Jeffrey Coprich
A native of Watts, California, Coprich is one of Cal's most active participants in community service
and has been especially inspired by a family tragedy during his childhood when his seven-year-old
sister, Essence, lost her life in a car accident that he survived.

Shortly after the passing of his sister, the 116th Street Elementary School she had attended in Watts
named the school library after her and Coprich along with help from his family founded the Jeffrey
Coprich Book Club in her honor.
"I wanted to help out young kids with reading," Coprich said. "I had trouble reading as a kid, so I
always wanted to give back to the young kids so they wouldn't have that problem."
In 2012, Coprich also started the Unsung Heroes program along with his father, Jeffrey Sr. The
program serves high school football student-athletes in the South Los Angeles area, recognizing
their academic and athletic accomplishments as well as their volunteerism.

"Anytime anybody gets a chance to go out and talk to young kids sometimes it really changes their
lives," Coprich added. "Fortunately I've had a chance to see a change in some kids' lives. I'm just
giving back and doing the same thing that was done for me."
Head coach Sonny Dykes had plenty of praise for Coprich.
"Jeffrey Coprich represents all that is good about being a student-athlete playing college football,"
Dykes said. "There are great lessons to be learned from his approach to life. He has taken
challenging situations and made the best of them. His efforts have had such a tremendously positive
effect on so many others."
Jeffrey and his dad recently returned from New Orleans to take part in a community project that
lead up to the 2015 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Allstate® Sugar Bowl®.
Coprich, who in 2012 received the prestigious Watkins Scholar Athlete of the Year Award given
annually by the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Alliance of African American Athletes and many
other citations and awards.

capacity to excel. Known for his generosity of spirit and willingness to share his time and talents with
others, he is dedicated to the advancement of his peers and future generations alike.

Following the 1992 Los Angeles civil unrest, Jeffrey Coprich, Sr. started mentoring local youth,
encouraging them and helping them to achieve their highest potential. It was then that he founded The
Inner City Youth Foundation, Inc. & the Los Angeles Inner City Mass Choir with only 12 members, who
were resided in various housing projects throughout Watts.

Coprich has continued to be an outstanding role model for youth around the community at- large,
especially for fatherless youth. On numerous occasions, he has opened up his home in order to spare
young people from gang violence. Today, Jeffrey and his wife Danielle Coprich, continue to provide a
safe haven for at-risk youth. They lead by example in showing others how to live a Godly lifestyle and
work hard to ensure that each choir member fulfills their God-given purpose.
Behind the scenes, Jeffrey has worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District to promote literacy in
his community and to campaign on behalf of low-performing and underserved schools. In addition to co Founding Jeffrey J Coprich Jr, Book Club named after his son, he is responsible for the dedication of the
116th Street School Library in honor of his late daughter Essence.
He produces major community events annually: The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and
Unsung Heroes Awards in conjunction with Congresswoman Maxine Waters. The event brings
community leaders and celebrities together to celebrate change and youth empowerment. Jeffrey is
determined, dedicated and faithful to our youth and their future.
Jeffrey has received many certificates and proclamations from our City, State and Congressional officials
but not anything compared to the Forgiving For Living Inc. 2014 Plus Awards.
Jeffrey is the proud father of Jeffrey J.Coprich, Jr. a student at the University of California Berkeley where
his is a running back on the football team and the Husband of Danielle "Queen" Coprich and one
daughter Essence K. Coprich preceded in death at the age of seven in a tragic car accident.

The Inaugural Curtis Garrett Jr. Humanitarian Award will be presented at the 2016 Unsung Heroes Awards. Thank You Curtis Garrett, for being a

Congresswoman Maxine Waters is considered by many to be one of the
most powerful women in American politics today. She has gained a
reputation as a fearless and outspoken advocate for women, children,
people of color and the poor.
Elected in November 2012 to her twelfth term in the House of
Representatives with more than 70 percent of the vote in the 43rd
Congressional District of California, Congresswoman Waters represents a
large part of South Central Los Angeles including the communities of
Westchester, Playa Del Rey, and Watts and the unincorporated areas of Los
Angeles County comprised of Lennox, West Athens, West Carson, Harbor
Gateway and El Camino Village.
Throughout her 37 years of public service, Maxine Waters has been on the
cutting edge, tackling difficult and often controversial issues. She has
combined her strong legislative and public policy acumen and high visibility
in Democratic Party activities with an unusual ability to do grassroots
organizing.
Congresswoman Waters serves as the Ranking Member of the House
Committee on Financial Services. An integral member of Congressional
Democratic Leadership, Congresswoman Waters serves as a member of the
Steering & Policy Committee. She is also a member of the Congressional
Progressive Caucus, and member and past chair of the Congressional Black
Caucus.
She is lauded by African American entrepreneurs for her work to expand
contracting and procurement opportunities and to strengthen businesses.
Long active in the women's movement, Rep. Waters has given
encouragement and financial support to women seeking public office. Many
young people, including those in the hip-hop music community, praise her
for her support and understanding of young people and their efforts at selfexpression. One testament to her work is the Maxine Waters Employment
Preparation Center, a multimillion dollar campus providing education and
employment opportunities to residents of the Watts area.

Jessica is a busy young actress and can currently be seen in a new national Hefty Ultimate
Flex commercial. She was in Robin Thicke's "Still Madly Crazy" music video and also known
for Fandango Reel Kids where she has worked alongside Jack Black and varies other
comedians. The Internship Games, alongside Tanya R Banks #1LilBoss from Little Women in
LA and a supporting role as Denise Boutte's (of Meet the Browns & Why Did I Get Married)
daughter in the documentary. "Touched - The Film.” "Touched" is based on the book by
author/director Terrance Tykeem.
She also performed in Debbie Allen's "Hot Chocolate Nutcracker with Raven-Symone and
production singing alongside Tichnia Arnold and the short film "Bristol Place" which deals with
domestic violence.
On top of her busy schedule as a series regular and film actress, Jessica has appeared in
several AT&T and Walmart commercials; as well as Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Sports Awards.
She is also a red carpet correspondent for FTS Kids News and volunteers every Friday as a
Bookpals reader at an inner city elementary school.

This native of Los Angeles caught the stage bug at an early age and began
by singing, dancing, and acting. From school plays, talent, shows, pageants
and anywhere they’d have her, she loved the electricity she felt from being
on stage.
