Swim lessons meet once a week for 7 weeks. The 4th week of
class parents will receive a Program Evaluation, this is your
opportunity to tell us what we are doing well and how we can
improve your child’s swimming lesson experience. During the 6th
week of class our instructors will provide you with a
recommendation for enrollment for the next session. This will
allow you to select the level that is right for your child’s skill
progression.
July 6 – July 9
Our refund policy allows for a full refund prior to the start of
the class and a 75% refund after the first class. After the start
of the second class no refund will be given.
Make-ups will only be given for classes missed due to holidays
and if the Y has to cancel a class. Make-ups will be held during
the prep week. Classes missed due to inclement weather will not
be made up or given a credit. A credit towards a future Aquatic
Program will only be given for illness if the Y is provided with a
doctor’s note. If the YMCA holds class but your child is absent,
we do not provide make-ups or refunds.
Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled or combined. You
will be contacted in the event that this happens and provided
with alternatives.
LESSON LEVELS
Our program is divided by age and skill levels. Listed under each
level you will find the key skills taught in that level. Advancing
to the next level is dependent on the child’s completion of
required skills.
Children learn & progress at their own rate so please don’t be
discouraged if your child doesn’t complete all the level skills
during any one session. Children need to know it’s acceptable to
take as much time as necessary to master these skills.
Swim lessons are more beneficial when they are treated as a
continuous program. The skills and techniques children learned
during each lesson needs to be practiced. The best way to
ensure their progression is to have them participate in year
round swim lessons.

PROGRAMMING WITH A PURPOSE
SWIMMING
Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury
death for children ages 1 to 14 years, and the fifth leading
cause for people of all ages. (Source: Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC)). Therefore, once a week our
Aquatics staff will provide instructional swim to all campers. All
campers are swim tested on their first day of camp to ensure
aquatic safety of all campers.
READING & JOURNALING
Research has shown that kids
who aren’t engaged during the
summer can digress in their
reading and writing skills. In
2014, campers read for
over1200 hours while at Camp
Discovery.
In 2014, our campers helped break a Guinness World
Record for the worlds largest swim lesson
