different types of cost models
(must cost, should cost, total cost, and
benchmarking) for pre-negotiations
data analysis
2
• Understand how to take costs out of
the supply chain instead of simply
focusing on reducing supplier profit
margins
• Use an analytical approach to determine opening and bottom line positions in negotiations
• Couple these data based strategies
with behavioral negotiation strategies
to drive ultimate influence
Seminar C
Supply Chain Business
Continuity: Plotting a
Course to Manage
Supply Chain Risk
Speaker: Betty Kildow, FBCI, CBCP
A well-monitored supply chain in any
business is key to productivity and profit.
But each link in that chain is its own entity,
subject to its own ups, downs, and business realities. If one falters, every other
link—and the entire chain—becomes
vulnerable. This seminar identifies the
different phases of business continuity
program development and maintenance
as well as how to recognize and mitigate
potential threats, risks, and hazards.
You Will Learn:
• The Business Continuity Planning
Lifecycle
• A phased approach to business
continuity planning
• Basic steps to develop, implement,
and maintain a business continuity
program
• How to identify common continuity
reality gaps
• Questions to ask to verify a supplier’s
continuity and risk management
capability
• Steps to develop supplier partnerships
in managing risk
• How to conduct a supply chain
business continuity review
• Seven exceptionally good business
continuity practices

Value Analysis for Supply Chain Professionals
John Hazard, C.P.M., CPP
In today’s highly competitive marketplace, you must constantly look
for the best price and best value. This workshop shows how value
analysis (VA) can be applied to everyday situations, and will guide
the participants toward innovation, process improvements, standardization and simplification. Real life examples will show how VA can
make the difference in profitability through the reduction of waste,
improved workflow, reduced operating costs, and product improvements for both the organization and the customer.

Track 2
Straight Talk: Communicating With Honesty and Integrity
Larry Johnson
Let’s face it. Straight, honest, no nonsense communication in organizations today is more rare than common. Whether it’s fear of reprisal,
natural timidity, or not wanting to hurt someone’s feelings, many of
us avoid telling the truth when the truth needs to be told. The same
applies to many of those who work for us. The cost of such reticence
can be high. If managers can’t get honest feedback from their associates, they, like the emperor in the fable of the “Emperor’s New
Clothes,” will make foolish decisions. If associates can’t get honest
feedback from their managers, they don’t improve, and their poor
performance devalues the organization. In this dynamic, fast-moving
and humorous session, learn how to enhance your leadership skills
by establishing a new standard of communication that encourages
honest and candid discussions, frank expression of opinions, and
healthy debate. A standard that does not mince words, insists on
accountability, respects the dignity of others and is guided by a clear
sense of ethic.

Workshops
Track 3
SRM-Supplier Relationships Are Much More Than an Acronym
Mickey North Rizza
This session will introduce a framework from which to build and
manage a supplier relationship management program. SRM — a
process utilized to facilitate supplier’s interactions. This session
focuses on successful supplier relationships, the building of successful relationships and the management and collaboration of supplier relationship programs through the use of case studies of the
good, bad, and ugly supplier relationships.
Track 4
Developing a Roadmap for Mentoring and Coaching in Your
Organization
Ronald P. Emery, C.P.M.
Mentoring and coaching are processes that help your team fulfill
its potential that lead to bottom line results. How does one distinguish personal mentorship from an organizational objective and
apply it personally? How can you take true and tried techniques and
apply them to your organization for success? What are the benefits
of a mentor and coaching relationship? Learn how individuals are
attracted to the individual they perceive to have “the golden keys”
to success. This session provides real life examples, mentoring and
coaching strategy and a checklist that can be implemented
immediately.
Track 5
Negotiating and Understanding Transportation Pricing – It’s
More Than Just Discounts and Fuel Surcharges
George Yarusavage, C.P.M., CTL, CPIM, CISCM
The more you know about your carrier’s cost and pricing practices,
the better you can negotiate a fair price. How do you know if a carrier’s discount gives you favorable, or even fair, net prices? Is that
fuel surcharge also fair—or even accurate? Why is the cost of fuel so
much more important to a truckload carrier than to an LTL carrier or
intermodal provider? Are accessorial charges really the place where
carrier profits are made? In this workshop, explore the answers to
these questions, as well as study the major cost elements, which
support each transportation mode. Learn how and where to find carrier cost information and also which prices are negotiable in today’s
environment and which ones are not. At the end, you will learn how
to protect your company against unfavorable freight rate changes
and emerge with the tools and knowledge needed to deal with carriers in today’s sellers’ market.
November 12-14, 2014
Session B — 1:15 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Track 1
Scanning the Horizon: The Ongoing Quest to Improve Supply
Risk Management
Betty A. Kildow, FBCI, CBCP
In today’s changing world, it is important to avoid “a check-the-box
and forget it” approach to supply continuity planning. This session
discusses new approaches and tools and encourages continually
improving supply/business continuity planning. This includes identifying supply chain risk outliers, adopting standards and certifications
that address supply risk, and taking a more proactive approach to
the continuity planning process. Discussions will focus on two global
standards, ISO 22301 and ISO 28000. To quote Will Rogers, “Even if
you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”
Track 2
Ethics, Compliance and Business Conduct — What Do They Mean
For Me and My Suppliers?
Kenneth Martin JD, CPP, CIPN
Does your organization operate in an ethical, legally compliant,
and professional manner? Does it require suppliers to commit to
your code of ethics and to promote the same high standards in
their supply chains? Since the 1980s, many forces have combined
to bring about a strong focus on ethics, compliance, and business
conduct by virtually every organization. These typically result in a
written policy or code that sets standards for conduct that regulate
business transactions and create mechanisms for addressing violations. This session will cover the purpose and content of ethics policies and codes, commonly encountered ethical dilemmas, the legal
and business consequences of violations, and the applicability of
these standards to your suppliers and the supply chain. The legal
and contractual business standard of “good faith and fair dealing”
will be defined and explained, as well as the role of organizations
such as the Ethics & Compliance Officers Association, the Defense
Industry Initiative, the U.S. Sentencing Commission, and Transparency International.
Track 3
How to Lower Your Equipment Rental Costs by One-ThirdParadigm Shift
Mark Bishop, CPSM and Gordon McDonald
This session explores cost drivers, effective cost reduction techniques, standard tools, cost analysis and other key factors in
implementing an equipment management program. Learn what
techniques are most effective to pull these cost levers and get an
overview of the available technology, from web-based reporting to
ERP integration. Discussion will also include management by exception techniques and a debate on multiple sourcing versus partnering
with a preferred supplier.

Building A Profitable Procurement Team — How to Find, Develop,
and Employ the Right People to Make Your Supply Chain Profitable
Dr. Randall M. Mauldin, DBA, CPSM, PMP
Supply chain managers require a diverse team of experts to manage
resources to meet the demands of business. Knowing how to build
a team focused on strategic sourcing gives organizations a competitive advantage and higher profits. To incorporate the diverse
backgrounds into a balanced team focused on long-term success,
you need to manage the five phases of team development. Effective
Team Leaders manage these five phases by being masters of communication and adapting their communication style to the audience
they are speaking to. This session will show you how to develop a
strategic sourcing team, manage the five phases of team development, different communication personas, and how to speak with
your team to achieve results

As 3PLs grow in sophistication and market acceptance, the differences between a great 3PL partner and a poor one have become
more pronounced. It is important to use a structured approach to
selecting a 3PL. In this session, the top 10 criteria for a selecting a
3PL will be reviewed and discussed, including types of 3PL services
and 3PL business models. At the end of this session, you will be
able to select the best 3PL for your company’s needs using a simple
approach that considers the most important 3PL attributes.

Track 2
Negotiation and Supply Management
Henry Garcia, CPSM, C.P.M., A.P.P.
Opportunities to negotiate arise everyday — at home, at work, when
among friends and colleagues, and even oneself. In other occasions
a negotiation can be very impactful, like purchasing a car or asking a
boss for a raise. However, purchasing and supply management professionals use negotiations in various circumstances from securing
goods and services from suppliers to engaging in Alternate Dispute
Resolution processes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
are an integral part of your professional skill set, and excellent negotiation skills complement and enhance this skill set. Learn how to
choose between distributive (win-lose) negotiation and integrative
(win-win) negotiation, define measurable and realistic expectations
and evaluate the effectiveness of a negotiation against these expectations, as well as benchmark your negotiation skills to identify key
areas for future development.
Track 3
How to Pass Internal Audits With Flying Colors — Every Time
Omid Ghamami, MBA
All purchasing organizations are subject to internal audit; which
impact all levels of the organization. Have you ever scrambled to
prepare for an internal audit and hoped they wouldn’t find certain
things? Have you had actions forced onto you by the internal audit
organization that were wrong for the business? Learn how to speak
their language and how to shift the conversation to tutorial from
instructional. There is a big caveat though: They will only do this if
you follow the risk assessment and controls methodology taught in
this session. No matter where you are in your career, if your organization conducts internal audits, this workshop will be a great benefit to
you.
Track 4
Zap the Supply Management Generational Gap! Super Strategies to Engage, Hire, Train and Motivate Across the Generational
Spectrum
Larry Johnson and Meagan Johnson
Right now is an exciting time! There are three generations in the
workplace: Baby Boomers–raised during Vietnam, Gen Xers–raised
in single parent homes, and Gen Yers–raised on the internet. Each
generation has been influenced by the major historical events, social
trends, and cultural phenomena of their time (which we call generational signposts). Consequently, each has different values, quality
standards, and attitudes toward customers, co-workers, and job
requirements. This session provides insights and tips on how to vary
your managerial style to bring out the best performance from each
generation.

Risk Management: Supply Chain and Transportation Risk
Stuart Rosenberg
Risk management is looking for events or issues which could
cause the supply chain any disruptions and coming up with a
plan to minimize and mitigate any loss due to these disruptions.
Potential risks in the transportation and movement of goods are
natural disasters, mechanical failures, or even customs issues. To
help mitigate risk, it is best to have alternate sources of transportation, such as a second source for shipping, along with alternate
routes or methods of transportation. This session will help you
identify and prioritize critical business elements, map your supply
chain to show interdependencies, identify potential failure points,
and determine if it is necessary to utilize risk managers to audit
the various supply chain components.

Session D — 9:15 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Track 1
Time to Tune the Engine: A Look Under the Hood of High
Performance Organizations
Mickey North Rizza
High-performance organizations consistently outperform competitors and realize bottom-line impact from their human capital
functions. As Michael Hammer said “the best-designed process
has no chance of survival when people aren’t aligned around the
process and its goals.” High performance organizations align
around common goals like gears in an engine. Let’s look under
the hood of high performing organizations, share common missteps and innovative techniques and provide insights to tune
your own business to a high performing organization. Takeaways
include the Ten Attributes of High Performance Organizations and
case studies from low to high performance.
Track 2
Managing Fraud Risks in Procurement and Contracting
John Hall, CPA
All business entities have fraud risks – exposures in procurement
and contracting often top the list of what can go wrong! Among
these risks is the possibility that others will take unfair advantage
of the buyer-seller relationship, entice employees into questionable practices, and commit wrongful acts or outright fraud. This
session addresses fraud risks inherent in procurement and contracting, and will present solutions for managers interested in
guarding their organizations against the costs and other negative
consequences of misconduct and fraud. Case examples will highlight what can go wrong, and what participants can do about it in
their own organizations.
November 12-14, 2014
Track 3
Price Indexing — How To Use the BLS Website to Calculate
Your Price Adjustment
Jim Haining, CPSM, CPSD, C.P.M., A.P.P.
Learn why price indexing is important, how to select the correct
price index, and learn how to use the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website to calculate your price adjustment. Want the
best prices in your contracts from day one? Confused by price
indexes and which one to use? At price adjustment time, not sure
the supplier is asking for a fair reasonable price adjustment? You
will learn to use price index numbers to make the price adjustments necessary to analyze price and cost information collected
over time. In this session, attendees will take away sample price
adjustment language to help develop their own contract language and easy to follow instructions to determine price index
changes using the BLS website.
Track 4
GEN-Y Now: How It Changes Your Workplace and Why It
Requires a New Leadership Style
Rita Cardenas, C.P.M., A.P.P, CPCP, CTM
There are over 80 million millennials and they are transforming
the modern workforce. They bring advanced degrees, technical
skills, diversity, and consumer experience — all of which your
organization can benefit from. Due to the shrinking labor pool,
the high cost of replacing workers, and the negative impact of
losing knowledge capital, it is imperative that you have a strategy
to keep the talented Gen Y employee, as well as a strategy to
effectively compete for every new Gen Y employee that you will
need to bring on board. In this session, you will learn about Gen
Y, understand their six key skills, and how to interview them. As a
result, you will increase your millennial organizational awareness
and learn why your leadership style needs to change as it pertains
to this generation.
Track 5
How Transportation Trends are Influencing Shipper Choices in
Today’s Marketplace
Ronald P. Emery, C.P.M.
Effective transportation management is a key contributor to
today’s supply chain organizations’ bottom line. With the focus
on lower inventories and forecasting issues—along with changing
customer demands and expectations, transportation and logistics
is now playing a key role within your operation. Therefore, developing a strategic approach to transportation management is key
with answers to the following questions. What is Transportation
Management Systems (TMS) and when might that make sense to
look at and deploy? What are the options available? How might
we look for outsourcing help and what can be most effective solution for our organization? How do you provide enough flexibility
in your supply chain to satisfy stakeholders’ needs? What tools are
available to help us make the right decisions at optimum cost?
In this session, learn how an effective TMS — people, process,
and technology — can be combined into an effective strategic
transportation solution for your organization by use of a useful
checklist.

Track 1
How To Build A Culture Of Employee Accountability
Larry Johnson
Learn how to instill in employees a sense of ownership for their
jobs and strategy for creating a culture of accountability and
responsibility. Do some of your employees see what needs to
be done and take responsibility to do it while others either don’t
see it or do see it and choose to not to act? Do some of your
employees accept blame for their mistakes while others always try
to blame others? Do some employees learn from their mistakes
and improve, while others seem to never learn? If you answered
yes to any of these questions, this session will give you the tools
and insights to turn these situations around.
Track 2
How to Write Performance Agreements that Improve Supplier
Results and TCO
Omid Ghamami, MBA
Purchasing professionals often follow the practice of adding SOW
and specification terms to their standard goods and services
contract, then negotiate any supplier changes, and submit it to
the legal department as required; and consider the end result
a good contract. However, the standard contract is designed to
buy goods and services when what you want to be buying is performance results. A legal department approved contract may in
fact still provide endless headaches for purchasing professionals
because they are mostly looking for things that have little or no
bearing on performance results. In this session, you will learn the
difference between buying goods and services versus buying performance results; and which clauses are targets for being modified to enable this transition, as well as in what ways you should
modify them. The takeaway is you can lessen your time allocation
to your contracted suppliers while generating better results, at
the same time, by using the techniques taught.
Track 3
Strategic Sourcing Planning — How to Develop a Strategic
Plan that Transforms Your Supply Chain From Tactical
Transactions to Strategic Sourcing
Dr. Randall M. Mauldin, DBA, CPSM, PMP
Track 4
Learn What Drives You and Get Others to Ride Along
Anne McGurty
Research shows that the most successful people share the
common trait of self-awareness. They recognize the situations that
will make them successful, and this makes it easy for them to find
ways of achieving objectives that fit their behavioral style. They
also understand their limitations and where they are not effective
and this helps them understand where not to go or how not to
be as well. Those who understand their natural behavioral preferences are far more likely to pursue the right opportunities, in the
right way and right time to get the results they desire. If you want
to understand the true holdbacks to your achieving success and
how to align with your unique style faculties for not only great
outcomes but a life of achievement, this session is for you. In this
session you’ll take an assessment to find out your natural behavioral style and personality type along with individual coaching. A
$250 value is yours free for attending this session.
Track 5
Contracting for Transportation and Logistics Management
Services: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
George Yarusavage, C.P.M., CTL, CPIM, CISCM
Kenneth D. Martin, J.D., CPP, CIPN
This session will open with a review of the differences between
contracts for goods vs. contracts for services. Transportation expert
George and legal contracts expert Ken — will offer insights with
emphasis on the special elements and contract provisions peculiar
to transportation and logistics management services. They will then
examine what constitutes breach of contract, when service failures
become partial or full breaches, and which remedies are available
and appropriate in today’s transportation marketplace. This session will be advice on how to proactively avoid or mitigate service
failures which could lead to breaches. Next, you will look at specific
areas of concern with carriers including: assignment of contracts,
bankruptcy and the definition of temporary inability to perform.
Other takeaways include discussion and guidance on tactical transportation failures and how to avoid them (or mitigate their effects)
and carriers turning down load assignments at the last minute.
Supply Chain Leaders must transform from a focus on tactical
transactions to strategic sourcing because businesses that manage
their supply chain are 73% more profitable. You will learn a process that ensures your team considers all factors. Planning is not
enough; execution is what counts. In order to execute the plan,
we will discuss how to develop management tools that measure
results and tell us when to take action. Even with a good plan and
effective management tools, you need deliberate communication
to build consensus and achieve buy-in from your organization. This
session will show you the communication strategies needed to
get resources from executives, support from other business units,
and buy-in from your suppliers so they know exactly what to do in
order to maintain their successful relationship with you.
