WELCOME TO UCI
Fifty years ago, in October 1965, when the University of California, Irvine,
opened its doors and held its first classes, our founders had the ambitious
goal that one day this would be a world-class university. Today, that vision
is realized in myriad faculty, student, and alumni achievements that are
illuminating new possibilities in our state and around the globe.
UC Irvine is consistently among the world’s best universities, with national
rankings and achievements in the sciences, arts, humanities, medicine, and
management. Three UC Irvine professors have won Nobel Prizes for their
contributions to the advancement of human knowledge. Our alumni have
won Pulitzer Prizes and Olympic medals, and are leaders in business, the
arts, science, and education. In all walks of life, graduates from UCI make
a difference.
Our campus has all the advantages of a large, dynamic research university,
with many opportunities for students to be involved in undergraduate
research. By the time they are seniors, 91 percent of UCI students have
participated in faculty research. And with the circular layout of our
campus surrounding beautiful Aldrich Park, our tight-knit community
thrives with the friendly feel of a small college. Our academics and
community combine to create an exceptional undergraduate experience.
UC Irvine draws students looking for world-class faculty, cutting-edge
academic programs, award-winning housing and facilities, a vibrant
campus life, and the opportunity to live and study among the best and
brightest minds in academia.
UCI is the ideal place to study the
past, enjoy the present, and shape
our future. I invite you to explore
all we have to offer and to challenge
yourself to shine brighter.
Sincerely,
Howard Gillman
Chancellor

BECOMING AN
ANTEATER
The following information will guide you through the process of accepting your
offer of admission to the University of California, Irvine. Log into your MyAdmission
account at www.admissions.uci.edu for specific details. Be sure to regularly check the
Message Center.
International students are to complete the steps for All Students in items 1-7 as
well as the steps specifically for international students that follow.
ALL STUDENTS ARE ADVISED TO:
1. Read your contract and submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).
Your SIR and nonrefundable $100 Acceptance of Admission Fee (if requested) is
the key to reserving your space at UCI. The freshman SIR deadline is May 1, 2015
or the date specified on your admission letter. The transfer SIR deadline is
June 1, 2015 or the date specified on your admission letter. Submit your SIR online
via MyAdmission at www.admissions.uci.edu.
2. Submit your Statement of Legal Residence (SLR).
The information you provide on your SLR is used to determine your residence
classification for tuition fee purposes. The freshman SLR deadline is May 1, 2015.
The transfer SLR deadline is June 1, 2015. Submit your SLR online via MyAdmission
at www.admissions.uci.edu.
3. Submit your Housing Application to live on campus.
In order to submit a housing application you must have submitted a positive SIR.
The freshman deadline to submit a housing application is May 1, 2015. The transfer
deadline to submit a housing application is June 1, 2015.
5
4.Submit your official transcripts and test scores.
Official final high school and/or college transcripts, as well as all official final test
scores such as SAT, ACT, SAT Subject, AP, IB must be sent to the UCI Admissions
Office. All transcripts must be received by July 1, 2015; all AP/IB test scores must be
received by July 15, 2015. If you are attending summer session, an official transcript
is still required by July 1 showing all coursework through spring 2015. Official
college transcripts for any courses taken during summer 2015 must be sent to the
UCI Admissions Office and received by September 15, 2015. International students
are encouraged to request official transcripts early because it may take some time for
schools outside of the U.S. to send your official transcripts to UCI. Failure to provide
official transcripts may jeopardize your enrollment at UCI. (Note: students who
did not attend four years at a high school in which the language of instruction is
English must submit official test scores for an exam that clears the English Language
Proficiency requirement by July 15, 2015. See www.admissions.uci.edu/prospective_
international/language_proficiency.html for means to clear this requirement).
Mail official transcripts to:
Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools
University of California, Irvine
260 Aldrich Hall
Irvine, CA 92697-1075
5. Take placement test(s).
Many important courses require placement test results in order for freshmen, and
in some cases transfer students, to register. In particular, writing courses often
require a test result for registration. Placement testing is offered in conjunction
with Student-Parent Orientation Program and International Student Orientation
dates during the summer and September. Visit the Academic Testing Center
website at www.testingcenter.uci.edu to obtain information about tests, testing
dates, and a guide to which placement tests you may need.
6a. FRESHMEN
Attend Student-Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) or International Student
Orientation (ISO).
New student orientation is mandatory for all freshmen. Please note that if you are
an international student, you may choose from two orientation programs; the right
program for you depends upon where you went to school prior to UCI.
The Student-Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) is a two-day-one-night
orientation offered multiple times between mid-July and mid-August. Academic
advising, course registration or enrollment, campus tours, social activities, and
meeting current and new UC Irvine students are included in the SPOP experience.
The International Student Orientation (ISO) is a three-day-two-night program that
offers many of the same elements as SPOP, but is tailored to the unique needs of
international students who did not attend high school in the United States. ISO is
offered once in September.
6
International freshmen (studying on an F-1 visa) who did not attend high school in
the U.S. will be required to attend ISO. International freshmen who did attend high
school in the U.S. will have the option of attending SPOP or ISO, but are encouraged
to attend SPOP. Freshmen who are U.S. citizens are required to attend SPOP.
In order to enroll in courses for fall quarter, you will need to register for
orientation. If you are unable to travel to Irvine during the summer to attend an
orientation program, you must request an Orientation Exception. The Orientation
Exception Request Form will be available online when your orientation reservation
window opens. The date and time of your reservation window will be sent to you
via email in early May.
Please visit the orientation website at www.students.uci.edu/orientation for more
information.
6b. TRANSFER STUDENTS
Meet with your Academic Advisor and attend Transfer Success or the
Transfer Student-Parent Orientation Program (TSPOP).
Meeting with your academic advisor is required to enroll in courses. Please contact
your advisor to schedule an appointment. Visit www.admissions.uci.edu/counseling.
Transfer Success is a one-day orientation program specifically designed for new
students transferring to the university. The program will be offered twice in July;
attendance is optional, however we hope you will join us! Our goal is for your transfer
experience at UCI to be positive and enriching, academically and socially.
At Transfer Success you will be able to meet in an informal setting with other new
transfer students and also interact with currently enrolled UCI students.
7
TSPOP is a new two-day-one-night program for transfer students interested in
a more comprehensive introduction to the university. TSPOP includes all the
elements of Transfer Success plus a wide range of informational workshops and
opportunities to make friends with new and continuing UCI students. TSPOP is
also optional and will take place once during the summer.
Transfer Success and TSPOP do not include academic advising. All transfer students
are required to make an appointment for academic advising with the school of their
major. Appointments will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration for Transfer Success and TSPOP will begin in early July. Watch your
email for information on the date and time reservations will open. To register
for Transfer Success or TSPOP and to obtain program details visit
www.students.uci.edu/orientation.
7. Pay fees.
Check your ZOT account online to see your registration fees and other charges,
as well as any financial aid, waivers or payments credited to your account at
https://zotaccount.uci.edu. Be sure to pay the amount due by the fee deadline
to avoid late charges and dropped courses.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARE ALSO ADVISED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
8. Mail your Confidential Financial Statement (CFS) with signatures and dates,
and financial documents. The freshman deadline to mail the CFS is May 1; the
transfer deadline to mail the CFS is June 1. The CFS and financial documents
received after the deadline will result in the delay of processing the I-20. If you
do not need to apply for the I-20, proceed to step 11.
You will need an F-1 student visa to study in the U.S. if you do not have a visa
status that allows you to attend school in the U.S. The I-20 will allow you to apply
for the F-1 student visa. If you are already in the U.S. in F-1 student visa status, you
must request an I-20 from UC Irvine, transfer your I-20 visa document and release
your F-1 SEVIS record to UC Irvine.
Go to your MyAdmission account on the Admissions website at
www.admissions.uci.edu to access the CFS. Follow the instructions, print the entire
CFS, obtain required signatures with dates, and mail the signed CFS and any
financial documents, including current bank letter/proof of funding to:
Attention: Records - CFS Processing
Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools
University of California, Irvine
260 Aldrich Hall
Irvine, CA 92697-1075
9. A scanned passport biographical page is required to be submitted to the
UCI International Center for issuance of an I-20 visa document.
For further instructions, visit www.ic.uci.edu.
8
10a. If you live outside of the U.S. and need to obtain an F-1 student visa
you must also:
1. Check the mail for your I-20 visa document.
Once your CFS, financial documents, and passport biographical page (instructions
available at www.ic.uci.edu to submit a scanned copy) have been received and
verified as complete, the International Center will process your I-20 visa document
within three weeks and mail it to the address stated on the CFS.
2. Apply for the F-1 student visa.
Students without an F-1 visa need to apply for one. After you receive your I-20 visa
document, you may apply for an F-1 visa. Visit the U.S. Department of State website
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html.
10b. If you are currently in the U.S. and have an F-1 visa you must also:
1. Request an electronic release of your SEVIS record from your current school to
UC Irvine. Students with an F-1 visa currently in the U.S. must complete the
Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Record Release Form.
The form is available on MyAdmission via www.admissions.uci.edu and on the
International Center website at www.ic.uci.edu. Note: Failure to follow the
instructions will delay the processing and mailing of your I-20.
2. Check the mail for your I-20 visa document issued by UCI.
Once your CFS, financial documents, passport biographical page and SEVIS
Record Release Form have been received and verified as complete, the
International Center will process your I-20 visa document within 3 weeks of
your SEVIS record release date and mail it to the address stated on the CFS as
long as all information is complete.
10c. If you live in the U.S. and plan to change to F-1 visa status you must also:
1. Plan to travel outside of the U.S. for an F-1 visa or you must file a change of
status application with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
2. Contact the International Center at internationalcenter@uci.edu for additional
information.
11. Complete iNavigateUCI.
As a new F-1/J-1 international student, you must complete the International Center
Visa Check-In process. iNavigateUCI is the International Center’s electronic visa
check-in process. This process is required for all new international students;
it is used to report your arrival to the Department of Homeland Security and
to “activate” your SEVIS record. iNavigateUCI must be completed within
15 days of your arrival to the U.S. To complete this process, please visit
www.ic.uci.edu/Students/New/checkinandorientation.php.
