Now is the time to plan your show strategy, and, from past experience, here are a few tips.: • The tradeshow experience begins in your store. • Visit booths in priority order, so if you run out of time, you’ve covered the most essential ones. • Be sure to take notes to share with the staff at home to help motivate them to sell the new things you picked up • Poll your sales associates about recent sales activity to determine subtle movement in style trends and price-point activity. • Review your inventory for slow sellers at the show. • Have a firm buying plan in mind, and and try to determine what decision points you should change going into this year’s show. When it comes to trends, it isn’t about the popularity of a particular hue, but rather it is about the ebb and flow of groups of colors and the manner in which manufacturers and designers apply those hues to the goods they create. Driven by forces such as the economy, politics, technology and the environment, trends in color are a reflection of the consumer mindset. As the economy continues to rise and fall, those with an eye toward fashion look for stability. The colors of 2010 are less seasonal than in years past. With this in mind, the color trends we discuss in this and following issues will concentrate more on their appeal to shoppers than on seasonality. In 2010, nature continues to play a key role in influencing consumer desires. In the coming year, nature and technology align, resulting in “eco-thought.” Eco-thought is a step beyond ecoconsciousness, as shoppers adopt earth-friendly behavior as the norm as opposed to a behavior to which to aspire. Super heroes, a force that started to form last year, are rising to the forefront in 2010. This super hero influence is especially strong with younger shoppers, who, according to The Color Association of the United States, “perceive themselves as the future of change.” The color palettes of 2010 embrace both the light and dark side of the hero. Culture also plays an important role in the coming year. Architectural details and fabrics of faraway lands continue to intrigue shoppers. Bright Hues Our second color palette for 2010 features spirited brights that inspire thoughts of South American tango dancers and 1940’s silver screen sirens. Bold designs are natural complements to vivacious colors, attracting outgoing personalities who want jewelry that is a reflection of their personal style.
