2010 Fourth of July Celebration
“Red, White & Blue Go Green, Keep
Friendswood Beautiful”
The Fourth of July Steering Committee and the City of Friendswood would like to invite you to
participate in the 115th annual Friendswood Fourth of July Celebration that will take place on Sunday,
July 4th and Monday, July 5th. The two-day celebration is packed full of entertainment, food and fun
for the entire family. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Red, White & Blue Go Green, Keep
Friendswood Beautiful”.
The two-day long celebration will kick off Sunday night with the Evening Program, which begins at
7:00 p.m., at Centennial Park. This year’s program should be one of the best family fun events for
2010. Rick Trevino will headline the evening entertainment. along with a second band; Hamilton
Loomis. A fantastic fireworks extravaganza will light up the sky beginning at approximately 9:20 p.m.
The fireworks will be choreographed to patriotic music and is guaranteed to be one of the best
fireworks displays in the Houston area.
Public parking will not be available at Centennial Park for the Evening Program. Spectators must
ride the free shuttle service to gain admittance into the park. Shuttle Service will be available from
Clear Brook High School and from Friendswood Community Church, on 2821 Parkwood Ave. Shuttle
services will begin running at 6:30 p.m.

On Monday, July 5th The Grand Parade will travel down Friendswood Dr. The parade will begin at 10
a.m., at the corner of FM 518 and Heritage Drive, and will feature over 100 entries from Friendswood
and around the State of Texas. The parade will conclude at Stevenson Park where rides, games, food,
live entertainment and fun for the entire family will take place. The Zydeco Dots will be the featured
entertainment along with a variety of patriotic performances throughout the day. The activities will
begin shortly after the conclusion of the parade. Over 50 booth entries will provide the backdrop for
the daytime activities. The daytime activities are scheduled to conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Activity Building
Located at 300 Briarmeadow near Winding Way. Facilities include: picnic tables,
barbecue pits, playground equipment and nature trails. A large riding arena with
bleachers, concession stand and announcers booth host local horse shows and
riding events. Approximately 6 acres of park land allows for parking of trucks,
trailers and cars.
Located at 416 Morningside. The Activity Building houses the Friendswood
Senior Citizens Program and provides fitness classes, and meeting room
space.

Concert In The Park Series
The Friendswood Public Library, located at 416 S. Friendswood Drive,
welcomes all area citizens of all ages to visit the library and enjoy its
many services. The library’s book collection consists of over 80,000
volumes with over 170 magazine and newspaper subscriptions. The
library is able to readily provide popular titles, as nearly 450 new books
are added monthly. A wide variety of reading materials for both
recreational and educational reading is selected to provide for the reading
interests and needs of toddlers through senior citizens. The library also
has a wide selection of materials in other formats: dvds, videos,
audiobooks (on tape and compact disc), music cds, and computer

Summer Day Camp
This camp offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including
arts and crafts, nature studies, scavenger hunts, swimming, sports,
etc. The last Friday of each session is Field Trip Day.
Pool Rules
1. All persons entering the pool area must pay the admission fee
and have a pass or ID card.
13. Running, dunking, horseplay, pushing, profanity or lewd
behavior is prohibited.
2. Please walk. No running.
14. Children under 3 years must remain within arms reach of an
adult while in the pool.
3. Diving is prohibited.
15. Cloth and disposable diapers are not allowed within the pool.
Children needing diapers must wear rubber pants with tight
fitting legs.
4. Inflatable toys are not allowed. Certain personal floating devices
will be allowed (check with Lifeguard).
5. Children 12 years and under must be directly accompanied and
supervised by their parent or legal guardian.
16. Swimsuits only - No shorts, shirts, or long pants.
6. Please take a warm soapy shower before entering the pool.
17. Beach balls only, restricted to non-crowded times.
7. The City is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
18. Anyone caught swimming after hours will forfeit their swim pass
and will be arrested for TRESPASSING.
8. Coolers and ice chests are not allowed on the pool deck.
9. Smoking and glass containers are not allowed in the facility.
Inclement Weather Policy
10. Food and drinks are restricted to the picnic tables and grass
areas only.
The pool and facility will be cleared upon the first sound of thunder or
sight of lightning. Patrons will not be allowed to re-enter the facility
until 30 minutes after the last evidence of the storm. The facility will
also close during a rainstorm if the pool bottom cannot be seen.
11. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the facility or pool area.
12. All radios must have headphones or be kept at a low volume.
Cool your summer off with a dip in the city pool! Pool capacity: 235 persons. Pool Depth: up to 5 feet deep.

• Each individual camper will be limited to a maximum of 5 sessions.
• Copy of birth certificate and health insurance card required at time
of registration.
• Discount for half sessions will not be available.
Summer Activity Registration
The City of Friendswood Community Services Department will be offering
registration for our Summer Day Camp through a lottery system. All
Friendswood residents interested in registering their child/children for Summer
Day Camp will need to come to the Community Services Department, which is
located on the second floor in the City of Friendswood City Hall, 910 S.
Friendswood Dr. Registration for the lottery system will take place between
Monday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 28 during normal business hours. Proof
of residency will be required at registration (valid Driver’s License or
Friendswood Water Bill). Parents will be asked to fill out a lottery registration
form detailing which sessions are being requested. Families will be notified by
Friday, April 30, if they were able to secure a spot in the session(s) requested.
Families chosen in the lottery will be required to pay, either deposits or full
payments by 5 pm on Friday, May 7, or your space will be forfeited.
Beginning May 11, non-residents may register for any remaining openings or
be put on the waiting list. For additional information, please call, 281-996-3220.
Cancellation or Rescheduling
All activities must have a minimum number of participants in order to be
held. The Community Services Department reserves the rights to cancel,
combine, change time or date, or make any revisions that may be necessary.

For over 120 years, the YMCA has been teaching people to swim. YMCA
swim lessons focus more than just learning to swim. YMCA lesson plans
include personal safety, personal growth, water adjustment, stroke
development, and water sports and games. YMCA lessons also
emphasize the core values of the YMCA, caring, honesty, respect,
responsibility, and faith. The Coppinger Family YMCA offers classes for all
ages. It is never too early or too late to learn to swim! There is a $40
resident fee per session, and a $30 per year membership fee.
Kidfish
Swim Lesson Information
The “KIDFISH” program is an outreach program that is designed to
bring communities together by creating fishing opportunities and
memories for children and families. The program is free to the
public. Fishing tackle and bait will be provided at no additional
charge. During “KIDFISH”, children participate in a “KIDFISH”
College presentation teaching them about fishing, conservation, and
respect for the environment, the fish, and other memorable fishing

• Please pick up a Parent Handbook which is available at the Welcome
Center.
• All instructors are certified YMCA Swim Instructors. They teach
according to YMCA of the USA Swim Lesson program curriculum.
• The pool will close and classes will be cancelled if lightning is seen,
thunder is heard, or rain hinders the visibility of the pool. After each
occurrence of thunder or lightning, the pool must close for 30 minutes.
Other reasons for cancellations include pool maintenance, etc.
• Fridays will be used for make-up days for lessons. Only lessons
cancelled by the YMCA are eligible for make-up. Lessons missed due
to personal conflict/illness are not eligible for make-up. Seven out of
eight lessons are guaranteed.
• Classes that have met for at least 20 minutes will not be made up.
• Spring Online Registration begins April 12th.

Class Descriptions
INFANT/TODDLER CLASSES (6 months - 36 months)
Parent/Child: The objective of this class is to get both the parent and the
child comfortable in the water while having fun and learning safety.
Classes include games, songs, and toys that encourage basic movements
in the water such as kicking, arm strokes, and breath control.
PRE-SCHOOL CLASSES (3 years - 5 years)
Pike (Beginner): This class is for those who cannot or will not put their
face in the water. It is ideal for first time swimmers.
Eel (Beginner): This class is for those who will put their face in the water
and attempt skills when asked.
Ray/Starfish (Advanced): This class is for those who will jump in and
swim unassisted to the side but need to work on technique.
YOUTH CLASSES (6 years - 12 years)
Polliwog (Beginner): This class is for the beginner swimmer. Child may
be afraid of the water, but is able to play in shallow water - has no stroke
development.
Guppy (Beginner Advanced): This class is for those who can paddle 25
yards with assistance or 20 ft without assistance on his/her front or side.
Minnow (Intermediate): This class is for those who can do the front and
back crawl the length of the pool with proper breathing.
Fish/Flying Fish (Advanced): This class is for those who are comfortable
with front and back crawl. This class also teaches breaststroke and
butterfly, refines stroke technique, and teaches basic rescue skills.

Jazzercise
Spice up your lifestyle and shape your body with our health and
fitness class. A fun way to burn fat, get tone, increase flexibility, and
enhance your strength!
Each class is approximately 60 minutes and incorporates the
following components. A warm-up segment comprising gentle
rhythmic movements and jazz isolations for individual muscle
groups. An aerobic segment to increase cardiovascular fitness and
burn calories. An aerobic cool-down segment to reduce heart rate. A
muscle-toning segment with weights to strengthen the hips, thighs,
derriere, abdomen, upper torso and arms. A final cool-down stretch
segment to return the heart rate to normal.
The goal of FSCP is to enrich the lives of senior adults in Friendswood.
Activities, exercise programs, cultural programs, health education and field
trips, are all a vital part of this program. The program strives to create a
sense of community for Friendswood seniors by sponsoring
multigenerational events and partnering with other city groups and
organizations to enhance the quality of life of all age groups.
Friendswood seniors participate in a variety of activities, trips and special
events creatively designed to meet the ever changing needs and interests
of a growing, active adult population. Everything from Tai Chi to Ballroom
Dancing, line dancing, tap dancing or fitness instruction is offered on the
weekly activities calendar. Most classes are taught by volunteer
instructors. Special events offered each month range from holiday
celebrations to live entertainment performances by local and regional
artists, lectures and instructors. Field Trips scheduled monthly and
throughout the year include short day trips to area attractions as well as
exciting and professionally organized overnight trips and excursions to
near by cities and tourist destinations.

Bus service within the city limits, is available for seniors who wish to
participate in Senior Citizen Program activities. To schedule a ride on
the bus seniors must call a day ahead. Contributions are accepted and
appreciated for this service but not required.
Congregate meals are furnished to Friendswood Senior Citizen
program participants via the Houston-Galveston Area Council Agency
on Aging. To receive these meals seniors must be at least 60 or older.
There is a suggested donation of $1 per meal.

Summer Day Camp
This camp offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including
arts and crafts, nature studies, scavenger hunts, swimming, sports,
etc. The last Friday of each session is Field Trip Day.
Pool Rules
1. All persons entering the pool area must pay the admission fee
and have a pass or ID card.
13. Running, dunking, horseplay, pushing, profanity or lewd
behavior is prohibited.
2. Please walk. No running.
14. Children under 3 years must remain within arms reach of an
adult while in the pool.
3. Diving is prohibited.
15. Cloth and disposable diapers are not allowed within the pool.
Children needing diapers must wear rubber pants with tight
fitting legs.
4. Inflatable toys are not allowed. Certain personal floating devices
will be allowed (check with Lifeguard).
5. Children 12 years and under must be directly accompanied and
supervised by their parent or legal guardian.
16. Swimsuits only - No shorts, shirts, or long pants.
6. Please take a warm soapy shower before entering the pool.
17. Beach balls only, restricted to non-crowded times.
7. The City is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
18. Anyone caught swimming after hours will forfeit their swim pass
and will be arrested for TRESPASSING.
8. Coolers and ice chests are not allowed on the pool deck.
9. Smoking and glass containers are not allowed in the facility.
Inclement Weather Policy
10. Food and drinks are restricted to the picnic tables and grass
areas only.
The pool and facility will be cleared upon the first sound of thunder or
sight of lightning. Patrons will not be allowed to re-enter the facility
until 30 minutes after the last evidence of the storm. The facility will
also close during a rainstorm if the pool bottom cannot be seen.
11. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the facility or pool area.
12. All radios must have headphones or be kept at a low volume.
Cool your summer off with a dip in the city pool! Pool capacity: 235 persons. Pool Depth: up to 5 feet deep.

• A $50 fee (non-refundable) per session will hold a space open for

• Each individual camper will be limited to a maximum of 5 sessions.
• Copy of birth certificate and health insurance card required at time
of registration.

Summer Activity Registration
The City of Friendswood Community Services Department will be offering
registration for our Summer Day Camp through a lottery system. All
Friendswood residents interested in registering their child/children for Summer
Day Camp will need to come to the Community Services Department, which is
located on the second floor in the City of Friendswood City Hall, 910 S.
Friendswood Dr. Registration for the lottery system will take place between
Monday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 28 during normal business hours. Proof
of residency will be required at registration (valid Driver’s License or
Friendswood Water Bill). Parents will be asked to fill out a lottery registration
form detailing which sessions are being requested. Families will be notified by
Friday, April 30, if they were able to secure a spot in the session(s) requested.
Families chosen in the lottery will be required to pay, either deposits or full
payments by 5 pm on Friday, May 7, or your space will be forfeited.
Beginning May 11, non-residents may register for any remaining openings or
be put on the waiting list. For additional information, please call, 281-996-3220.
Cancellation or Rescheduling
All activities must have a minimum number of participants in order to be
held. The Community Services Department reserves the rights to cancel,
combine, change time or date, or make any revisions that may be necessary.

Activity Building
Located at 300 Briarmeadow near Winding Way. Facilities include: picnic tables,
barbecue pits, playground equipment and nature trails. A large riding arena with
bleachers, concession stand and announcers booth host local horse shows and
riding events. Approximately 6 acres of park land allows for parking of trucks,
trailers and cars.
Located at 416 Morningside. The Activity Building houses the Friendswood
Senior Citizens Program and provides fitness classes, and meeting room
space.

Concert In The Park Series
The Friendswood Public Library, located at 416 S. Friendswood Drive,
welcomes all area citizens of all ages to visit the library and enjoy its
many services. The library’s book collection consists of over 80,000
volumes with over 170 magazine and newspaper subscriptions. The
library is able to readily provide popular titles, as nearly 450 new books
are added monthly. A wide variety of reading materials for both
recreational and educational reading is selected to provide for the reading
interests and needs of toddlers through senior citizens. The library also
has a wide selection of materials in other formats: dvds, videos,
audiobooks (on tape and compact disc), music cds, and computer

2010 Fourth of July Celebration
“Red, White & Blue Go Green, Keep
Friendswood Beautiful”
The Fourth of July Steering Committee and the City of Friendswood would like to invite you to
participate in the 115th annual Friendswood Fourth of July Celebration that will take place on Sunday,
July 4th and Monday, July 5th. The two-day celebration is packed full of entertainment, food and fun
for the entire family. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Red, White & Blue Go Green, Keep
Friendswood Beautiful”.
The two-day long celebration will kick off Sunday night with the Evening Program, which begins at
7:00 p.m., at Centennial Park. This year’s program should be one of the best family fun events for
2010. Rick Trevino will headline the evening entertainment. along with a second band; Hamilton
Loomis. A fantastic fireworks extravaganza will light up the sky beginning at approximately 9:20 p.m.
The fireworks will be choreographed to patriotic music and is guaranteed to be one of the best
fireworks displays in the Houston area.
Public parking will not be available at Centennial Park for the Evening Program. Spectators must
ride the free shuttle service to gain admittance into the park. Shuttle Service will be available from
Clear Brook High School and from Friendswood Community Church, on 2821 Parkwood Ave. Shuttle
services will begin running at 6:30 p.m.

On Monday, July 5th The Grand Parade will travel down Friendswood Dr. The parade will begin at 10
a.m., at the corner of FM 518 and Heritage Drive, and will feature over 100 entries from Friendswood
and around the State of Texas. The parade will conclude at Stevenson Park where rides, games, food,
live entertainment and fun for the entire family will take place. The Zydeco Dots will be the featured
entertainment along with a variety of patriotic performances throughout the day. The activities will
begin shortly after the conclusion of the parade. Over 50 booth entries will provide the backdrop for
the daytime activities. The daytime activities are scheduled to conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m.
