PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Greetings,
Welcome to the January edition of the Red Hawk Report. We are in full swing of things after
the winter break as we close out one semester and get ready for another. On January 11th,
I meet with all the families of the incoming 9th graders - it is very hard to believe that we will
have the class of 2020 entering the building soon!

Those of you who have been following the updates of the district reviewing the facility needs
of the building know that the Board of Education is considering going to referendum to
address current educational programming needs at the High School. While we are unsure
of what a possible referendum may include - we wanted to start to share with the community
first-hand what the facility needs are at the high school.

Starting on Tuesday, January 12th, we will be holding weekly tours of the building. Tours
will run from 10:00 - 11:00 am and 6:00 - 7:00 pm. I, along with MHS administration and
staff, as well as District Administration will be leading the tours. We will look at several parts
of the current programming at MHS, along with some of the challenges we face with current
facilities. There will be a question and answer session included at the end of the tour.
I strongly encourage you to consider going on one of the tours, and if possible to come to
the morning session. This will allow you to see how the building looks with students in the
building, as it gives a much better representation of how the building is being used.
Tours run on Tuesdays from January 12 through February 16th. Please contact School
District of Milton Communications Director, Jerry Schuetz at 608-868-9222 or via e-mail

Seniors
Seniors who are college bound should be completing their applications. Transcripts can be requested through
Parchment. Parchment is a secure transcript delivery service. The Parchment link can be found on the high
school web page. Seniors should also make sure their ACT scores have been sent to the college or if the college
accepts copies of the ACT report, they can request a copy be sent from the counseling office.
College Goal Sunday is a nationwide event that assists thousands of high school seniors and their families in
completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the essential first step to receiving financial aid
and going to college. College Goal Sunday will be held at Hedberg Library in Janesville on Saturday, February
20th at 10:00a.m. If you are unable to attend, you may visit the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.ed.gov for answers to
your questions and information regarding the FAFSA application.
Juniors
Juniors should be in the process of getting a clearer vision of their post high school plans whether they are going
straight to work, joining the military, or going on to further their education through technical college or other
college/university. ALL juniors will be taking the ACT test at Milton High School on March 1st. There will be a
brief ACT prep class offered at Milton High School on February 22 and 23 from 6:30-9:00pm for $89.99. If space
permits this same class is being offered at Craig High School on February 13 th from 9:00am-3:00pm. Watch for an
email in January regarding this class.
Sophomores
Each member of the class of 2018 will be asked to schedule a Individual Planning Conference with their parents/
guardians and counselor during the school day. The Individual Planning Conference (IPC) assists students in
planning, monitoring and managing their academic, career, and personal/social development by connecting the
student, parent and school. Topics covered will be:
Transcript Review
Graduation Requirements
Course Selections
Academic and Career Plans
The focus of the IPC is to strengthen communication between students, parents and school counselors; explore
academic and career options; and gain insight into students; personal/social growth. It will be very important for
planning the last two years of high school. Meetings, lasting 35-40 minutes, will be scheduled from mid-March to
May. The counseling department will send a letter in second semester to arrange a date and time for each
student. We look forward to meeting with the Class of 2018 and their parents in Individual Planning Conferences.
Freshmen
Our 9th graders now are close to completing one full semester and moving into the second. Hopefully their
grades will reflect their true ability. It is important for them to remember that a good start is important.
Counselors are finishing up their individual meetings with the freshmen. This meeting gives the students a
chance to ask questions and get to know their counselor.
