November 2014 Ducati Company Introduction Founded in 1926, Ducati now builds racing-inspired motorcycles characterised by “Desmodromic” performance engines, innovative design, and avant-garde technology. The company produces a range of premium motorcycles with technical and design features that are relevant in the main market segments and grouped into six unique model families: Diavel, Hypermotard, Monster, Multistrada, Scrambler, Superbike. Ducati’s main factory site and headquarters is located in the Borgo Panigale area of Bologna, Italy, with an additional assembly factory in the Rayong Province of Thailand and a CKD provider in Manaus, Brazil. Brand Characteristics Throughout its range, Ducati combines sophisticated, race-derived technology with unique brand characteristics such as Desmodromic valve control, 90° L-twin cylinder engines, innovative chassis solutions, benchmark electronics, unique sound and Italian Design. Racing Ducati competed in the 2014 World Superbike Championship with an official factory team and the 2014 World MotoGP Championship with both an official and a factory-supported team. In Superbike, Ducati has won 17 Manufacturers' titles and 14 Riders' titles and in 2011 passed the historic milestone of 300 race victories. Ducati’s 2014 World Superbike riders, Chaz Davies (United Kingdom) and Davide Giuliano (Italy) competed in the championship aboard the 1199 Panigale. Ducati has participated in MotoGP since 2003, winning both the Manufacturers' and Riders' titles in 2007. For 2014, the official factory Ducati Team competed the Desmosedici GP14 with riders, Cal Crutchlow (United Kingdom) and Andrea Dovizioso (Italy), while the factory-supported Pramac Racing Team’s line-up is factory rider, Andrea Iannone (Italy) and Pramac rider, Yonny Hernandez (Colombia). A small auxiliary engine for bicycles, which soon became famous throughout the world. 1985 Ducati is acquired by Claudio and Gianfranco Castiglioni, and becomes part of the Cagiva Group. Increased investment in product development leads the way to multiple victories in the World Superbike Championship. 1993 Ducati commence production of the Monster, and establish what is to become known as the “naked bike” category. The model becomes synonymous with Italian style and legendary within the world of motorcycling. 1994 Ducati introduce the 916 Superbike, winning the title "Motorcycle of the Year" from the world’s motorcycle press and setting new standards for technology, style and performance. The 916 has since become the icon of motorcycle design. 1996 Ducati is acquired by the Texas Pacific Group, an American investment fund, which injects capital and introduces a new team of international managers, including CEO and Chairman Federico Minoli. Ducati unveil a concept motorcycle at the International Motorcycle Show in Milan: The Hypermotard. Its aggressive “motard” styling and stance combined with Ducati “sportbike” technology creates a new sector in the industry. Ducati also present its 2006 range, including the top-of-the-range Monster S4RS equipped with the Superbike’s Testastretta engine and the Ducati 999R Xerox, a replica of the World Superbike Championship-winning machine. 2006 On 1 March, Texas Pacific Group reach agreement with InvestIndustrial Holding S.A. for the transfer of the majority shareholding stake in Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. At the Milan Show, Ducati present its 2007 models including the definitive version of the Hypermotard and the new generation of Superbike: The 1098. Launched as the most powerful twin-cylinder motorcycle in the world with the highest torque-to-weight ratio of any sportbike, the 1098 is awarded “Best Bike of the Year”. 2007 On 21 May, the Board of Directors appoints Gabriele Del Torchio as the new Chief Executive Officer of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. and Giampiero Paoli as President. Later in the year Australian rider, Casey Stoner, secures Ducati’s first ever MotoGP World Championship title as well as the Constructors’ title. It is the first time in 34 years that an Italian manufacturer takes victory in the premium category of Grand Prix racing. 2008 In October at Magny-Cours, France, Troy Bayliss takes his third and final World Superbike title aboard the Ducati 1098F08 and retires from racing at the end of the year. It represents Ducati’s 13th Riders’ title and 15th Manufacturers’ title in the World Superbike Championship. The company expands the Hypermotard family with an entry-level 796 model, an enhanced 1100EVO and an extreme and track-ready 1100EVO SP version. In October, Ducati celebrates its 16th World Superbike Manufacturers’ title and victory in the highly competitive Superstock Championship with the 1098. In November, Ducati unveils the Multistrada 1200 and its innovative four-bikes-in-one concept establishes a new industry benchmark. 2010 The Multistrada 1200 starts first production. The World Ducati Week event attracts a record 60,000 people to the famous rally for passionate Ducati enthusiasts. In November, Ducati unveils the new 2011 Diavel at the Milan motorcycle show. 2011 The Diavel starts first production. Spaniard Carlos Checa records Ducati’s 300th World Superbike race victory aboard the Ducati 1198 and later celebrates his first World Championship title. The win brings Ducati’s list of Riders’ titles to 14 and Manufacturers’ titles to 17 in World Superbike. On the same day, Italian rider, Davide Giugliano, secures the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup Rider’s and Manufacturers’ titles, also with the Ducati 1198. In September, production for the Monster 795 starts at Ducati’s new assembly plant in the Rayong province of Thailand. At the Milan show in November, Ducati unveil the new generation Superbike, the 1199 Panigale, making a significant reference to its historic roots in the Borgo Panigale area of Bologna. The model introduced stunning new concepts and technologies to the sportbike category. Ducati close the year by announcing record sales with 42,200 delivered to owners worldwide. The new Board of Directors appoints the CEO of Audi AG, Rupert Stadler, as President of the Board and Gabriele Del Torchio and Claudio Domenicali from Ducati as Members of the Board alongside Horst Glaser and Axel Strotbek of Audi AG. Gabriele Del Torchio is appointed CEO of Ducati Motor Holding. In October, at the Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany, Ducati shows the new Multistrada 1200 range with semi-active Skyhook suspension and a 20th Anniversary Monster range. In November, at the Eicma motorcycle show in Milan, the new generation Hypermotard family and flagship Superbike model, the 1199 Panigale R are unveiled. Further expansion in South America is announced in June, with Ducati’s Brazilian Subsidiary declared fully operational and a trade agreement made with Volkswagen Argentina S.A. that would facilitate the distribution of Ducati Motorcycles in that market. September sees the unveiling of the 2014 899 Panigale at the Volkswagen Group Night in Frankfurt followed, in October, by an emotional unveiling of 1199 Panigale S Senna at the Sao Paolo Motorcycle show in Brazil. The special version, available exclusively in Brazil, has been designed and built in accordance with the Senna Foundation to a limited edition number of just 161, the number of GPs contested by the Brazilian F1 star. In the same month, Ducati proudly introduced another limited edition dream model, the highly exclusive 1199 Superleggera. The new machine, in a limited production of 500, combined precious materials such as titanium, magnesium and carbon fibre to set the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle in history. The highly exclusive machine is almost sold out before its first public showing at the Milan International Motorcycle show in November. More than two decades after the Monster’s first unveiling, Ducati unveils the iconic model’s latest generation at November’s Milan International Motorcycle show in November with the Monster 1200 and 1200 S. Powered by the formidable, Superbike-derived 1198 Testastretta 11° DS engine, the brand new flagship of the family sported a distinctive and muscular design, fully integrated with Ducati’s latest technologies. In November of 2013, Mr. Luigi Dall’Igna enters Ducati as the new General Manager of Ducati Corse and the company announcs the return of the official factory team in World Superbike. 2013 closes with another record year of global sales, with 44,287 motorcycles delivered to owners worldwide. At the end of the same month, the Italian iconic motorcycle manufacturer announces the introduction of the Multistrada D-Air® model, featuring a fully integrated, intelligent system of sensors wirelessly connected to Ducati Apparel airbag jackets by Dainese. Following the successful unveiling of the new generation Monster 1200 Ducati now introduces the Monster 821, a mid-size version of the exciting new model and the latest entry to the world of Monster. Following many years of rumour and speculation around the project, Ducati confirms the existence of the Scrambler in June 2014 with a private viewing of the prototype Scrambler to Ducati employees in Bologna. Intended for 2015 production, Ducati decides to announce the arrival of the new model to its employees first, underlining the appreciation it has of its workforce, announcing it as the beating heart of the company. Ducati’s focus on design and style is rewarded with the highly prestigious Compasso d'Oro design award. The Ducati 1199 Panigale is the first ever motorcycle to be presented with Italy's most important design award. 2014 sees the eighth edition of World Ducati Week, the international, bi-annual Ducati gathering that attracts thousands of enthusiasts from the global Ducati community. With owners from five continents and 56 countries, the event is an outstanding success and a sign of loyalty, passion and love for Ducati’s legendary motorcycles. Late September at INTERMOT 2014 – the International Motorcycle Show in Cologne (Germany) – Ducati finally unveiled one of the most eagerly awaited new models, the Ducati Scrambler in Icon, Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic versions.
