Christy Barton has been hired full time as the New
Choices director. She received her Master of Science in
Administration degree from Central Michigan University
and has worked in higher education as both an
administrator and instructor.
is a full-time student at UNC Pembroke. She is majoring in
social work at UNC Pembroke and will be graduating with
a bachelor’s in December.! Candace plans on pursuing her
master’s at East Carolina University. Candace also serves
with the Air National Guard.
Erica Shaw joined the organization as a marketing
intern. She is a student at FSU majoring in
Communications with a concentration in Mass
Communication and a minor in Telecommunications. She
also is majoring in Biotechnologyy and is a student at
FTCC pursuing a pharmacy technician’s license.
Dancing with the Fayetteville Stars, the annual event
for CEED’s Lease to Home program, has been
recognized as the best fundraiser in Fayetteville.
This award has been given by Up & Coming Weekly for
the last 14 years. For 2011, the event raised more than
$116,000. After expenses, these funds will serve to
purchase and rehabilitate housing for individuals and
families.

SUCCESS STORIES
Julius Cook attended! business
classes! and received assistance on his
business plan from the Business
Center! ! With capital in hand,! he
began production of his mother's
famous sauce.! Now,! Bezzie's Barbecue
Sauce can be enjoyed! all over the
country.
Victoria Rich got a job as a
phlebotomist at Highsmith-Rainey
Specialty Hospital, thanks not only to
her great capabilities, but to the help,
guidance and support she received
from New Choices.
Angelica Hicks, a single mother with
a 5-year-old girl, was able to turn her
life from struggling to sound footing
thanks to her discipline and persistence
and help from the Lease to Home
program.

is helping us promote this event by
referring businesses and printing the
posters and fliers. They will also be
helping us on the days of event to
make sure everything goes smoothly.

Stuart Walters is our Board
President and works for First Citizens
Bank. He has been ! associated with
CEED's microloan program since its
inception in 2008. He reviews all loan
applications and guides us from time to
time on how to improve this program.
He also has helped in reviewing the
Golden LEAF grant application for the
microloan program and its
presentation in front of their board
and staff in Raleigh.
