The combination of different bi-X and tri-X fibres determines the flex
and the torsion of the ski. The core and laminates of the ski combine
to determine the camber memory, and therefore the ski’s durability.

The cap system is like a hood,
we could say a shell but not

goodness. This surface which

A twin tip ski has raised tips front and back,
for a freestyle and switch orientated use,
but besides these more exclusive disciplines,
the twin tip brings a comfort and ease of use
to downhill skiing.
This consists of an alternative to the twin tip
which offers a gentler tail for more all-round
use, without changing the responsiveness
and the alpine character of the ski.
The semi-rounded tail allows for great handling
and float for narrow turns, whilst preserving its
directional capacities on hard snow.

Double Radius : the principal of a double
radius consists of moving the widest zone of
the ski further back from the tips. In reducing
the length of edge in contact with hard snow,
the ski gains in ease of rotation and handling,
and the whole ski becomes easier to control.
So the ski keeps the advantages of extra float
and good handling in soft snow, whilst
benefiting from a shorter edge contact zone
and better handling on hard snow.
This shape of ski is well adapted to freeriding :
a discipline which by definition evolves on
every type of snow, in all types of conditions
and all types of mountain. Faced with such
demands, the double radius is a very
convincing solution : a ski which can rotate
quickly for short turns and becomes very
stable at high speeds and in straight lines.
The single short radius is the combination
of classic tail shape and a front rocker.
The double radius tail allows progressive
turning, while the front rocker easily stays
afloat, as well as facilitating quick rotation
and therefore control of speed. By reducing
the demands on the front tip in this way,
the ski is much more easier to handle and
less physical. With its balanced flex, the
single short radius creates a very playful
and fun ski.
The double rocker shape means that the
tip of the ski floats easily as well as the tail.
The ski’s central axis is highly dynamic and
allows, with its ease of rotation, to have an
unrivalled control of speed and direction in
deep snow. With its balanced flex, the double
short radius provides the ski with amazing
endurance, handling, and, if you wish,
without limits.

Our freeride range is divided into two segments : big mountain and
all mountain, from the widest to the narrowest of our models. Each
of these models has its own specialities and unique qualities based
on their purpose and demands. Yet always with the black crows
philosophy in mind : skis made for all types of snow and terrain.

consists of is free skiing off-piste. Put simply, freeriding is built

Some of the black crows veterans come from the era of what is
now known as “old school” freestyle, an acro-artistic discipline of
unlimited perspectives where we used somewhat long skis and
poles, and were sometimes naked. Our bodies had been forged on
the mogul fields, ski jumps and acroski pistes, and these memories
of our younger years spent trying to do a double daffy or a spread
eagle with grace and style left their mark on us.

In our new high mountain freebird range, we offer 2 new types of
construction with 2 different shapes. This season sees the beginning
of a new black crows project, always with the same ambition, highly
efficient on the uphill and unlimited pleasure on the way down.
2012-2013
Ski touring is nowadays divided into two easily distinguished
sectors. One which aims for performance, uphill speed records,
rugged and audacious courses where ski-mountaineers rapidly
climb steep slopes with skis lighter than a crow’s feather.
The other, in the midst of a revolution, is constantly searching for
better snow and conditions, far from the bustle of ski resorts, the
objective to contemplate the surroundings and share the physical
effort. Add to that the travelling, the discovery of new mountain
ranges, learning about mountain skills and autonomy, you have all
the values which carry our vision of this unique means of transport.

For 2013 the range has grown a lot, so we had to simplify the
understanding and visual identity of the skis. The big change this year
is to have single colour on each ski : block colours, monochrome with
varying shades. So each range is one colour in three different shades,
with different graphic positioning depending on the size of the ski.
As of now, a big Corvus can be distinguished from a small Corvus by
the arrangement of the colours, rather than the colour itself.
Multiplied, this V – or chevron - becomes a flock, representing
the black crows community. As such, the association of chevrons
naturally became the brand’s identity. “The black crows spirit is
also a community of skiers with similar passions and ways of life. A
squadron of free and unique skiers. Even if crows don’t fly in flocks,
the six chevrons together resemble birds in flight. The originality of
this logo is that it has an infinite number of possibilities, creating an
illusionary perspective, in optical art style.
The monochrome skis of the Freebird light touring range (red or
yellow) are a new approach which treats the skis as a whole object
rather than a composition of base - edge - topsheet. It’s a monobloc
appearance, to be combined with monochrome bindings and a
monochrome outfit. One way to transform yourself into a red or
yellow albino.”

The black crows logo is a V form evoking the silhouette of a bird in
flight. “I wanted to create a simple and geometric symbol, in keeping
with the ski logos of the 50 s, 60 s, and 70 s. No 3D, no shadow, no
multiple colours, just a monochrome silhouette” explains Yorgo.
“The simplest drawing of a bird in flight is the V. Like when a child
draws birds. And finally, an upside down V becomes a mountain,
the sommets to conquer.”

The furtis is equipped with a reinforced aluminium point to
consolidate it’s base and a grip handle over a third of it’s length
for an easy and effective grip in all situation. A concealable wrist
strap system allows the user to choose their own preference.
For the finishing touch, a 9 cm multi-purpose basket moulded
with the black crow’s logo finishes the stem.
Aiming to propose a highly technical product with minimal ecological
impact, has been working for 18 months with Bcomp to develop this
first flax fiber based composite pole. Specialist in natural fibre
composites, Bcomp, at black crows’ request, took on the challenge
of combining the demands of performance with the durability of
renewable materials. This partnership has benefited from the latest
technology whilst prioritising the environmental aspect, a dimension
which is reinforced by an entirely European fabrication and assembly.

For this new collection, black crows presents their first technical
accessory, a high performance pole in flax fibre composite. Light,
strong and ergonomic, this essential skiing tool was designed with
simplicity and efficacity in mind to respond to the demands of every
type of skier. To get this result, black crows has joined up with Bcomp,
a Swiss company based in natural fibre composites. The fruit of
this colloboration is a tube of flax fibre composite, light and resistant
like traditional composites such as carbon fibre. The benefits in
weight and rigidity, shock absorption and dampening, make this
pole a technological boost for any skier.

or other tasks, especially on
steep runs and couloirs : they
can be easily planted in difficult
snow. Upside down ( handle
first ) they are perfect for testing
the snowpack. Immediate loss
of poles in case of avalanche,
minimising risk of injury.
Strapless disadvantages :
No strap means possibility
of losing your pole. And then
gravity takes over. But as Bruno
Compagnet says :
“In all extreme sports, riders

I only lost my baton once and
