The accommodation from Saturday to Sunday (including breakfast) is already included in the package price. 1st Day Sunday: Malaga – Ronda (16 miles) Our bike trip begins after a short bus ride up to the small village of Canete la Real in the mountains of the Serrania de Ronda. From here, we cross a beautiful landscape of sunflower and asparagus fields, olive groves and red earth. The route to Setenil de las Bodegas is mainly downhill and affords spectacular views of the several "pueblos blancos" (white villages). Tonight the luxurious Hotel "Reina Victoria" with its tropical gardens and 19th century flair awaits us in Ronda. Before dinner, we will visit this formerly Moorish town perched on a cliff as well as its famous bullfighting arena. 2nd Day Monday: Ronda – Arcos de la Frontera (26 miles) In the morning, the bus takes us to the lush mountainous landscape of the Sierra de Grazalema. After a brief visit of the homonymous village, we soon reach Puerto de las Palomas and enjoy a gorgeous panoramic view. Today’s biking starts with a beautiful descent to Zahara de la Sierra and its imposing 13th century castle of the Nasrid dynasty. Shortly before our lunch break, we enjoy a tasting at an olive mill of the 17th century. In the afternoon, we bike along the Via Verde de la Sierra (Green Route), a former railroad track, enjoying the stunning landscape until we reach Puerto Serrano above Rio Guadalete. From there a bus takes us to what is perhaps the most original and typical Andalusian town - Arcos de la Frontera, dramatically positioned on a precipitous rock. We will stay at the charming Hotel "Los Olivos". After showing you the most interesting places and buildings of Arcos, we will have dinner in one of the old town’s typical restaurants. 3rd Day Tuesday: Arcos de la Frontera – Sevilla (26 miles) Today’s itinerary takes us along the gently rolling hills between Arcos de la Frontera and Gibalbin. Embedded in wild vineyards, this little town is famous for its sherry production. We circle the little mountain range of Las Cabezas de San Juan, passing through a nature reserve of cork trees, small lakes and haciendas. In the early afternoon, we reach the small farming town of Lebrija and, after a short train ride, beautiful Seville. In the historic town center, we are awaited at the very cultivated and charming hotel "Las Casas de la Juderia". After an extensive guided tour of Seville including the Alcazar palace and the Giralda cathedral, we will have dinner in a stylish old town restaurant. 4th Day Wednesday: Sevilla – Carmona (25 miles) In the morning, you have the opportunity to discover some more of this extraordinary city on your own. In order to avoid the intense traffic around Seville, in the late morning a bus will take us out of the city in a 20 minute ride and we begin our bike tour near the small town of Utrera. From here, we cross a rather flat landscape of sunflower fields and haciendas, cycling on small roads with nearly no traffic. Today, the vastness of Andalusia, as well as the scope and economic importance of the large farms, become apparent. In the early afternoon, we reach the lovely town of Carmona, high above the Rio Corbones. The "Alcázar de la Reina", an elegant and enchanting hotel in the Moorish style, welcomes us for tonight’s stay. On a bike tour through the old town, founded by the Cathars, you will also see the Roman necropolis of the first century. 5th Day Thursday: Carmona – Palma del Rio (29 miles) A bus takes us in about 90 minutes to La Puebla de los Infantes, high in the hills of the Sierra Morena. From here, most of today’s tour leads down the gentle slope of this mountain range through a gorgeous landscape of cork oak and chestnut groves, with the famous black Iberian pigs and bulls grazing underneath the trees. After a ride along olive groves and the barrier lake El Retortillo, we bike through the protected area of the Parque Natural de la Sierra de Hornachuelos. In the afternoon, the last 20 minutes on a busy road are inevitable before reaching Palma del Rio, superbly located on the estuaries of the rivers Rio Guadalquivir and Rio Genil, the lifelines of Andalusias agriculture. We are guests at the charming "Hospedería de San Francisco", a hotel set in a 15th century former monastery with a lovely pool in the medieval gardens. We will dine in the monks’ former refectory. 6th Day Friday: Palma del Rio – Cordoba (24 miles) To circumvent a monotonous countryside along the Guadalquivir River, we will be taken into the eastern Sierra Morena by bus. This rather wild and secluded area is particularly well known for the raising of fighting bulls. The approach to Cordoba is mostly downhill, on small backroads with little traffic contact. The last miles lead along palmtree avenues in the elegant quarter El Brillante and through the old city center. You will get a first impression of this magnificent metropolis. The centrally located Hotel "Macia Alfaros" welcomes us tonight (pool). There will be some time to go for a stroll through the alleys of this Moorish city or buy some delicatessen, before we celebrate our farewell dinner in a well-known typical restaurant offering Cordobese specialties. 7th Day Saturday: Córdoba – Málaga In the morning, a local tour guide will lead us through its center with a visit to spectacular sights such as the former Great Mosque and the old synagogue. Around noon, we will take the bus or train to Malaga. From here, you have excellent flight connections to most large European cities, as well as good connections to the US via Madrid, London or Frankfurt.
