Selah Parks & Recreation reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or combine activities as needed. Deadline for registrations is two days prior to the class or activity, unless otherwise specified. Activities that do not meet the minimum registration may be cancelled. Register at Selah Parks & Recreation located in the Civic Center, 216 S 1st Street. Fees must be paid at the time you register. For your convenience you can also register online at www.ci.selah.wa.us. Why are three prices listed? Activity fees are noted for each class and are payable upon registration. The first fee listed is Resident Discount Fee (RD) the amount to be paid by City residents or those who pay property taxes to the City for support of Parks & Recreation programs.The second fee listed is listed for the Selah School District (SSD) residents. The third fee listed is for the people that reside outside of Selah School District (ND). FROM THE DESK OF THE PARKS MANAGER... Spring is here! I hope everyone is enjoying the weather as it begins to warm up. Parks and Recreation have a lot of exciting things happening these next few months. There will be a new shelter at Wixson Park that can be used, rented and enjoyed by everyone. We have a 3rd of July Celebration this year that will include food vendors, arts and crafts, games, live music, a Color Run and to conclude the evening we will have a fireworks display. For the first time, we will be offering a summer flag football league for youth and adult co-ed softball in the late summer. Also, we are offering an extra week of swimming at the Selah Pool this summer! Check out our new programs and enjoy your summer! Donated articles may be left at the Civic Center during office hours only. The facility is run by volunteers who willingly work two hours a month. Clothing distribution days are Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00. Recipients must be Selah School District Residents. Selah Food Bank Free food is distributed by volunteers to needy Selah residents on Mondays and Fridays from 9-11am at the Civic Center 216 S First Street Selah Silver Set Our Purpose: To form a liaison between Senior Citizens, the Selah community, and the Wenas Valley. Main pool users must be at least 45” tall, be able to swim or be supervised by an adult. 2. Only children, 5 years and younger may use the Splash Pad. Splash pad users must be accompanied by an adult. 3. The pool may close due to inclement weather. 4. Swimming suits are required Weekday Evening Swims Evening Swims are held every weekday evening - check the schedule above for day and times. 5. Diving is not allowed. No Open Swim on swim meet nights. 7. No outside toys or inflatables allowed. *Swim meet dates: June 10, 19, 26 July 3, 15, 22 8. Food and liquids permitted only in fenced area around splash pool. 6. Waterproof pull-ups are required for infants and toddlers. POOL CLASSES 5 Rent the Pool Junior Lifeguard Class Make a splash! Have your own special pool party at the Selah Pool. The pool (including lifeguards) may be rented for private parties. Hourly rate starting at: $70 SPRSA / $80 ND Call for prices on larger groups. Call the pool manager at 698-7307 for details and availability on Saturday mornings and evenings or other “late nights”. Swimmers, 12 years and older are invited to take the one week Junior Lifeguard class. Successful participants in the class may be invited to become part of the summer pool staff. One half of the class fee will be refunded upon successful completion of the program plus 40 hours of volunteer service. Private Swim Lessons Private Lessons for one to three students may be arranged at a cost of $20 per half hour class. Contact the pool manager for details. Offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings only. Concession Stand Keep cool at the pool with ice cold drinks and goodies that are available at our concession stand located in the pool main office. The shelter at Playland Park and the five covered facilities at Wixson Park can be reserved in three hour time slots, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Because Selah’s parks are public facilities, areas outside the reserved facilities are open for public use. Call Selah Parks office at 698-7300 for details. SUMMER ACTIVITIES 8 Youth Summer Drama Camp Adult Tennis Lessons with Don Judy Tennis 1- Beginners - Basic introduction to the game of tennis: analysis of the core strokes of the game, serve, forehand, backhand, volley and overhead, scoring & doubles strategy Tennis 2 - Advanced Beginning -This class is designed for students who know the tennis basics and/or have successfully completed Beginning Tennis. We will be reviewing the basic strokes, court movement, and footwork. Tennis 3- Intermediate - Reinforcement of basic strokes, application and utilization of spin to control the ball, drills to enhance play and court coverage. Flag Football (Boys & Girls) (Ages 7 - 12) This is a summer session of flag football where we will cram 8 awesome games and just as many practices into a 4 week block of time. This is a perfect opportunity to stay busy once school gets out or to stay in shape for your fall sport. This is a co-ed program divided into two age groups: 7-9 & 10-12. The six week program offers lessons in fox trot, cha-cha, tango, waltz and more. A dance partner is recommended, but not required. Please pre-register at the Parks & Recreation office. Remember there are three sessions for your convenience. Time is at a premium, and sometimes it’s hard to juggle everything and find time for your workout. Now you can bring your baby with you to exercise and cardiovascular training that will help you get into shape. Bring your baby and your stroller (does not have to be a jogging stroller) plus a roll up mat or beach towel. Bring water and a snack for yourself & young child. R.I.P.P.E.D stands for Resistance Intervals, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance and Diet (The Diet portion is an on-line resource that you can access if you choose, but not part of the class.) Participants will need to bring a mat and a set of hand weights (3 # or 5 # weights are perfect to start with) Water and a sweat towel will also come in handy! Wednesdays Weigh in 9:00 am Meeting 9:30 –10:30 am Monthly fee includes TOPS Magazine Monthly fee varies. 11 Adult 3 v 3 Basketball League (Men & Women) This will be a competitive, yet recreational, league for adults wanting to play with other community members. Each team will consist of at least three but no more than five players. Games will be held once a week on weekday evenings with an 8 game guarantee. Game results will influence seed placement for tournament play on the last week.
