Although children may seem independent, in order for the emotional bond with their parents to be healthy, they require direct affection and attention on a daily basis. When parents show their children direct attention and affection this time period is called quality time. Without doing any activities that block your visual and audial attention such as watching television, cooking, conversing with a friend , with showing your full attention to your child, physically and mentally lowering yourself to their level and spending one‐on‐one time with them, you may regard this as quality time. As well as playing directly with your child; feeding them, replacing their diaper, bathing them or changing their clothes can also be classified as quality time. Times like this will help your child to feel self‐acknowledged and will improve the sense of trust with their relationship with their parents. A child who has developed a safe bond with their parent will be able to pull away from their parents when necessary with a sense of confidence. Another very important concept in child development is spending parallel time with them. Although educated parents in our community are generally knowledgeable about quality time, they usually are not aware of the concept of parallel time and tend to overlook the importance of this type of interaction. Parallel time is; being at a certain physical intimacy with your child, being in the same environment however during this time doing separate activities such as while you are reading a book your child may be on the swings or playing with his toys.
