Crappie Masters
The final national qualifier for the 2015 regular season took place on Saturday, August, 22 on
Truman Lake. Richard Bowling, local guide, stated this was the toughest fishing conditions for
crappie he had ever seen on Truman. However, 149 anglers from thirteen different states
traveled to Clinton, MO and battled the tough conditions and as always, someone has to figure
them out and be crowned Champions. Truman Lake One Pole Ultimate Challenge Winners, Barry Morrow and Chad Maupin, posted
an impressive 8.83 pounds on a seven crappie limit to take home their second win in 2015. The
team stated the bite was slow and patience was the key. Morrow and Maupin were one pole jig
fishing and concentrating on submerged natural lake structure catching their crappie in 7-9 foot
of water, just off the bottom. They were using a combination of Bobby Garland, Mid South, and
Beaver Bottom black and chartreuse jigs. Barry and Chad are sponsored by Crappie Town,
Stump Jumper, Off Shore Tackle, Beaver Bottom Baits, Perotti Rod holders, Gideon Hooks, and
Huckabee Rods. They took home checks totaling $7045.00, which included a $250.00 bonus,
donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, for using E10
gasoline in their boat.
The Ozark Rod Team of David Cox and Steve Hockett finished in second place with 8.63
pounds. Cox and Hockett were
one pole fishing submerged structure with black/chartreuse and orange/chartreuse jigs tipped
with minnows from a Ranger boat equipped with Humminbird Electronics and a Minn Kota

Trolling Motor. They were catching their crappie in 10-12 foot of water, 6-8 foot deep. Cox and
Hockett are sponsored by Ozark Rods and Anglers Port Marine and took home $2000.00.
Richard Bowling and Garry Lee weighed in seven live crappie at 8.36 pounds and finished in
the third place position. Also fishing from a Ranger boat with a Minn Kota Trolling Motor, the
team was fishing in 10-15 foot of water with most crappie being caught at eight foot deep on
straight minnows. Bowling and Lee are sponsored by Huckabee Rods and received a check for
$1300.00. Big Fish of the tournament was weighed in by the Power Pole Team of Charlie and Travis
Bunting at 1.94 pounds which was good for $1050.00
Top finishing Adult/Youth Team went to George Ryberg and Cameron Wright with 7.28 pounds.
They won a $100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card and a $100.00 Everharts gift card.
Top finishing Male/Female Team went to Jeff Faulkenberry and Natasha Goucher with six
crappie weighing 5.75 pounds. They won a $100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card. 2/4
