As the 2009 NASCAR season draws toward a dramatic conclusion here in the “Valley of the Sun”, we are honored to host all of the fans, drivers, teams, sponsors and media for the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 Presented by Pennzoil weekend here at PIR – the semi-final stop in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. As we take a step closer to the season’s end, champions are emerging in not only the Sprint Cup Series here in Phoenix, but also in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. We will also celebrate the return of the famed Copper World Classic® with a pair of exciting USAC races, featuring the Silver Crown and Midget divisions. We want to thank our event sponsors, Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts, Able Body Labor and Lucas Oil. Their commitment to Phoenix International Raceway and to racing is significant and much appreciated. As the Southwest’s leader in motorsports, our staff is dedicated to making every effort to ensure your overall race experience at Phoenix International Raceway is the very best in all of professional sports. Like the drivers and crews competing on the track, our team here at PIR is constantly looking for ways to improve and get better. We continue to evaluate all aspects of our facility and customer service to make certain that we meet the high standards we have set for ourselves and that our patrons have come to expect. If there is anything you need assistance with while joining us for this exciting weekend of NASCAR® action, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a PIR staff member at any time. The Phoenix International Raceway experience is one-of-a-kind and something that race fans not only in the Valley of the Sun, but from all over the West and across the country come to Arizona to enjoy. To report any ticket discrepancies, please call the PIR Ticket Office at 1-866-408-RACE, or e-mail the Ticket Office at ticketoffice@phoenixinternationalraceway.com. Phoenix International Raceway® assumes no responsibility for lost, misplaced, or destroyed tickets, so please keep your tickets in a safe place. Replacement tickets will require full payment, and duplicate tickets will not be issued. Tickets obtained from sources other than Phoenix International Raceway may be lost, stolen, or counterfeit. In such cases, these tickets will not be honored. PIR prohibits the resale of tickets at any value on Raceway property. The initial purchaser is responsible for any subsequent resale of tickets. Any renewal privileges may be revoked if tickets are found to be resold on Raceway property or for a value higher than stated on the face of the ticket. Protect your tickets like they were cash! PIR has teamed with World Access to offer Event Ticket ProtectorSM Insurance to ticket buyers who are unable to attend PIR events due to unforeseen circumstances. The coverage, an optional purchase in addition to each race ticket, costs $6.25 per ticket and is available for all events at Phoenix International Raceway. With the insurance provided by World Access, fans will be reimbursed if a medical issue, traffic accident, jury duty, employment termination, requirement of work, or any other covered reasons prevents the insured from attending a race. Additional covered reasons are included in the policy. More information on the program can be found on the Web at www.phoenixraceway.com/insurance. Print at Home Tickets Choose PIR’s convenient “Print at Home” option when placing your order. Tickets are securely delivered to you in a link by e-mail as soon as you order. Please be sure to print your tickets from the link provided in the e-mail. Do not print the original e-mail message. You may reprint your tickets as often as you need, but only one ticket will be honored. Do not duplicate and distribute additional copies. Please bring the entire ticket with you and be prepared to have it scanned. Purchasing Tickets at the Track Tickets are available for purchase at the track at Gate 3, Gate 7 and Gate 8. The Gate 3 Ticket Office opens on Thursday of race week, and remains open throughout the weekend. Will Call Will Call is provided for tickets purchased in advance, but not received prior to the race. However, unforeseen circumstances or occurrences may cause the temporary or permanent change of some routes and patterns. PIR appreciates your flexibility before and after the event. All NASCAR® fans heading to PIR are welcome to park at Cricket Pavilion, where shuttle bus service will be provided to Gate 7 at the track. Parking and shuttle services to PIR will total just $7 per car. Guests with PIR-issued parking passes can Park ‘N Ride at no charge. Park ‘N Ride services will be available for 12 hours – from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. – on Sunday, November 15, giving all NASCAR fans an easy way both to and from the track, before and after the race. It is important to follow the guidance of law enforcement personnel at all times to ensure a safe and smooth flow of traffic. Park ‘N Ride buses will escort guests to PIR via preferential traffic routes, offering guests an easier arrival to the facility. Complete Arizona roadway information can be found at all times by dialing the Arizona Department of Transportation Freeway Management System at 511. Suggested Routes to Phoenix International Raceway® Traffic PIR’s Top 5 Traffic Tips 1. Use the Park ‘N Ride! The successful “Park ‘N Ride” program returns again Sunday, November 15 to Cricket Pavilion, located just two blocks north of I-10 on 83rd Avenue. 2. Follow your parking pass guidelines. If you have been issued a PIR parking pass, be sure to follow the specific guidelines printed on the back of the pass. Some parking passes have special routes that differ from general parking routes. Please make sure to display your parking pass before you arrive at PIR and leave your parking passes prominently displayed at all times so that they may be viewed clearly from the outside by track officials. 3. Read the guidelines within this guide. Suggested routes to PIR are detailed in the following pages, we encourage following these routes whenever possible. 4. Check the big picture. Read the message boards on Valley freeways; they’ll tell you the best way to get to the track and what you can expect along the way. 5. Leave early. Buy yourself some time starting with the front end of your trip; it’s the best way to ensure that you’ll be able to park close and be in your seat for pre-race ceremonies and the green flag. 12 Park ‘N Ride From the North - (I-17, Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona) Travel South on I-17 to Exit 214C and proceed West on Loop 101 Travel on Westbound/Southbound Loop 101 to I-10 Travel West on I-10 to Exit 128 (Litchfield Rd.) This makes access to all parking areas an easy right turn, rather than a left turn across traffic, which is important to maintain the smoothest flow of traffic on race day. Parking Daily parking at Phoenix International Raceway® is free. Reserved lots require a parking pass. Please make sure that your parking pass is displayed prominently at all times. Please note that overnight parking is limited to the Palm 2 parking lot. There is no camping in this lot. (Please see the RV Parking section for camping information.) Motorcycle Parking Motorcycles may park in the western section of the Citrus 1 parking lot (see map). This area is dedicated to motorcycle parking. Trams and ADA (Disabled) Parking Trams Trams are provided from our parking areas, and drop off at Speed Lane, just outside of the Bobby Allison Grandstands in Turn 2. Trams operate from the time gates open each day until 90 minutes after the checkered flag of each race. Trams are not available after that time. Accessible Parking Individuals who purchase wheelchair accessible seating are provided a parking pass for a designated accessible parking location. If you are a guest with any state-issued disabled plate or placard, but do not require wheelchair seating, please follow the traffic guidelines found earlier in this guide. You may enter the parking area on Cotton Lane and park in the accessible parking located at that entrance. Please be aware that this lot is limited in size and that parking is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Wheelchair accessible transport carts are available throughout the event at this location. For questions or more information, please contact us at 623-463-5400. Thank you for your assistance. 14 15 2009 Tailgating Tailgating has become a popular part of any NASCAR® event and is permitted in all parking lots at Phoenix International Raceway®. In order for all guests to enjoy the tailgating experience, we ask that you follow these guidelines: • When parking, park your car in one space only. • Please tailgate in front of or behind your vehicle only. • Be considerate of other Guests’ vehicles. • For the safety of all Guests and for emergency vehicle access, please keep all aisles clear. • Dispose of all trash in proper receptacles, and please participate in PIR’s recycling program. • Prior to entering Phoenix International Raceway, please extinguish all flames and grills. Fires on open unprotected ground are prohibited. Fires in a proper container that lift the materials off the ground will be permitted. These policies were developed to accommodate our guests who wish to line up for entry to the Unreserved areas, while taking into account our many neighbors and the community in which PIR resides. • Campfires on open unprotected ground are prohibited. Fires in a proper container that lift the materials off the ground will be permitted. No fires underneath awnings or dining canopies will be allowed, and no bonfires will be allowed. Unusually dry conditions may result in the prohibition of all open fires. • Pets must be leashed and all pet waste must be disposed of properly. • Tow Vehicles. No extra vehicles may be brought into the camping areas. Additional vehicles may be parked in the Palm 2 parking lot at no extra fee. • Waste water dumping is a violation of PIR policy and Arizona state law. Small children of course will always be able to accompany their parents. Phoenix International Raceway® welcomes guests with disabilities. Motorsports facilities are significant in size and can be accessed from many directions. To fully enjoy your visit to PIR, please read the following information regarding venue accessibility options. Accessible Parking Guests who have any state-issued disabled plate or placard, but do not require wheelchair accessible seating, should follow the traffic guidelines found earlier in this guide. Also, please be aware that due to limited availability of accessible parking, PIR requires that the individual to whom the pass is issued must be present in the car. Upon arrival at PIR via Indian Springs Road, guests requiring accessible parking may park in the lot outside of Gate 4. (Please see the map on pages 18-19 for this lot location.) Again, as accessible parking is limited, guests are encouraged to arrive early. However, patrons utilizing advance ticket sales in a wheelchair accessible location will be sent an accessible parking pass with their seats. For more information on this program, please contact the PIR Ticket office at 1-866-408-RACE. The elevators are staffed and controlled by the attendants in the cars. Post race they will visit each floor in sequential order to help empty the grandstand as quickly as possible. Elevator operators may operate only in one direction (up) during peak periods immediately before the race. This will allow all guests to reach their seats prior to the start of the race. Trams and Golf Carts Transportation assistance is also available in the form of our tram shuttle and golf cart programs. Please see the color coded map on page 35 which you can use as a reference. Carts will be marked according to the color of the route they are currently driving. In the morning hours, carts will be available at the information booths. Post race, carts will be located at major gates to transfer individuals back to this lot. A cart will also be available to transport guests with disabilities through the infield tunnel. Carts may also be accessed by contacting one of PIR’s Information Booth locations. Should a guest require assistance from a location other than those designated above, a family member or companion may go to an information booth and a cart can be requested to go to the guest’s vehicle. Also, please be advised that during peak volume periods immediately before and after the race, some delays may be experienced as we work to accommodate all of our guests safely. PIR provides this service free of charge, and tipping of the transport driver is not permitted. 32 33 2009 Wheelchair Accessible Seating Phoenix International Raceway® offers several options for guests requiring wheelchair accessible seating.
