St. Helen’s Hotel, Dublin, Ireland ‘ Delightful & Gracious’ In the year 1750, when Dublin was the second largest city in the English speaking world, Sir Thomas Cooley, MP. instructed his architect to build him a delightful and gracious mansion in which he could entertain the nobility and gentry of Britain and Ireland. They choose a magnificent location overlooking Dublin Bay on the southern side of the city and they raised this stately house which they called ‘Seamount’.This stately home was later purchased by Viscount Gough who renamed it: St. Helen’s.
