DEAR TRAVELER
YOUR VACATION
dear
TRAVELER
Ó
More than just a sensational vacation.
what do you look for
IN A VACATION?
Ó
It’s a chance to explore a world that few tourists ever get to see.
What do you see?
We provide everything you’ll need to have a memorable experience in another
culture - then step aside & let you interact with a place and its people.
Ê Quiet rural roads that wind through scenic countryside?
Ê A carpet of brilliant wildflowers with the peaks of the
French Alps in the distance?
Ê The ruins of an ancient civilization?
Ê A glorious dinner with friends in a 200-year-old village inn?
Ê Vineyards full of plump juicy grapes ready for harvest?
Ê Volcanoes spewing lava?
Ê Flamenco dancers?
Ê Bulls on the run in Pamplona?
Ê Howler monkeys calling through the rainforest?
Ê Penguins?
Ê Gelato?
Our signature “chalk arrow” navigation system allows you to bicycle on
the quietest country roads. We stay in small, authentic inns in the heart
of town. From Tuscany to Andalucia, from Russia to the Chilean island of
Chiloé, we experience local village life firsthand.

Ê Comfortable lodging in 3-4 star hotels (always with a private bath)
located in or near the town square for easy access to your favorite
café of the day.
Ê Breakfast daily, and most dinners, featuring multiple courses
with fresh, seasonal specialties & wine or beer (depending on the
culture).
Ê Superb tour leaders who are great fun, bilingual, bicultural experts,
and avid cyclists. They’re experienced to help you navigate
confidently on and off the road.
Ê Use of a high quality 24-27 speed bike - a road bike, hybrid, or
tandem (mountain bikes only in some locations) geared specifically
to cruise the flats and help ease you over the mountain.

Dinner anyone?
Whether you’re about to sample a local brie and Bordeaux in St. Emilion or
a seafood risotto in Venice, every multi-course meal on tour is a personal
introduction to your host country. Dining is an opportunity to taste and
experiment–and to laugh with new friends by your side. We select restaurants
and cafés that are authentic, welcoming, and off the beaten track.
Ó
comfortable lodging
How’s your room?
Our standards are similar for the hotels we choose. We’d rather stay in
a comfortable, three-star hotel in the historic center of town than in an
isolated luxury chain where your only local contact is the bartender.

lobster, someone asked ‘What course is
this?’ It was still the first course!”

THE RIGHT TOUR

FOR YOU
Ó
What kind of cyclist are you?
Ó
It doesn’t matter. We have tours designed for cyclists at every level
of experience and fitness. All of our trips are planned with options for
additional riding when you’re in the mood for a challenge - or if your partner
is a stronger rider and you’d rather take a shortcut to a shower and a nap
before dinner.
OFF THE BEATEN PATH
Ó
Level 101 These bike tours are great for beginners, and extra mileage is
available for more advanced friends who want to come along. Average 30-35 miles for 6 riding days; cumulative climbs
between 1,000-2000’ (often less).
CHALK ARROW NAVIGATION
Athletic children over the age of ten do well on our tours, and less athletic
children over 13 do well. Easier tours are often best for families with young
kids. Here are some family-friendly tours: Castles of the Loire Valley,
Venice-to-Florence, Bicycling Faenza to Verona across the Po Valley and
Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula Multisport. We often have three generations of
family members join us–Grandma, Granddad, Mom, Dad and kids–so age
makes no difference!
Ó
How challenging will my ride be?
We want you to feel thoroughly satisfied at the end of each day: not
exhausted and not craving more miles. In order to keep you feeling “just
right” we created a handy rating system to help you choose the trip bestsuited to your abilities.
Ó
FAMILY FRIENDLY
Singles Trips
Our “singles designated” trips are designed to bring together a diverse
group of solo travelers. Many of our regular departures attract people
traveling alone, so give us a call, and we’ll be happy to tell you the singlesto-couples ratio.
Ó
Custom and Private Tours
If our dates don’t fit your dates and you have 10-22 people, we will gladly
help you plan a fun, hassle-free vacation. From leisurely rides through
lavender fields in France’s Provence to cycling across South America, our
tours are great for groups of friends or family, cycling clubs, or business
and professional retreats. So if you have a special wish, give us a call and
we’ll brainstorm the perfect trip.
Level 301 Strong beginners and intermediate cyclists will do fine and
shuttles are available. Average 30-35 miles for 6-9 days; daily
climbs of 1,500-2000’ and several in excess of 3,000’.
TOURS FOR EVERYONE
Solo Travelers don’t pay extra.
Traveling alone but willing to share a room? We’ll find you a roommate. If we
can’t, we’ll pay the extra fee for your single room.
Level 201 Great for all levels, although beginners may want to shuttle
occasionally. Average 30-35 miles for 6-9 days, half of the
rides have climbs in excess of 2,000’.
Level 401 For advanced and intermediate cyclists seeking a challenge.
Less experienced cyclists may enjoy these trips by utilizing the
shuttle and by making their friends pay for the trip! 40 miles
for 10-12 days; a third of the rides will have climbs in excess
of 3,000’.
Family Friendly Vacations How old is old enough? How old is too old?
Are you a beginner who rides local bike trails once or twice a week? Are
you an athlete or a recreational cyclist who loves to travel by bike? Or are
you an avid, lifelong touring cyclist who thinks nothing of pedaling 80 or 90
miles into the mountains?

ÓDiscover Northern Argentina
Level 201
There’s more to do in Argentina than visit Patagonia! We start with three
days of glorious downhill riding on this 8-day tour. Located in the Rio Grande
Valley, this area has long been a major trade and cultural route between
Buenos Aires, Bolivia and Peru. Pedal paved roads through green valleys,
stopping to explore pre-Incan and Incan ruins, deserts, cloud forests, and
wine country. The grand finale is a ride through the twisted and dazzling
geological formations of Quebrada de las Conchas.

This trip extends the 8-day tour by 5 days and includes a visit to the most

through a lush tropical forest.
