MISSION STATEMENT
The Junior League of Greater Covington members individually are unique, but together are a
powerful group of women working for lasting
change in our community. We are women
building better communities, always reaching
for our goal of continuing good works and
touching lives in our community through our
League projects and activities. League members
have and will continue to unselfishly dedicate many hours of service to
the citizens of St. Tammany Parish.
JLGC members, as women for lasting change, are privileged to support numerous community projects and move our mission of voluntarism forward through
our many endeavors - promoting childhood literacy with Read for the Record,
volunteering at New Heights, and focusing on health issues with our Annual
Spring Stomp 5K and Fun Run. Our Career Corner committee assists women in
necessitous circumstances transition into the workforce with wardrobe consultation, outfits, job interviewing skills, and the like. Career Corner’s Project Prom
provides junior and senior year high school girls in financial need with dresses,
shoes and accessories. Our JLGC members partner with Children’s Museum of
St. Tammany, our signature project, and continue that outreach through our
JLGC’s Museum Without Walls. Proceeds from Polo and sales for our Tabasco
Award Winning Roux to Do cookbook allow JLGC to fund our numerous community projects. We are proud to humbly serve our community. Lakeview Regional Medical Center Introduces

As I reflect on my year as President of the Junior League of Greater
Covington, I am still amazed at how quickly the year passed, and how
much we accomplished as a League. The hard work and dedication of
the active, lagniappe active, provisional, and sustaining members benefited the community in so many ways. We volunteered at Safe Harbor,
New Heights, Hope House and Southeast Hospital; we worked on Girls’
Health Day, Project Prom and Career Corner; we raised money and had
a good time at the Harvest Cup Polo Match and the Spring Stomp.
The difference that Junior League makes in our community is immeasurable. Years before, when the idea of a Children’s Museum on the
northshore was nothing more than a hope, it was the dedication and
enthusiasm of the Junior League volunteers that made it a real possibility. People in the community who had never heard of Junior League
now know of us because of the Children’s Museum project. As we now
reach the point where the dream is becoming reality, we can be proud
of the impact that our voluntarism has on our community and beyond.
I am proud to be a member of the Junior League of Greater Covington, and
am honored to have been President of this group of amazing women.

DR. BENJAMIN J. BOUDREAUX, M.D.
TAMI VILLARRUBIA
MEDICAL ESTHETICIAN
Tami has worked as an Aesthetician in a medical practice for the past twelve years. After years of working
as a sales representative, Tami moved here from Biloxi, Mississippi to pursue her new found passion as an
Aesthetician. She graduated from the Neill Institute of
Covingtonin 2000. Over the course of her career Tami
has attended many advanced training courses in laser
and chemical peel services. What sets her apart is the
long term relationships that she builds with every customer through individual and personalized attention.
COMPLIMENTARY SKIN ANALYSIS
Our licensed medical esthetician will spend one hour analyzing your skin, addressing any
concerns, and customize a treatment plan to achieve maximum results. She will consider
any products you are currently on, educate you on the medical strength products we offer,
and recommend a system that will work best with your skin type and condition. Every
customer has her cell number and she can be reached at any time to address any concerns
with your skin and product use. You can make an appointment at the front desk, or pick
up her business card and call her direct at 504-261-9328.

The new Permea treatment combines
the Clear and Brilliant laser with a
topical antioxidant treatment. The
special Permea handpiece is optimized
for brighter more even skin tone and
enhanced skin permeability. It allows
to combine the laser treatment with
a synergistic antioxidant treatment,
which takes advantage of the increased
skin permeability to achieve maximum
patient benefits.
Photo-Rejuvenation/Intense
Pulse Light Therapy
The best treatment available to address
all of the following conditions at the
same time: pigmentation (from sun or
hormonal), rosacea, broken blood vessels, diffuse redness, fine lines, enlarged
pores, and acne scars. A series of treatments is necessary and will leave your
skin with an even tone and improved
texture. This is a no “social down time”
treatment that works great on face,
neck, chest and hands. A series of treatments is necessary for optimal results.
Lisa Blossman is Junior League of Greater Covington’s 2011 Sustaining Member of the Year. She
has been a Sustaining Member of our league since 2003 and was the Sustainer Advisor for the
2010-2011 Board. Lisa served on JLGC’s Board of Directors as our 2002 Community Vice-President
and as the Assistant Community Vice-President in 2001. She was JLGC’s 2000 Head Volunteer for
the Done in a Day program and was the League Board representative to the Parenting Center of
West St. Tammany from 1998-1999. Lisa is married to Alex Blossman and they have two sons. She
is the publisher of New Orleans CityBusiness/New Orleans Publishing Group.
2010 Sustainer of the Year
Mimi Curran
Mimi Curran, our 2010 Sustaining Member of the year, is a Founding Member who believes it is
a privilege and pleasure to be a member of the Junior League. Early on as a member of a group of
similarly minded ladies, she realized the need for active community volunteerism in St. Tammany
Parish. She was on the forefront with the group’s vision to identify a community need, create and
foster a project, fund it, and encourage a larger group to become involved and take over the project. She was involved in creating the Youth Service Bureau and the league’s very own Thrift Shop,
to serve community members in need and as fundraisers for other league projects. Mimi continues
to support JLGC as a Sustaining Member, particularly with our signature project, Children’s Museum
of St. Tammany. Teaching a child that education is fun will serve the future well.
2009 Sustainer of the Year
Blanche McCloskey
Blanche McCloskey, JLGC’s 2009 Sustaining Member of the Year, is a Charter Member of the Junior
League of Greater Covington. Blanche had the honor of serving as JLGC’s third president and later
on with the League’s Advisory Board. Volunteerism has always been an important part of her life, as
evidenced by her committee work with the Art Association, Playmakers, Red Cross, the American
Cancer Society and other civic organizations. She has served on numerous community boards including the St. Tammany YMCA, United Way, St. Tammany Heart Association, the Humane Society,
Hospice of St. Tammany, St. John’s Catholic Church and St. Peter School. Currently, Blanche is a
Trustee of the St. Tammany Hospital Foundation and is a Willwoods Community board member,
and serves on the Catholic Women in Action committee for the Catholic Foundation.

The Clear & Brilliant laser is our favorite and most aggressive energy source
to dramatically improve skin texture,
fine lines and crepiness, while tightening the skin and pores. This laser also
improves skin tone by lightening those
resistant brown spots, due to sun exposure or aging. Our patients notice the
boost in collagen as their skin is more
“plumped up,” and has a more brilliant,
luminous glow. The real beauty of this
treatment is that you have only one day
of “social down time” which is redness
the day of the treatment.
2011 Sustainer of the Year
Lisa Blossman
A unique, non-ablative laser treatment
that works deeper to improve texture, reduce pore size and redness... leaving skin
more luminous. This resurfacing of skin
from the inside out, stimulates collagen
and creates a gentle warming of the skin
that patients enjoy. It truly is a “no down
time” treatment. A series of treatments is
necessary for optimal results.

Junior League of Greater Covington members believe in the value
of the League journey, where it is going, what it is going to take to
get there, and why it is important. Members want to make our
community a better place to live. We do this though our mission
as an organization that promotes voluntarism and develops the
potential of women to improve our community by training volunteers focused on educational and charitable endeavors. From
its beginning, JLCG members have been committed to identifying needs, and designing and implementing volunteer projects
that meet those needs. JLGC, as a service organization focusing
on long-term priorities identified by the membership, recognizes
that it is a privilege to serve.
The League was founded in 1977 by nine women, mostly young
wives and mothers, who decided there were needs in the community that they could address by working together to develop
a project to meet those needs and support that project until it is
able to stand on its own. Within two years, a YMCA for western St. Tammany and a Meals on Wheels program for shut-ins
begun under League tutelage. The cavalcade of League contributions to the community continued.

1991–1992 Board
In 1980, the League (known then as the Junior Service League) began working with a local judge to form the Youth Service Bureau
and soon after in 1982, they were instrumental in the incorporation of the Northlake Nature Center. Today the NNC hosts one
of the premier bird festivals in the United States. The League’s
Highway 190 Beautification Program morphed into several local
anti-litter and beautification efforts, including the Tree Alliance,
landscaping standards for St. Tammany Parish, Keep Covington
www.jlgc.net
Beautiful and Keep Mandeville Beautiful. By the mid-80s, the
League was a driving force in the establishment of P.R.I.D.E. (now
called Amplify) and the formation of HOST for Hospice, the
area’s first hospice program, and its efforts to provide end-of-life
support to patients without insurance. The League continued to
develop projects. Kris Kringle, later known as Toys for Tots, was
adopted by the police departments in Covington and Mandeville. The Parenting Center of Western St. Tammany began in
partnership with the local hospital.
With a growing emphasis on developing procedures for setting
short and long-term goals to meet community needs and an
1996–1997 Board
evaluation of projects, the League adopted a needs assessment
process, including identifying the interests and priorities of the
membership. This lead to the League’s adoption of strategies such
as Done in a Day (now Sudden Impact), Done in a Meeting, and
Community Trust Grants. By the mid-1990s, several of our initial
projects had become independent entities. The power of the
League continues through insight, persuasion and determination,
and the power of the League continues to be demonstrated in
our community.
In 1997, just in time for our 20th anniversary, JLGC joined the
“big leagues” with our official association with the Association of
Junior Leagues International (AJLI). JLGC continued our servant
leader role in our community with Baby Think It Over, Covington Family Service Center, Head Start, Habitat for Humanity,
Hope House, Career Closet (now Career Corner), Project Prom,
and Read for the Record. The League promotes health and
fitness in youth with our Spring Stomp, Girls’ Health Day and
Kids in the Kitchen. Our attention returned to one of our earliest
identified needs, a Children’s Museum for St. Tammany Parish.
By looking back, JLGC and those we lead will
be motivated to move forward, think big and
believe in the power of the League.

JLGC Museum Without Walls
What is the Junior League of Greater Covington
doing in the community?
JLGC works to identify local needs in St. Tammany Parish and develops programs to meet those needs. Because JLGC focuses on targeted programming
specific to our community, JLGC can be credited with implementing changes
and improving conditions in almost every sector of our society locally.
JLGC Career Corner
Housed at Dogwood Cottage, the League Headquarters, Career Corner helps prepare
women in difficult economic circumstances to transition into the workforce. Wardrobe consultation, outfits, accessories, job interviewing skills and guidance to create
a professional appearance are all part of the program. Identifying needs through
local community agencies and churches, JLGC collects appropriate clothing and then
works directly with clients. Two workshops are offered a year. The workshops train
participants in resume writing, interviewing skills, and proper business attire.
Museum Without Walls is a traveling educational program, developed and implemented
by Junior League volunteers. It brings creative
learning to the preschoolers of St. Tammany
Parish Schools. JLGC volunteers have been
visiting area schools to spread the word about
the future Children’s Museum of St. Tammany.
Museum Without Walls brings the vision of
the museum to the students with activities and
arts and crafts projects that focus on Louisiana’s
nature, culture, flora and fauna. Funding by the
JLGC is used for supplies, training and informational seminars.
JLGC Career Corner: Project Prom

Project Prom is a Career Corner program that helps junior and
senior high school girls enjoy an evening at their prom. Local high
school counselors identify candidates as having special economic
needs. JLGC collects donated dresses, shoes and accessories. The girls
are then invited to Dogwood Cottage for a “shopping day” where they
are free to choose an entire prom wardrobe at no charge. Girls may be
awarded American Express gift cards to use towards their prom dress
and accessories when a prom dress is not available.
JLGC New Heights Therapeutic Riding
This progressive equestrian program provides riding lessons for
adult and child riders dealing with neurological, developmental
and physical challenges from birth or injury. JLGC volunteers assist
riders before and during the lessons. The program is designed for
riders to build physical strength and confidence. League volunteers
find it very rewarding. JLGC funds are allocated to assist with the
operations and equipment of the New Heights Therapy Center.

JLGC Career Corner: Girls’ Health Day
The JLGC Career Corner also sponsors Girls’ Health Day.
This workshop for pre-teen and teenage girls educates them
about drug and alcohol abuse prevention, female health
issues, self-esteem building techniques, grooming and health
maintenance. One workshop is held each year.

At this educational boarding facility for troubled children
and adolescents between the ages of 12 to 18, teachers in
both regular and special education provided year-round
instruction to young wards of the state. JLGC volunteers
provided entertainment, a good word and moral support
to the children of Southeast. League volunteers assist the
students with arts and craft projects and activities. Funding
by JLGC allowed the students to take field trips, have a gift at
Christmas time, and celebrate holidays and birthdays.

Projects
Junior League of Greater Covington is
the road map to the future.
The Children’s Museum of St. Tammany inspires children to
imagine, explore and create in an interactive learning environment. The vision of the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany is
a community where play is encouraged, creativity is nurtured
and learning is enjoyed.
Women continue to outperform men in their commitment to voluntarism.
The volunteer rate for women has consistently increased at a higher rate than
for men across all age, education and demographic categories. JLGC members
proudly support this trend through our good works in our local community.
Exhibits and educational programs will be designed to encourage children to make new and surprising discoveries, explore the
wonders of the local environment and planet, stimulate creativity and expression, and nurture the desire for life-long learning.
JLGC Read for the Record
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record brings national
attention to the importance of preparing our
children to read at an early age by organizing
the world’s largest shared reading experience. It
is an intense early education program that puts
books in the homes of children who need them
most. The focus is on helping children make
gains in crucial language and literacy skills.
Over the last five years, Celebration, CMST’s annual fundraiser, has
raised more than $565,000 for the new museum. Celebration will be
instrumental in contracting the Museum’s exhibit design firm, developing a detailed architectural site and exhibit plan and assisting
in launching a Capital Campaign in 2013.
When will the Children’s Museum open? CSMT
anticipates opening in approximately three to
five years. This is a project of enormous magnitude and one that will bring equal value of
imagination, discovery, exploration, creativity and
a love of learning to the children in St. Tammany.
JLGC is privileged to partner with Jumpstart
in promoting childhood literacy at our annual
Read for the Record event. JLGC has hosted
RFTR for the last six (6) years and was proud
to help to reach the new record in 2012 for the
world’s largest shared reading experience. Over
12,500 children in St. Tammany Parish joined
millions of others worldwide on October 4,
2012 reading Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad to
break the records set when children across the
globe read Llama Llama Red Pajama in 2011
and The Snowy Day in 2010.
CMST is very grateful,
especially to the Junior
League of Greater Covington, St. Tammany Parish
and the St. Tammany Parish
Public School System for
their continued support
and partnership.

It was not about volunteering, it was about
God’s plan for me. I believe that JLGC was a
venue to meet that plan.
— Pam Egan
My purpose on earth is to know, love, and serve Jesus.
I get to serve God by serving others. God has given me
the gift of teaching and working with children. I get to
use this gift by working with the Children’s Museum

Even from the league’s beginning, I learned that
organized volunteerism can offer a huge impact for
our community. Each of us has brought our own
unique talents in creating meaningful service. The
League’s growth and positive impact still amazes
me! Lifelong friendships and education have been
priceless! I am so proud to be affiliated with such a
wonderful group of ladies!

After spending 25 years in community activism, I am honored to join an organization that adds structure and variety
to my endeavors. JLGC is well established and eclectic in its
approach to the community’s needs. The League presents
one of those rare and wonderful instances where the sum is
greater than its parts.

Knowledge • Commitment • Relationships
Junior League of Greater Covington offers three main
components to build a better community – knowledge,
commitment and relationships. Knowledge is the cornerstone of our ability to address the needs of St. Tammany
Parish. JLGC trains our members to assess a need, make a plan
to meet that need, and then implement that plan. Without
commitment, no plan can be effective. JLGC members foster
each other’s commitment through the relationships and
friendships they build with each other. Our mission and our
goal is to train our member volunteers, develop them as
leaders, and give those leaders the networking skills to make
meaningful contributions to our community.
Over the next year, JLGC will fortify our knowledge to
serve by hosting both Fall and Spring Leadership Days.
Guest speakers will help educate us at our monthly
meetings on the needs and events of St.Tammany Parish.
We, as women working for lasting change, will use this
knowledge to set the course for our future.
JLGC is constantly monitoring and evaluating our effectiveness of the projects we support, which is incorporated
