As the new Chairman of the 14th NPCC Council, it is my pleasure to address you as the Corps celebrates its 52nd Anniversary. Since its inception in 1959, NPCC has come a long way in playing a significant role to nurture our youth to be builders of a Safe and Secure Home. The NPCC Headquarters constantly reviews the NPCC programme by taking direction from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Ministry of Education (MOE), as well as incorporating inputs and feedback from the NPCC members. Moving forward, you will be happy to note that a number of new initiatives and enhanced programmes will be implemented, with the aim of making learning more engaging and enriching for our cadets. This year, with the positive feedback received for the pilot launch of the mutli-media courseware on drills, we will be developing more selfdirected and interactive courseware in the areas of campcraft skills and road safety. As the only uniformed youth group to enjoy close affiliation with the SPF, NPCC cadets can look forward to greater collaboration with the SPF, especially on the community engagement front. The Police Youth Ambassador Programme, since it’s launched in 2007, has allowed NPCC cadets to take on the role as Police Ambassadors to spread the community safety and security messages in schools, at home and in the local community. In this regard, I must commend each and every member of the Corps for your contributions in building a safe community and nation. To further enhance the existing Police-NPCC partnership, the SPF will be collaborating with the NPCC to introduce an ‘Adopt-a-Block’ concept, in which the cadets will engage the residents on a regular basis on crime prevention and security initiatives. Through such close collaboration, we hope to instil a greater sense of leadership and social responsibility among our cadets. This is in line with our vision to develop our cadets into future leaders imbued with sound values.
