Fall 2014 - Habitat for Humanity | Lake of the Ozarks

Support Habitat and
help a family realize
the dream of
home ownership!
Doug Horman on behalf of Ann Walker who was under the weather, greeted the
volunteers and guests to the annual shrimp boil appreciation dinner. Volunteers
who have served tirelessly working on homes along with partner families. Volunteers in every need of service, who have provided endless hours of support in seeking contributions through our Groundbreakers
Program and our Corporate Sponsors. Volunteer
efforts in our ReStore, which is our lifeline. Volunteering in any capacity is sharing the real
meaning of our mission statement: to provided
affordable shelter. Almost all of our contributions are contributed directly into the homes we
build. Also, we are proud to have assisted Habitat International in providing homes for 48, and
soon to be 49 families through our tithes.
Doug shared the podium with a man who did not
need an introduction; Marvin Johnson. Marvin
has been involved with LOTO Habitat for
Humanity since 1996 as a charter member.
Through his efforts our affiliate has been
guided and shaped into the successful chapter it is today. He has done every job from
administration to “Chief Cook of the
Shrimp Boil”. Without volunteers like
Marvin, whose heart and soul is in this
organization, it wouldn’t be successful.
After 18 years of service, Marvin is ready
to retire and spend more time traveling with
his wife and playing golf. He was honored
and presented with a plaque for his many
years of service and gift certificates for
dinner and golf shopping. He will be missed.
Lake of the Ozarks Habitat for
Humanity is a 501(c)(3) notfor-profit organization. The
entire amount of your gift is
tax-deductible. Some people
have generously donated property for the homes while others
have contributed building materials and supplies, as well as
financial contributions. See
information on insert page.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THIS PROJECT
x Paint Brush
* Drop cloth
x Stir Stick (unless spray paint)
x Plastic bowl or cup
*Paint (latex or spray)
x An old rag (for a drip) *Water
x Fine grit sanding sponge/paper
Rough up the surface with the sanding sponge and then
paint. If you have a large enough surface to spray, go for it.
If you want a little more “Shabby Chic”, when it is good
and dry, sand lightly over any raised areas. That’s it. You
could do this with any item of “used furniture”. A great reason to visit “ReStore”.
A little paint on a used furniture item adds a great piece of
Shabby Chic flair to any room.
Just a reminder, Christmas is just around the corner. We
have small items that make a great holiday gift with just a
bit of sprucing up.
If you have created something special from a ReStore item,
take a picture and drop it off or email it to ksecretary1@yahoo to be put in our next newsletter. The ReStore is
located at 308 Keystone Industrial Park Drive, just three
miles So of the square in Camdenton. The store sells all
manner of donated items generating revenue to purchase
materials used to construct homes. Check out our new website or “like” us on Facebook. We are open Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday, from 9AM-1PM. Check for store times
during holidays. Call 317.0470
….is an ongoing program for our Habitat Partner Families
to strive to maintain and improve the curb appeal of their
homes. Each month, April thru December, reviews of
participating homes are graded for neatness, maintenance of
lawns, bushes, and planting beds. The family is awarded a
Home Depot $25.00 gift card along with a Yard of the
Month sign posted in their yard. Each month a newsletter
announcing the winner along with helpful and timely
gardening tips is sent to the families.
Into its fifth year now, it pleases me to see that our families
are taking pride in home ownership and that curb appeal is
important to them and their neighborhood.
Recognition to the following this year as of this printing:
May – Randa Ginsky: foundation plants & beautiful lawn
June – Randa Ginsky for maintaining lawn, potted plants
& front porch décor.
July – Fate and Julie Johns for maintaining lawn, bushes
trimmed & a neat row of flowers including tomatoes.
August – Don and Stacy Archer for a neat yard, beautiful
flowers & landscaping.
September – Jennifer Simmerly for keeping a neat lawn
& front porch.
October and November will be judged based on tasteful
fall decor and December based on Christmas décor..

“sweat equity” hours, the family enters into a noninterest mortgage with Habitat for Humanity for
terms agreed upon. Call our office for information

has grown to include 55
stores located throughout Missouri and Illinois. The company headquarters is located at Edwardsville,
IL. The stores in this area are located at Camdenton (Greenview), Osage Beach, Eldon and Lebanon. The
Camdenton, Lebanon and Eldon locations were purchased from Herman Lumber in May 2013. R.P. Lumber is
a full service lumber yard which sells all new construction materials including windows, doors, drywall,
shingles, decking, etc. The company also offers kitchen design and is able to assist with nearly any construction project from start to finish.
Chris Hatcher is the manager of the Camdenton store and has worked with R.P. Lumber for 8 years. He
previously worked at the Troy, MO and Osage Beach locations prior to working at Camdenton. Steve Fuhrer
who attended our Appreciation Dinner, works with R.P. Lumber as an outside
sales representative and is the company’s primary contact with the local
Habitat chapter. Steve has been involved with assisting Habitat for 5 years.
R.P. Lumber has been very generous over the years assisting Habitat by
providing building materials at discounted prices. The company has also
donated materials to Habitat and some of these materials have been sold at the
ReStore. Steve has also personally assisted the Habitat construction crew
in setting trusses on homes built for partner families. Steve commented
how much he enjoyed their relationship with the Habitat
construction crew.
Habitat is very fortunate to have wonderful corporate sponsors
like R.P. Lumber who share the vision to provide decent and
affordable housing to families who could not afford it by
conventional means.

Habitat for Humanity HOUSE #15
and help yourself!
Habitat is looking for those ink jet (small),
toner cartridges (large), cell phones and MP3
players for recycling. You may drop them off at the
ReStore during open hours, call 573-317-0470 and
someone would be happy to make arrangements for
a pick-up. We make money and you help
save the planet in the process! Tell your
friends!
Stoecklein Family
Lake of the Ozarks Habitat for Humanity (HFH) held the
ground breaking for house #15 on 17 May 2014. This 30
day late start was due to the need to get a lot boundary
adjustment approved by the City Planning and Zoning
Commission. The house is being built for Chris and
Amanda Stoecklein and their three children, Alexis,
August and Isabella. It is the fourth and probably the last
house we will build on Mulberry Lane in Camdenton.
The house is as energy efficient
as possible with 2x6 exterior
walls, blown insulation, energy
efficient appliances and CFL
light bulbs. At the time of this
writing the Stoeckleins have
almost completed their 250
hours of “sweat equity”. The
house should be completed and
ready for occupancy by the middle of November. Since HFH is
“the bank”, the family will
receive a no-interest mortgage for
a fixed period of time. Habitat
also escrows taxes and insurance.
The mortgage payments go into a
revolving HFH account to support
the construction of future homes.
