The true outdoors is right here at your fingertips. Whether you want to spend a relaxing few days fishing on some of the best lakes and rivers in the country, a long weekend hiking or biking along our many trails, or hunting in one of our public wildlife management areas, you can find it all right here. Outdoor recreational opportunities are all around you. You can watch eagles and osprey, cruise down one of our scenic waterways, ride horses and ATV’s, go kayaking and backpacking, or go camping at one of our many campgrounds. The possibilities here in the outdoors are endless. FISHING With over 217,000 acres of water and over 3,000 miles of shoreline, Kentucky and Barkley Lakes offer prime fishing year round. You’ll be sure to find a big catch! The lakes offer catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, Kentucky (spotted) bass, white bass, striped bass, white and black crappie, bluegill, and rockfish. HUNTING Kentucky’s growing deer herd and turkey flock mean this season will be one of the best ever to go hunting in the state. Kentucky has 1.6 million acres of land open to the public for hunting so finding a spot that’s right for you isn’t hard to do. Where can you hunt? You can hunt on the many wildlife management areas or in Land Between the Lakes, which offers more than 230 days of hunting opportunities throughout the year for Turkeys, Deer, Small Game, and Waterfowl. Find more on LBL Hunting at www.lbl.org. For more information about the Outdoor activities in our area or for a complete listing of Hunting seasons, Fishing limits, Guide services, or License fees, please visit www.kentuckylakebarkley.travel. The annual regional visitor’s guide and map published by KWW are the official regional publications. They are mailed by KWW and the Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism in response to inquiries received from across the nation. The guide and map are also distributed at a number of travel and sport shows each year, all of Kentucky’s Interstate welcome centers, and many businesses in the area who provide copies to their customers.
