18th Trending: Wichita Women’s Fair 2016 The 18th Women’s Fair Feb. 19-21 will showcase the latest trends in fashion, food, home décor, hairstyles, beauty products, spa treatments and jewelry as well as health and fitness, leadership and business. There is something for everyone – and shopping galore – under one roof at Century II where more than 300 exhibitors form a unique marketplace filled with thousands of ideas and products. In addition, 27 stage shows will feature the latest in fashions from area retailers as well as cooking demonstrations by local chefs. New Saturday events this year include KFDI’s Doggie Fashion Show at noon, Channel 963’s Shocker Pride Fashion Contest at 2 p.m. and Eric Fisher Live at 4 p.m. Back by popular demand are the fitness challenge, health screenings, business workshop, model search and on-stage contests. Arrive early to receive a door prize: The first 250 women through the doors on Friday will receive a Go Red for Women insulated lunch sack from Via Christi Health; the first 250 to arrive on Saturday will receive a jewelry travel pouch from Riddle’s Jewelry; and the first 200 on Sunday will receive a designer key ring from MODE® Designer Discount Boutique. The grand prize for each age group is a modeling scholarship for professional training, a contract with Models and Images and an opportunity to interview with modeling scouts from around the world. Past winners have had their dreams come true after signing lucrative modeling contracts with some of the world’s most prestigious agencies and modeling in Paris, Milan, London and New York City for such designers as Versace, Alexander Wang, Tommy Hilfiger, Urban Outfitters and the Gap. From the Boot Camp Fitness Challenge to learning about Zumba, martial arts and sailing, the Women’s Fair will show women a myriad of ways to improve their physical well-being. More than 50 health-related booths will provide information, experts, products and services on health and fitness issues for women of all ages and stages of life. The Boot Camp Fitness Challenge has returned for the ninth year with the team earning the most points winning a trip to Las Vegas. Attendees who sign up at Genesis booth E-11 receive a free five-week membership – including coaching, training and workout sessions -- at a Genesis club, which has five Wichita locations. The goal is for every participant to achieve “measurable” results – and have fun while getting fit, according to organizer and sponsor Genesis Health Clubs. The competition has been designed to help women adopt a healthier lifestyle and make better choices about exercise and nutrition. The challenge is open to teams of four (if you don’t have a team we can match you with others). At least two need to be present to register. W hat better way to start the weekend than with some girlfriends and Bonnie Bing? A business workshop starts at 3 p.m. followed by a wine tasting, cooking demonstration, fashion and hair show, and great shopping til 8 p.m. Kick off the evening with a fashion show on the Main Stage or a presentation and wine tasting by Guy Bower on the Cooking Stage at 5:30 p.m. “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts,” Bower said about his presentation, “Blended Wines -- Great Value, Great Taste…Great Fun!” Bower is host of “The Good Life” radio show on KNSS. Seating is limited so get there early. Chef Joe Parten of Carrabba’s, a fan favorite, will demonstrate cooking four authentic Hands of Hope Rescue volunteers and their canine companions will be available throughout the show with adoption applications and information on foster care and adoption in booth L-16. Cooking Stage Sizzles Irresistible aromas will entice visitors to the Cooking Stage for demonstrations by some of the region’s top chefs all three days of the Women’s Fair. Executive Chef John Michael, chair of the Culinary Arts program at Butler Community College, will start off the weekend with a cooking show at 2 p.m. Friday. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Michael was a sommelier and manager for PB&J Restaurant Group, which owns YaYa’s Eurobistro and Newport Grill, for two years before joining BCC’s Hospitality and Culinary Arts program in 2012. Attendees will be treated to fun and informative wine tasting on blended wines at 5:30 p.m. Friday presented by Good Life Guy Bower, host of “The Good Life” radio program on KNSS 1330AM. Joe Parten, Carrabba’s Italian Grill chef, will demonstrate “Four Authentic Italian Sauces from Alfredo to Pomodoro” at 6:30 p.m. during Girl’s Night Out on Friday evening. Michelle Kaiser, owner-baker of Alotta Brownies who has baked for movie stars in New York and whose bakery has been honored as one of Nebraska’s best, will demonstrate how to transform an ordinary brownie mix into Chocolate Orange Truffles and other unique brownie gourmet treats at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. In a presentation at noon on Saturday titled “Slow Cooker Success” and sponsored by Natural Grocers, Krista Sanderson of Eat Real America will show how to use the slow cooker to create healthy meals. She will also show how to turn a variety of vegetables into noodles and make them appeal to even the pickiest of eaters during “Taking Vegetables to Another Level” at noon on Sunday. Paul Freimuth, executive chef at the Hyatt Regency in Wichita and former executive sous chef at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City, will present “Three Great Things You Can Do with Cauliflower” at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Sponsored by All Paws Pet Center, the show will feature doggie models from Hands of Hope Rescue, an organization dedicated to helping save dogs’ lives in Kansas and surrounding states. KFDI’s Carol Hughes, popular midday on-air personality, will be the show’s celebrity host and provide commentary on the dogs and their attire as well as their backgrounds and personalities.
