Santa Ynez 4-H wins prizes at the County Fair Santa Ynez 4-H members showed off their showmanship skills at the Santa Barbara County Fair last month winning championship ribbons, plaques and belt buckles in multiple categories. Hard work throughout the year paid off for the members of this small 4-H club who won many of the top prizes in showmanship and conformation with market goats, dairy goats, sheep, turkeys, rabbits, cavies, pygmy goats, chickens, horses, and arts and crafts. Anna Scheck, who won first place in advanced dairy goat showmanship, moved on to the round robin championship later in the week, competing against all other 4-H members winning advanced showmanship in their respective large animal categories (beef, market goat, sheep, and swine) and took first place again. Ben Voorhees, won first place in advanced rabbit showmanship, moved on to the round robin championship for small stock showmanship, competing against all other 4-H winners in the small stock categories (chickens, cavies, pygmy goats, and turkeys), and also took first place. The Santa Ynez 4-H Club also produced the grand champion and the reserve grand champion turkeys, plus the reserve grand champion rabbit and market goat. The 4-H members had Harriet Heath, Community Leader and Project leader in Dairy Goats, Market Goats and Sheep as their outstanding coach, teacher, and mentor.
