Dear Elvis Fans,
Welcome to Memphis and Elvis Week
2016. We appreciate your being here
with us to help pay tribute to the life and
legacy of Elvis Presley, as we celebrate the
60th anniversary of Elvis’ breakout year.
We are so excited to be in the midst of
the greatest expansion in Graceland
history. You certainly can’t miss
our beautiful, new Guest House at
Graceland, still under construction, but
nearly finished and looking amazing, as we
Jack Soden · CEO
Elvis Presley Enterprises
get ready for our Grand Opening on October
27th. We know you’re going to love our
new hotel, so we can’t wait for you to join us for one of our special events -- or just a
fun weekend -- later this year and throughout 2017 and beyond. We look forward to
introducing you to some of our new Guest House senior staff over the course of Elvis
Week. Of course, we also want to salute and pay tribute to our beloved Heartbreak
Hotel, and its incredible team – they have been such a vital part of our Graceland
family for nearly 18 years, and we are fortunate that so many staff members will be
moving to The Guest House in late October.
2016 has been a remarkable year for Graceland and Elvis. We were so proud to
welcome our 20 Millionth visitor back in May. And Elvis was back at the top of the
charts in many countries with the new Sony Legacy album “If I Can Dream: Elvis
Presley with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra,” executive produced by Priscilla
Presley and released at the end of last year. We also opened our new VIP Exhibit,
“Elvis in Hollywood: From Teen Idol to Leading Man” here at Graceland, which
features artifacts from nearly all 33 of Elvis’ movies, including awards, wardrobe and
several of Elvis’ personal scripts. Be sure to see this exhibit while you’re here.
I hope you’ll experience everything that Elvis Week has to offer, from our live concerts
and dance parties to our special guest stars on the main stage; from our Insiders event
to the Auction at Graceland; and from our Conversations on Elvis to our new Elvis Fan
Reunion event celebrating all of you. Of course, it culminates with our Candlelight
Vigil, which continues to be such a special night for all of us.
Have a wonderful week here at Graceland.

GRACELAND INTRODUCES
NEW WEB SERIES
This past September, Graceland kicked-off a new
Graceland.com web series titled “Gates of Graceland.”
This web series was designed to dive deeper into many
different facets of Elvis’ life and career, his beloved
Graceland, and his ongoing legacy and impact on the
world. During this inaugural year, the series has thumbed
through Elvis’ personal record collection, taken fans
to places they have never been before at Graceland, showed off a piece of very personal Elvis
Christmas history, stepped inside some of his beloved cars and much more. Stay tuned to
Graceland.com this fall as we continue to roll out a new episode each month. To watch all the
past Gates of Graceland episodes, visit Graceland.com/Gates.
NEW VIP EXHIBIT
CELEBRATES ELVIS
IN HOLLYWOOD
Elvis added movie star to his growing list
of accomplishments in 1956 when his first
film, “Love Me Tender,” opened in theaters.
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of
Elvis’ film debut, Graceland opened a new,
limited-time VIP exhibit at Graceland this
year celebrating his career in Hollywood.
The exhibit, included as part of the Graceland VIP tour, explores Elvis’ 31 feature films and two
concert documentaries through displays of movie costumes, scripts, photos, video and other
fascinating artifacts from Elvis’ movie career.

WELCOMES
20 MILLIONTH
VISITOR
On May 3, Graceland welcomed its 20 millionth visitor.
Newlywed Tiffany Greenoak, originally from Montreal,
Canada, and now residing in London, England, was
named the lucky visitor while on her honeymoon with
her husband Robert. The couple had no idea that they
were about to become part of Graceland history when
handed their tickets for the tour. Jack Soden, CEO of
Elvis Presley Enterprises, greeted the newlyweds in
front of Graceland to reveal to them their 20 millionth
status before they were taken on a private tour by staff
from the Graceland Archives and congratulated over
the phone by Priscilla Presley.
“We played Elvis music at our wedding, so for us as a
couple, this trip to Memphis has tremendous meaning. It has been a dream to visit Graceland. I just can’t
believe we’re here. We both grew up with Elvis music
in our homes, our mums were big fans,” said Tiffany.
“It says a lot that 20 million people have been here and
to turn out to be the 20 millionth visitor is an incredible
honor. We’ll have to come back for our anniversary and
maybe we’ll be the 40 millionth visitor.”

BY THE
IMPORTANT INFORMATION & GUIDELINES
Numbers
A Graceland.com fan favorite,
the Graceland Blog recently
took a deep dive to explore the
numbers behind Elvis’ beloved
home. Here is a sneak peak at
some of those numbers:
MONDAY, AUGUST 15 · 8:30 P.M.
GATES OF GRACELAND
PARKING - The Memphis Police will begin
closing traffic on Elvis Presley Blvd. from
Bluebird St. to Craft Rd. around 6:00 p.m. on
August 15. Security-patrolled parking for the
vigil will be available FREE of charge beginning
at 6:00 p.m. in the regular Graceland visitor
parking facility. Vehicles will be allowed to pass
through the police barricades to come and go
from the parking area all evening.
Built in 1939,
Graceland is currently 77
VIGIL PROCESS - The opening ceremony
takes place at 8:30 p.m. on August 15 near the
front gates of the mansion property. Fans gather
in the street and in Graceland Plaza. At the end
of the ceremony, torches lit from the eternal
flame at Elvis’ grave are brought down to the
gate. The queue line starts to move as fans walk
through gates and light their candles from the
torches and then walk single file up the driveway
to the gravesite in the Meditation Garden and
back down. To accommodate everyone who
is in line, the procession lasts into the morning
of August 16, the anniversary of Elvis’ passing.
Graceland staff members are positioned all
along the way to offer assistance.

CANDLES - Graceland provides free candles

own. These may be obtained at the Guest
Services Desk in the ticket pavilion during the
afternoon or early evening of August 15 or at the
barricaded area at the front gate anytime during
the vigil.

CONSIDERATION - Please be considerate
of others and do not hold up the movement
or flow of the procession by lingering at the
gravesite, stepping out of line to remain in
the garden, bunching up into groups, etc. The
idea is to have a continuous single file flow.
If you would like to spend more time in the
Meditation Garden during Elvis Week, please
see the event listings for the schedule of free
walk up visit availability in the mornings and
several evenings of Elvis Week.

SECURITY - As a security precaution, no bags or
folding chairs (including camera bags, backpacks,
shopping bags, briefcases or luggage items) will
be allowed on the mansion property. Any bags
or packages that you have should be returned to
your car before entering the queue line for the
vigil. No one will be allowed through the mansion
gates with any of these items. Any other items
carried onto the property are subject to search.
To read the full “Graceland by the
Numbers” blog and other blog posts,

is published each week and presents
photos, facts, historical information,
quizzes and more, all focused on Elvis’
movies, music, life and legacy.

however, camera tripods, selfie sticks, video

cans, and glass containers are prohibited on
the mansion grounds. The Graceland/EPE
staff provides water at stations at the front
gate and mid-way up the mansion driveway.
SMOKING - Smoking is not allowed
anywhere on the Graceland Mansion property.
In the interest of the health and comfort of
others, smokers on the street and on the plaza
property are encouraged to find open, noncrowded areas to smoke.
BEHAVIOR – Boisterous or otherwise
disruptive behavior and loud noise are
prohibited on the mansion grounds. Those
who insist upon violating the rules or behaving
inappropriately will be escorted from the
mansion or plaza property. Graceland Security
and the Memphis Police will deal with those
issues if any arise.
FLOWERS OR MEMORIALS - You are
welcome to bring single flowers, small
bouquets or other small remembrances to
place at the gravesite as you walk by in the
procession. Larger floral arrangements or
memorial displays may be taken to the front
gate guard house any time and Graceland staff
will take care of placement.
FIRST AID - First aid will be available
along the procession and queue line as
needed by contacting any Graceland/EPE
staff member or a police officer for assistance.
Outside the mansion grounds there will be
two special first aid locations. One will be
in the specially marked area in front of the
mansion gates. The other will be located
