Oops. Please accept apologies — and, I’m afraid, plan to pay $25 rather than $15 for the NA February luncheon. Last
month I shared the Board’s plan to pay down part of our excess reserves by covering a significant portion of the costs of
our February and June 2013 luncheons. After some procedural confusion, we now have determined that doing so would
run afoul of our Standing Rule 1. The Board will rethink what to do with the organization’s excess reserves. Stay tuned,
but please be patient as we regroup, starting with our November Board meeting.
The February luncheon will still be quite the bargain — and quite the elegant affair. It will be held at Loews Annapolis
Hotel on February 20 (reservation form in next month’s newsletter), with a theme of “Champagne, Roses and Rosalie.”
Who’s Rosalie? Find out next month when we announce some very special early 2013 plans.
Be an angel: Please, please bring nonperishable baby items (or a cash/check donation) to the December 5 General
Meeting. Our thoughtful Community Outreach members will pass your donations on to our local Food Link Emergency
Baby Pantry. This worthwhile charity meets the urgent needs of babies suffering from poverty and family crises. What
better way to get into the holiday spirit? See details in the Community Outreach section of this newsletter.
We give thanks… It’s our good fortune to have been spared the worst of Hurricane Sandy. Keeps everything in

full year after joining.

gathering, starting at 1 p.m. More detailed information

group is from the Dover, Del., area
and is part of the Free
State Harmonizers.
Our December 5 optional lunch
will be at The Wild Orchid Café,
located in the Severn Bank Building,

Westgate Circle. There is free parking. We will have
complimentary champagne and a choice of a crab cake
sandwich with salad; butternut squash soup and half a
turkey club; Wild Orchid salad with grilled chicken or
salmon quiche with salad. A platter of holiday sweets
will be on each table, and soda, coffee and tea are
included. The cost is $20 payable in cash when you sign
up in the church’s lobby prior to the General Meeting.

As of November 9, we have 563 members, with about
68.5 percent of the membership receiving the monthly
newsletters by email. Thank you for making our
workloads easier with this decision.
During the next few weeks, while we are busy with
holiday gift giving, please think of the gift of friendship
that a New Annapolitans membership bestows on each
of us. If you know anyone who recently moved to the
Greater Annapolis area and has expressed an interest in
joining New Annapolitans, please provide the
information for joining NA and ask her to contact me or
refer her to the New Annapolitans’ comprehensive
website, www.annapolitans.org, where the new member
application may be downloaded.
This is the absolute eleventh hour for any members who
have yet to renew their membership. We will only
accept membership renewals until the end of this
calendar year. If you wish to renew now that the July 1
deadline has long passed, please note payments must
include late fees (a $10 reinstatement fee plus a $5-permonth fine for July and each subsequent month), so the
amount due will be:
 $65 in November
 $70 in December
After December 31, renewals are not accepted. Members
are not eligible to rejoin after December 31 of the year
their membership lapses.
Hopefully, everyone has received the 2012-2013 NA
Membership Directory & Bylaws, as they were mailed in
mid-October. If you have not received your copy, please
send me an email.

The holidays are rapidly approaching! It’s a time of
giving and receiving. Don’t forget our Community
Outreach Interest Group. For ten years, they have
worked very hard to raise money for women’s and
children’s charities in Anne Arundel County. They will
be collecting baby items for Food Link at our December
meeting. Check out their information on page 6 of this

donate to this worthy cause. As with all our interest
groups, Community Outreach always welcomes new

All interest groups are voluntary and self-sustaining.
When participating in an interest group activity in a member’s home, please give the hostess a minimum of three
days for reservations or cancellations.
No reservations may be taken until an event is announced in the newsletter.
No refunds will be given for cancellations unless there are replacements from the waiting list. If there is no
waiting list or other replacements from the membership, no refund will be given.

Some interest groups use the parking area of
Marshalls, 152 Jennifer Rd., Annapolis, when
they carpool for day trips. Marshalls allows
this, but asks that you notify their management
company three days in advance. Call Beatson

who answers know of your plans. This policy
applies only to NA groups. Overnight parking
is not permitted. Like all mall parking, you
leave your car at your own risk.

returning women students trying to acquire job skills.

Happy Hackers is a group of beginning and intermediate
golfers who enjoy getting together on Thursday mornings
(we occasionally play on Tuesday morning instead of
Thursday) for nine holes of golf at different golf courses.
We will continue to play as long as the weather holds,
though we may start at a later tee time. Please look for
your emails on Sunday evenings with the arrangements
for the week. Even if you have not played with us before,

This month MLC will
celebrate the holiday
season with two events:
Sunday, December 2 at 3 p.m.: We’ll attend a special
Holiday Concert of traditional and contemporary
seasonal music presented jointly by the Arundel Vocal
Arts Society and the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra
at Eastport United Methodist Church, 926 Bay Ridge
Ave., Annapolis. Tickets are $20 at the door or in
advance from Connie Petersen at 239-357-6277 or 410266-1320 or cpetersen4@mac.com. Each paying adult
entitles one school-age child to free admission. Seating is
open and no reservations are required.
Saturday, December 15 at 12:55 p.m.: There will be a
fully-staged Metropolitan Opera matinee performance of
Verdi’s grand opera, “Aida,” shown via live HD telecast
at the Cinemark Egyptian 24 theater at Arundel Mills
Plaza. This is a follow-up to last month’s MLC workshop
on “Aida.” Tickets are $24 adults/$22 seniors online in
advance from metopera.org; they also are available at the
door. Seating is open and no reservations are required.
Advance checks payable to New Annapolitans are not
needed for these events, but please call 410-224-8824 or

Program information and instructions about our meet-up
locations will be sent later by email.
The MLC is open to all New Annapolitans who love
music. This includes both active musicians and others
who simply enjoy listening to and supporting musical
activities in the Annapolis area. We provide opportunities
to perform, to host musical soirees, to attend daytime and
evening performances and to enjoy occasional group trips
to nearby musical events. For newcomers to Annapolis,
we also provide a comprehensive online resource list of
area performing arts organizations.
Members interested in joining MLC should email Nancie
Kennedy to be added to the group mailing list that
announces details of monthly meetings and events. Also,
please email performance announcements to Nancie, who
will circulate them to all MLC members.

NANAs enjoy walking outdoors and exploring Annapolis
and the greater metropolitan area. Each week’s walk is
planned and led by a member of the group. Once on the
NANAs’ email list, you will receive an email a few days
before a walk, confirming its time and meeting place.
The email notice is the definitive schedule, not the
tentative schedule published below. If you are new to the
NANAs, you might want to call either Jean or Gloria on
Sunday evening to be sure you have the updated
information. We walk in the Westfield Annapolis
Shopping Mall if it rains and meet at the sofas outside the
Nordstrom entrance.
December 4: Martha Sykora will lead a walk at
Greenbury Point, across the Severn River from the Naval
Academy. Take the first right after you cross the bridge
by the Naval Academy. We will meet at the little Nature
Center house on the right after you pass the golf course
and the large Brigade building on the right. Meeting time
is 9:30 a.m. Afterwards we’ll have coffee at the Navy
golf course clubhouse, which is right there. Contact

December 11: Holiday Party and
walk at Gloria Pressman’s home
and neighborhood. Meet at
9:30 a.m. at Gloria’s house,

and have our annual White Elephant

personal items for the Lighthouse Shelter would be

December 18: Cindy Hooper will lead an afternoon walk
in Eastport. We’ll meet at 3:30 p.m. at Cindy’s home in
Eastport: 512 Second St., Annapolis. There should be
enough street parking at that time. We will walk the
neighborhood and end up at the newly renovated Eastport
Yacht Club about 5-ish for drinks! It’s a short walk from

Recollections will not meet in December. Our next
meeting is January 28 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. If you have
been meaning to write down some of your memories for
your family, why not start with us. No one will judge
your grammar and you read your work aloud, so spelling
doesn’t count! In Recollections we write a one-to-two
page essay about a special memory. The topic is chosen
by the hostess of the month and we meet to read our
writings to the group.

Women on Water is a group of savvy sailors who get
together for fun day sails, primarily during the week. We
sail based on the availability of boats and skippers as well
