While it is incorrect to refer to any month in Key West as "cool,"
according to The Weather Channel, the coolest month of the year
in Key West is January with an average high temperature of 75
degrees F and the average low is only 10 degrees cooler at 65. The
range is often high in the 80’s to low in the 60’s.

If you have a laptop, though not required,
we suggest you bring it. You will receive
training material on a flashdrive and a printer will be available.
What to wear?
Key West is an island so the dress code
is very casual. Shorts, sundresses, Capri
pants, sandals are fine. Shirt with a colar
get’s men into the finest restaurant.
No suits or formal attire.
The Pier House has a private beach.
At all times, dress for island comfort
including walking shoes.
What to Expect?
Class size is always limited to a maximum of 35. You can expect to be
in the company of progressive care givers. Free time would be limited to
Tuesday arrival and Tuesday evening. For those of us who live in colder
climates, Key West offers much better weather than home in January.
There is so much to see
and do. While you might
like some time to just
relax or go shopping,
there are also a wide
range of activities that would require reservations in advance such
as flats boat fishing, deep sea fishing, scuba or snorkeling.

Hemingway’s home, the
Maritime Museum, the

Bring your spouse or significant other?
While you’re in class, your spouse or significant other can be enjoying
the sights and sounds of Key West and ultimately be your tour guide
after you become a certified celebrant. There is so much to see and do
on the island of Key West and you won’t need a rental car!
When You Arrive
The Key West Airport is 10 minutes from the Pier House, which is
on the water and arguably the most convenient resort in Key West. A
rental car is not necessary as everything is within walking distance!
Truman White House, the Butterfly
Sanctuary or the aquarium. There is
also a conch train tour which includes
all the best sights and is a great way
to learn about the island.
Try the spa services at the
Pier House (recommend
booking at least a month in
advance), swim in the ocean or
pool, or just lie on the beach,
rent a wave runner, go
shopping or enjoy the historic
and cultural attractions.

I would not hesitate to recommend this training. I believe celebrant certification would help all funeral
directors be better arrangers. It provides insights for demonstrating compassion as we spend time with
families, hear their stories and convey to them how important it is for them to have a funeral so that their

Thanks for a great experience in Key West. Tracy is totally committed. Just to let you know, we had two
celebrant services in the last two days. Both were awesome. People came up to me and said "that is
how a funeral should be" and "now I know where I am going to have my funeral." Both were
cremations, but after education, both were ceremonies with deceased present.
Great stuff! I am working to find 2 more people to get certified and intend to have all FD’s and all preneed staff complete this training.

I do believe that all funeral directors should experience this training and the certification process. It is my
belief that this training will help funeral directors to connect to their families. One of the main components

The entire training program in Key West, speakers,
and classes, was outstanding. The program is set up
to show participants first what a celebrant service
and master of ceremonies looks like, then step-bystep instructions on how to put together your very
own personalized service at the end of the class.
Although this class prepares participants to become
certified celebrants, it also prepares Funeral
Directors and anyone in end-of-life services to best
serve families with a unique and personalized
experience. With the declining rates of church
participation and rising rate of direct disposition, it is
clear that families need to be offered other options
for services. This program not only teaches the skills
of personalizing a service but also how to offer and
sell this option to the families we serve in end-of-life
