Business education at Loyola began with undergraduate courses being offered in 1943. In 1967, Loyola initiated the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and in 1975, the Master of Science in Finance (MSF). In 1973, the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program was established and the MBA Fellows Program followed in 1984 in response to the needs of the region. All of these programs were the first of their kind in the state of Maryland, contributing to Loyola’s long history of excellence. In 1980, the School of Business was formed as a separate entity, being named the Reverend Joseph A. Sellinger, S.J., School of Business and Management in 1984. The Sellinger School Board of Sponsors was formed in 1981 and continues as an ongoing consultative group supporting the quality of the school. In 1983, the Sellinger School launched its Business Leader of the Year award dinner to provide the greater Baltimore-Washington business community an exceptional opportunity to honor the professional, personal, Reverend Jospeh A. Sellinger, S.J., Loyola’s 22nd president, served for 30 years. and philanthropic achievements of one of the country’s preeminent business leaders. By 1990, Loyola had achieved accreditation by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business in its undergraduate, graduate, and accounting programs and had established a chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the business student honor society. The Sellinger School enjoys its reputation as the business school of choice in the Baltimore metropolitan area as well as receiving regular national and international recognition from ranking institutions such as the Financial Times, U.S.News & World Report, BusinessWeek, and Princeton Review. Sellinger School of Business Logo Lockup Sellinger Sellinger School of Business School of Business The Loyola University Maryland logo is designed to lock up with the Sellinger type treatment in three specific ways. The Sellinger lockup can be used in one of two configurations. In some cases the lockup type treatment can be used by itself, as shown below, but only when it is fully in context of a Loyola University Maryland branded design. Sellinger School of Business Sellinger School of Business Sellinger Sellinger School of Business School of Business Sellinger School of Business Sellinger School of Business Sellinger School of Business Color Palette The palette focuses on emerald to evergreen dominant colors. Secondary colors are neutrals that complement and highlights are cool pastels with the addition of an acid green for small attention grabbing elements such as bullets and charts. Gradients from dark to mid-tone colors are a key element as well, and should be used to create a subtle vignette for large fields of color. The color grid, to the right, represents the amount of use each color should have. If it is a large area on the grid it should be used frequently for large areas of color, if it is a small area on the grid it should be used occassionally or in minimal amounts. Sellinger School of Business Editorial Photography Editorial style photography is a key element of the Sellinger brand. It provides a descriptive backdrop for issues and business concepts. Rather than trying to illustrate these concepts in abstract terms, using editorial photography can connect what is being taught in the classroom to what is happening in the world in which we live and work. It is important to select imagery that is graphically interesting and conveys a sense of realism. You will see this approach often accompanying op-eds or business feature stories on www.loyola.edu/sellinger. You will also see these images used to illustrate high level brand pillars in the brochures. Sellinger School of Business Portrait Photography Portraits of faculty, students, and alumni should be staged to convey the confidence that a Sellinger education instills in their professional abilities. Subjects should be dressed in tailored business attire appropriate to their area of business. Environments should be either professional in nature—board rooms, offices, elegant lobbies; or specific to an area of industry—retail stores, warehouses, manufacturing facilities. Sellinger School of Business Classroom Photography In the classroom, photography should be focused on the energy and interaction of the learning environment. Students should be prepared with direction on clothing choice and desktops should be de-cluttered but not empty. Clothing is business attire but slightly dressed down with open collars, ties loose, rolled sleeves, etc.) Styles should be minimal in detail or pattern—solids preferably. Colors should be subtle and either darks or pastels— light blues, pinks, and whites for shirts, and dark blues, grays, and browns for suits. Lighting should be color-corrected to cancel out the strong warm tones in deference to a cool, clean, high-contrast style. When real students and faculty are used, classroom scenes should be prepped with appropriate lighting and staging to capture this style. Rich, full bleed gradients create elegant space for bold typography. Pin stripe overlays evoke images of fine business suits and the engraved detail of paper money or stock certificates. Linear and angular design elements such as rules and trapezoids create a sense of direction and help reinforce the grid in a layout. These shapes should use transparency or subtle drop shadows to create a trompe l’oeil effect. Sellinger School of Business Typographic Theory The dominant typeface for Sellinger is Mercury. A family of display and text faces, Mercury is a contemporary serif that’s smart, quick, and articulate.
