MN High School Clay Target League
This year over 60 area students participated in the new
High School shooting sport program. Sponsored in part
by Pheasants Forever, this program is enjoyed by 3 teams
from the area. Willmar, New London and Prinsburg Central MN Christian School.
The sport has continued to grow in the state with more
than 10,000 student athletes expected to compete in the
2015 league. The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League, which started in 2000, doubled its participation numbers from a year ago last fall. Last fall the league
hosted 1,770 participants from 68 high school trap teams
and 13 high school skeet shooting teams.
The annual youth shoot brought out plenty of young interested shooters. They all enjoyed learning and shooting clay targets, then visited
the Little Crow Archers and shot a few arrows. Everyone enjoyed a
meal then a drawing for a couple of guns.

Recap of the Willmar team,
Last spring we had 30 students that participated in the spring season.
Of those students, they all shot a total of 10 weeks and the Alexandria
championship. The competitors shot a total of 23 rounds of trap or a
total of 575 shells each. The championship in Alexandria was held on
June 9th for our division, AA (goes by school size). Of those kids we
had 15 novice, 10 junior varsity and 5 varsity. The JV squad took 4th
place in class AA division. Scores averaged 15-20% higher in Alexandria than in weekly competition. This season we are expecting close to
100 participants.
