Don’t miss it. Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory and Other Stories Reading Join veteran bookseller Brad Craft for his beloved retelling of Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory. Brad always chooses a few extra special treats to read along side as well. Stop in for hot cider, cookies, and some good, old-fashioned storytelling. Tuesday • December 6 • 7pm Matthew Beard & Erik Scott de Bie The Last Garrison & Shadowbane (WIZARDS OF THE COAST) Friday • December 2 • 7pm Maddox I Am Better Than Your Kids (SIMON & SCHUSTER) Humorist and Internet phenomenon Maddox (author of The Alphabet of Manliness) presents a book of art criticism. In I Am Better Than Your Kids, though, Maddox doesn’t spend time reflecting on the classics. No, instead Maddox looks at—and eviscerates—the artwork of children. (All in good fun, of course.) Erik Scott de Bie is a veteran—author thus far of four books—and his book Shadowbane is the second in a Forgotten Realms series. Beard will be promoting his debut novel, The Last Garrison. Luis Alberto Urrea Queen of America (LITTLE, BROWN) In this novel, a healer named Teresita Urrea flees to Arizona, only to find herself as the “spiritual leader of the Mexican Revolution,” quite without wanting to be. This leads to a funny and heartbreaking trip through turn-of-the-century America, where she meets immigrants and tycoons, European royalty and Cuban poets—all as she attempts to find her role in the modern world. Thursday • December 8 7pm Mary Daheim The Alpine Winter: An Emma Lord Mystery (BALLANTINE) Mill Creek Emma Lord—star of Mary Daheim’s longrunning, reader-pleasing, Alpine-bound Emma Lord mysteries—in her capacity as editor and publisher of The Alpine Advocate finds herself in the middle of a holiday mystery. A corpse has been found in a Mount Sawyer cave, and they might have something to do with a set of bones discovered downstream on the Skykomish river.
