U District Store
Not one! Not two! Not three! On Saturday, December
3, our Bellevue store will be hosting four of our
favorite local kids book authors. It’ll be like a very early
Christmas morning for book-loving little ones. Don’t
miss it.
Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory and Other Stories
Reading
Join veteran bookseller Brad Craft for his beloved
retelling of Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory.
Brad always chooses a few extra special treats to read
along side as well. Stop in for hot cider, cookies, and
some good, old-fashioned storytelling.
Tuesday • December 6 • 7pm
Matthew Beard & Erik Scott de Bie
The Last Garrison & Shadowbane (WIZARDS OF THE
COAST)
Friday • December 2 • 7pm
Maddox
I Am Better Than Your Kids (SIMON & SCHUSTER)
Humorist and Internet phenomenon Maddox (author
of The Alphabet of Manliness) presents a book of art
criticism. In I Am Better Than Your Kids, though,
Maddox doesn’t spend time reflecting on the classics.
No, instead Maddox looks at—and eviscerates—the
artwork of children. (All in good fun, of course.)
Friday • December 2 • 7:30pm

for an Orderly Universe (BASIC)

The Large Hadron Collider in Geneva represents one
of the most inspiring—and challenging—scientific
breakthroughs in this golden age of physics. Renowned
physicist Frank Close offers an insider’s look at the
40 years of research, breakthrough, and endeavor
surrounding its construction, against a backdrop of
high politics, low behavior and billion-dollar budgets.
Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science
Center and University Book Store. Series sponsored by Microsoft. Series
media sponsorship provided by KPLU. Advance tickets are $5 at www.
brownpapertickets.com or 1.800.838.3006 and at the door beginning at 6:30pm.
On this night, two fantasy authors who have produced
books for Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons and
Dragons tie-ins will be in-store to read from their latest
thrilling tales. Erik Scott de Bie is a veteran—author
thus far of four books—and his book Shadowbane is
the second in a Forgotten Realms series. Beard will
be promoting his debut novel, The Last Garrison. We
understand Mr. Beard is mysterious.

Luis Alberto Urrea
Queen of America (LITTLE, BROWN)
In this novel, a healer named Teresita
Urrea flees to Arizona, only to find herself
as the “spiritual leader of the Mexican
Revolution,” quite without wanting to be.
This leads to a funny and heartbreaking
trip through turn-of-the-century America,
where she meets immigrants and tycoons,
European royalty and Cuban poets—all as
she attempts to find her role in the modern
world.

reduced her family’s chemical exposure,

toxins are, as well as their implications for
your health, and what you can do about
it. Presented by Town Hall’s Future of Health Lecture
