Not just because the area boasts some of the state’s best sports facilities, but because of its diversity, which ranges from natural outdoor spaces to awardwinning fields and multisport complexes. TUALATIN HILLS ATHLETIC COMPLEX The following is a closer look at Washington County’s multisport complexes, which provide state-of-the-art facilities, a variety of amenities and an array of sports that can be accommodated. HILLSBORO PARKS & RECREATION 53RD AVE. SPORTS FIELDS 300 NE 53rd Ave., Hillsboro www.ci.hillsboro.or.us/ParksRec 503-681-6120 The 53rd Ave. Sports Fields are approximately 178,000 square feet of all-weather artificial turf. With lighted fields striped for two soccer/lacrosse fields, this venue can also accommodate a wide variety of sports and other recreational activities. Amenities include restroom and a concessions building adjacent to the fields. Amenities include playground equipment. TUALATIN HILLS PARK & RECREATION DISTRICT (THPRD) HOWARD M. TERPENNING COMPLEX 15707 SW Walker Rd., Beaverton www.thprd.org 503-645-6433 The Howard M. Terpenning Complex is a 90-acre facility featuring bleacher seating for 1,500 spectators. This indoor/outdoor venue offers an abundance of space to accommodate a diverse number of sporting events. Indoor facilities include: athletic center with six indoor courts and running track, aquatic center with a 50-meter pool and three high-dive platforms, and tennis center with 14 indoor courts. Outdoor facilities include: five lighted softball/youth baseball fields, two lighted baseball-only fields, two lighted turf soccer/ lacrosse fields and three natural turf soccer/lacrosse fields, roller hockey rink, skate park, and four basketball courts. Amenities of the Howard M. Terpenning Complex include concessions, restrooms, playgrounds and walking paths. THPRD/PCC ROCK CREEK RECREATION FACILITY – TUALATIN HILLS PARK & RECREATION DISTRICT 17705 NW Springville Rd., Portland www.thprd.org 503-614-7267 THPRD/PCC Rock Creek Recreation Facility, located on the Rock Creek campus of Portland Community College (PCC) in the northeastern corner of Washington County, is a recently constructed 32-acre recreation facility featuring two synthetic turf fields, four sand-based baseball fields, two natural-turf practice fields and six lighted tennis courts. This venue boasts 170,000 square feet of lighted all-weather artificial turf and seven lighted natural-grass ball fields. Amenities include a jogging path on the perimeter of the complex, locker rooms, concession stands, an on-site playground, and a nearby dog park. HARE FIELD – HILLSBORO PARKS & RECREATION 5 facilities PACIFIC UNIVERSITY LINCOLN PARK STADIUM Lincoln Park Stadium is a recently renovated multisport facility with stadium seating for 1,000 spectators. The stadium features an all-weather lighted turf field and a nine-lane all-weather track with long-jump pits along the straightaway. Amenities include press boxes with wireless Internet, wheelchair access via elevators and directional lighting on the field. oregonswashingtoncounty.com SHERMAN/LARKINS STADIUM 6 Sherman/Larkins Stadium is a recently renovated softball facility with stadium seating for 300 spectators. Amenities of this facility include press boxes with wireless Internet, wheelchair access via elevators, concession stands, enclosed bullpens, enclosed batting cages, inning-byinning scoreboards and ample equipment storage rooms. CHUCK BAFARO STADIUM Chuck Bafaro Stadium is a recently renovated baseball facility with stadium seating for 500 spectators. Amenities include press boxes with wireless Internet, wheelchair access via elevators, concession stands, enclosed bullpens, enclosed batting cages and equipment storage rooms. PACIFIC ATHLETIC CENTER Pacific Athletic Center, known as “PAC,” is a 95,000-square-foot athletic center with bleacher seating for 2,500 spectators. PAC features three basketball/volleyball courts, a wrestling room, three racquetball courts and a dance studio. Amenities include a 15,000-square-foot field house used for multisport practice during the wet season, a 5,000-square-foot weight and fitness room, locker rooms, saunas and 16 private team rooms. ADDITIONAL MULTI-USE FACILITIES LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL 21945 NW Wagon Way, Hillsboro www.hsd.k12.or.us/liberty 503-844-1277 Liberty High School in Hillsboro opened in 2003 and is home to several multi-purpose athletic facilities. The school features indoor bleacher seating for up to 3,000 spectators and outdoor covered stadium seating for 3,400 spectators. Amenities include covered dugouts, scoreboards, an enclosed press box and two concession facilities. Indoor venues include a gym with one full-size court used for basketball, volleyball and badminton, and a second gym with a shorter court for additional practice space and games, room for wrestling, and dance. Outdoor venues include three lighted turf fields, two unlighted grass fields, an all-weather eight-lane lighted track situated around the main turf field and four baseball fields (two lighted and regulation size).
