This Limited Lifetime Warranty is conditioned on installation of the product by a “Certified Installer.” If the Original Buyer transfers the precision aerodynamic components to a different trailer than the one on which they were originally installed, the components must be removed and reinstalled by Certified Installer and must be installed with a new SmartTruck installation kit in order for the Limited Lifetime Warranty to remain in effect. Failure to follow any of these requirements for installing the components on a different trailer than the one on which they were originally installed will void the warranty. If a defect or failure occurs with the Warranty Period, Buyer must promptly notify SmartTruck in writing at the address given on the company’s website: www.smarttruckaero.com. Upon confirmation of defect or failure by an authorized SmartTruck representative, SmartTruck, in its sole discretion, will either replace the defective components at no cost to the Original Buyer, or refund the amount the Original Buyer paid to purchase said components. This Warranty does not cover, nor shall any implied warranty be deemed to cover, any loss or damage that results from (1) Buyer’s use of SmartTruck’s products beyond normal use, or in a manner not recommended by SmartTruck’s guidelines; (2) any act of god (severe wind, earthquake, flooding, lightning, etc.), environmental condition (atmospheric pollutants, mold, mildew, etc.), or damage from foreign substances or chemicals other than substances and chemicals that are routinely encountered in normal over-the-road operations; (3) variations or changes in color of SmartTruck’s products; (4) improper handling, storage, neglect or abuse of SmartTruck’s products; or (5) prolonged exposure to excessive heat or high temperatures, or any other causes or occurrences beyond SmartTruck’s reasonable control and unrelated to the manufacturing process. Installer Requirements: Must be an experienced mechanic. Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs. Must have access to the necessary tools and equipment to complete the installation. General Safety Guidelines: Do not modify SmartTruck components in any way. Ensure the placement of all SmartTruck components is compliant with DOT regulations. Ensure all indication and clearance lights are clearly visible. Following the installation ensure the trailer ride-height, including the ARG, is no higher than 13 feet, 6 inches. Installation of SmartTruck Side Fairings must take place indoors at 50 °F or higher. Installation must take place on paved and level surface. A stop bar must be installed forward of the Diffuser to prevent damage. Do not modify the trailer in any way. SmartTruck components are designed to accommodate nearly all trailer specifications. Do not remove dissimilar metals barrier from SmartTruck components. Follow the manufacturers’ recommendations during use of any chemicals. Some components of the SmartTruck UnderTray System are large in size and may require assistance maneuvering into position. Check all hoses and wires for signs of damage following every installation. Damaged hoses and wires may affect the proper performance of the trailer and result in serious injury or death. Ensure that all hoses and wires make no contact with SmartTruck components. Contact between hoses and wires with SmartTruck components is a violation of DOT regulations and may cause damage. Trailer Inspection Inspect the roof for signs of damage and repair if necessary. Measure the trailer height, 8” from the rear, and ensure the ride height will not exceed 13’ 6” with the ARG installed. The ARG can add up to 1 3/4” to the overall height. Roof Width Ride Height < 13’ 6” Measure the width of the trailer roof to ensure the proper mounting brackets are used (See page 5). SmartTruck offers various bracket sizes to accommodate different trailer specifications. 2. Set-Up Secure the ARG to the trailer roof by clamping the brackets on each side to the top rail extrusion. The ARG brackets should be nearly flush with the roof extrusion on each side of the trailer. If there is an overhang of more than .5” replace with a narrow bracket (See page 12). Do not modify the brackets in any way. www.SmartTruckAero.com 9 Align the notches on each side of the ARG with the rear edge of the trailer. MNL-00-0006 3. Alignment There will be a 1 3/4” overhang off the rear of the trailer. Improper alignment of the ARG may affect performance. Front Back 1 3/4” 4. Drill and Fasten Drill a hole through three of the slots. Attach bolts from fastener kit SMT-05-8002. Torque bolts to 17 foot-pounds. To ensure a water tight seal, add caulking to each hole before fastening hardware. www.SmartTruckAero.com = 1/2” 10 = 5/16” MNL-00-0006 5. Install ARG Tabs Clean the roof directly in front of the ARG with acetone and allow to dry completely. Install four ARG Tabs evenly across the leading edge. Apply a bead of sealant along the leading edge of the ARG in between the tabs, then smooth over. Recommended: Manus Bond 30A or equivalent. Clean with acetone then apply adhesive/sealant. 6. Finish If necessary, trim arc cut-outs into the ARG to provide clearance around lights and lock rods. Measure the trailer at the highest point of the ARG to ensure the ride height does not exceed 13 feet, 6 inches. Ensure the trailer is fully compliant with DOT regulations. www.SmartTruckAero.com 11 MNL-00-0006 Instructions to replace ARG brackets. Depending on the make and model of a semi-trailer, the overall width may vary 1 - 2 inches. To accommodate this range of dimensions SmartTruck provides several different ARG brackets to fit the most narrow and the widest trailers on the market. If our standard bracket size does not fit you may need to replace your ARG brackets. See the SmartTruck Parts Catalog to find the right brackets for your trailer. Remove the original bolts and brackets from each end of the ARG. SMT-05-3075 = 9/16” Attach the replacement brackets and new bolts to each end of the ARG. Install a stop bar to prevent sliding tandems from damaging the Diffuser. 4.) Ensure hoses/wires are not touching any SmartTruck components. 5.) Any metal that has been cut or grinded must be coated with anti-corrosive material. Record the following information for each trailer equipped with a SmartTruck System: Trailer Number Trailer VIN Number Trailer Make/Model Trailer Year www.SmartTruckAero.com 40 MNL-00-0006 Maintenance Schedule SmartTruck Systems recommends a periodic inspection for damage and wear at least twice a year. Trailer damage affecting the secure mounting or performance of the SmartTruck system should be repaired. Damaged SmartTruck components should be replaced to guarantee continued performance and safe vehicle operation. Maintenance inspection should ensure the following: Check mounting brackets for corrosion, cracks, and bends. Replace brackets that have corrosive or other damage that may compromise structural integrity. Check to ensure all bolts and fasteners are properly tightend. Loose, missing, or damaged fasteners must be replaced. All fasteners must be tightened to the torque specifications (page 5). Check plastic components for cracks, abrasions and dents. Cracks in the plastic require replacement of the component. If signs of abrasion are noted, the cause should be identified and corrected. Replacement of the plastic component is required if it is worn through. Dents in the plastic components that are wider than one foot across may require replacement of the component. Check the ARG for damage. Replace the ARG if the component is cracked in anyway. If abrasion is noted on the top surface, inspect the surrounding roof skin for damage and repair as needed. Check that the caulking/sealant seam between the leading edge of the ARG and the roof is intact. Reseal if needed. Check adhesive/sealant for cracks or separation. Ensure adhesive/sealant located on the ARG and Side Fairings is intact and free from cracks or separation from the plastic components. If necessary, apply additional adhesive sealant to repair any issues. www.SmartTruckAero.com 41 MNL-00-0006
